  • The Mäusebunker opened in 1981 as the Central Animal Laboratory for the Free University of Berlin, which is a nice way of saying they raised lab animals here -- and then experimented on them. It's now owned by the Charite hospital and was the home of experimental medicine until the building's unique construction led to impractical maintenance costs. They built a new place in Berlin-Buch and were going to tear this down until fans of brutalist architecture intervened. What do you think of the place?
I film everything these days on my Google Pixel 4a and edit the video using Bytedance's Capcut because it still amazes me that we can do all this on a phone. I'm fatandysindustries on TikTok and drewportnoy on Twitter.

Reminds me of that sky scraper in New York with no windows. This style of architecture is what I pictured the Ministry buildings would look like when I was reading 1984.

Looks like an SCP facility or similarly post-apocalyptic / dystopian sci-fi type structure.

Nice video ❤ When were you there last? I read that it's closed off to the public. Is it possible to get near the building and take photos? Thanks

You can't get inside but you can walk around it. You may have to climb over a small fence here or there but you can go right up to it. It's menacing.
