You know that there was a problem with some of the first tech material Nylon jerseys in the 1990's being so slick that players could not get a grip, not the older nylon with holes in them style. These were some designs of these that specific players in some positions preferred if the brand the team wore for that season, had them as they were slicker then most normal jerseys.
This needs to be in madden if they ever decide to make a decent game…like you can break more tackles, but every time you lose a jersey you have to sit out a play
I guess I wasn't paying much attention to the NFL, or Greg Pruitt at least, in those days. I remember college teams, especially ones that ran the Wishbone, wearing tearaways, but not the NFL.
Full circle to todays shrink wrap can't hold the Jersey no how. Add to that no hold shoulder pads. The rules changes cause those. Oh yeah and the bare arm pit look. Pruitt may have complained but he gained lots more yards with those jerseys and we the fans loved that. Bring them back!
Players had to leave the game until they replaced it with a different jersey.it wasn't as often as the video makes it seem. Maybe once , twice a game all together
I kept hearing this strange sound when the jersey would tear, then I figured out that this must be the sound fabric makes when it rips, but surely it cannot be heard over the football game. Then I realized that the editor added it in the future. Thanks for doing this, I was unaware of the sound fabric makes when it rips but thanks to your dedication, I now know. Keep up the good work and I look forward to discovering what other sounds things make in the future.
Do one on astroturf, now and then?I either read or heard someone say, can’t remember, that AstroTurf of the 70s,80s etc was like playing on asphalt,in fact ,u could paint the street green, and play football!
It was awful and hugely responsible for major knee injuries. Players cleats would stick in the turf and it wouldn't give when they changed directions. #1 factor when getting rid of it. Lots of studies about the injuries caused by Astroturf. And yes, super hard. Hard as a rock and you would be all scraped up. Like playing on concrete.
Jersey's got ripped very seldom. Just like stick em was used seldomly but a video about it would OF COURSE show it. Sounds like some think jerseys were ripped every play & RB stats were padded cuz of it.
Could you imagine how many yards Barry Sanders would have had with a tear away jersey AND being drafted by the Green Bay Packers like he should have been?
The game they showed with Joe Washington occurred right after the Colts had acquired him from San Diego. Baltimore has been shut out by a combined score of 80 to nothing and it’s first two games as injuries and hold outs and reduce the roster of the three time defending AFC East champ. The Colts were so bad that Howard Cosell apologized about the matchup before the game began. Then Joe Washington ran wild.
Joe Washington was one of my favorite players. My best friend's dad played for the Baltimore Colts and I got a chance to meet him. First active NFL player I had ever met! He signed a football card I had, and that I still have. This was right before he was traded to the Redskins.
Without really thinking it through, I think they should bring this back (safety reasons) but when it rips its the end of the play (for fairness to the defense). Sure it might cost more but still
How these were even allowed blows my mind, especially the 'old heads' that HATE change. These Era runners need an asterisk cuz the extra bs yards they could gain.
This puts alot of older running highlights in perspective now.
Fr tho I never thought about how much easier it is to tackle a guy by his jersey
Maybe but then you get taken out almost every other possession so you don't get as many touches
@@bigpharmasports9120 I meant all the runs with dudes jerseys getting ripped to shreds. It all just makes sense now.
Jeez Greg Pruitt doesnt look like hes 70 years old. He looks like he's in his 50's. Good for him
yeah, I thought he was my dad's age in his 50's
Word The O.G found that Fountain nd Drinketh from it...
He speaks Well nd clear.
Im with That. God Bless Him.
You’re right. He looks like he in good shape for his age. Probably took care of his body during and after football. 💯
If you are a linebacker who goes to hell, eternity is spent trying to tackle Barry Sanders wearing a tear away jersey.
Word. I was thinking the same thing
If you’re a football fan that goes to Hell you’ll spend eternity watching games with tear away pants.
Jesus, either him John riggins or Larry csonka
Lol, yeah, because you’re not getting either one
Yep you're on your own 20 and everytime he scores you have to run two full field suicides
Greg Pruitt looks like he might still be able to pick up a few yards.
the fabric tearing sound effect really made a difference lol
One of the reasons the uniforms are much tighter/fitted in today's game plus micro/closer knitting makes it stronger.looks way better as well.
I think they’re fitted way too tight. I don’t care how many have no sleeves.
I think they’re fitted way too tight. I don’t care how many have no sleeves.
That is a beautiful tear sound ngl haha
Thanks NFL Films for doing a piece centering on the great but forgotten Greg Pruitt!
NFL films is amazing
Bring it back! Looks like football although when I first seen I was like wait a minute
Player Safety
I remember hearing about this growing up. I had the sleeveless,armpit-less jaws shirt. That shirt was fresh af. Lol
Brings a tear to your shirt
I think every D-lineman should get to wear them and Linebackers. That would cut out a lot of O-line holding.
Being a lineman is an art, and holding happens every play

1:27 Had no idea the guy could write Diary of a Wimpy Kid AND play football! Some people really can do it all
lol
I was a kid back then but I remember those jerseys. I played middle school ball with that type of jersey. Lol
Tear away jerseys like if they were hulk hogan ripping those apart
These are the videos I like from this channel.
That and the jugs, and 100 years series.
Im tired of seeing jerseys stretch 5 yards and people running in and stopping big plays, bring em back
Damn Greg looks great for 70.
I miss those days.
Went to college with GP Sr’s son. Pru Jr strongly resembles his father physically but ran violently like Earl.
Ah the good ole days of the tear aways.
This needs to be in madden if they ever decide to make a decent game…like you can break more tackles, but every time you lose a jersey you have to sit out a play
I never knew about these… super interesting
I guess I wasn't paying much attention to the NFL, or Greg Pruitt at least, in those days. I remember college teams, especially ones that ran the Wishbone, wearing tearaways, but not the NFL.
Imagine those today with the Patty Cake rule book.
Seems like Derrick Henry wears a tear away jersey! No one can stop that beast
I remember it well. I thought it was strange then and it was strange.
Did the clock stop if a player needed to replace his jersey?? What if it tore when the game was under 2 mins?
Players had to leave the game until they replaced it with a different jersey.it wasn't as often as the video makes it seem. Maybe once , twice a game all together
No, the clock didn't stop.
i've never seen this guy, only read about him in books

I liked the added sound effect... made me laugh
Do one on astroturf, now and then?I either read or heard someone say, can’t remember, that AstroTurf of the 70s,80s etc was like playing on asphalt,in fact ,u could paint the street green, and play football!
True story. Yes, original Astroturf was nothing but plastic grass carpet laid over concrete.
What if the tear away piece was just a panel in the "horse collar" area?
This would put a stop to horse collar tackling
Jersey's got ripped very seldom. Just like stick em was used seldomly but a video about it would OF COURSE show it. Sounds like some think jerseys were ripped every play & RB stats were padded cuz of it.
@Fries totally agree w/you. Sure was a good highlight, especially in slo-mo.
Are the cut-off short jerseys in college football banned now also? Thanks. 🏈
they looked gay so just ask Gruden what he has to say about them..
6:19
@@korrasmuscles Thanks, but I'm referring to cut off (short) jerseys, not tear-away jerseys.
Barry Sanders would have went through a million of these shirts.
The Cleveland browns has always had a strong running game
Darn right.
@Fries Mack to Metcalf. Mack to Chubb.
Imagine if the bottoms were tear away 🤣🤣🤣
A lot more happier women in the stadium and watching from home lol.. the fan base would increase
Such a gay question
Could you imagine how many yards Barry Sanders would have had with tearaway jerseys
Could you imagine how many yards Barry Sanders would have had with a tear away jersey AND being drafted by the Green Bay Packers like he should have been?
Man the defense had it hard ever since then
I had no idea UT were the first to use them. 🤘🏼
Ah yes, and DKR came from what school? Oh yeah, OU 🙂don’t forget to thank a Sooner!
And knowing is half the battle
1:29 isnt that guy an author of a book series
This needs to make a comeback, tackling someone by the jersey is soft.
Thank God, I never played with tear away jersey’s
Tear away jerseys in the NFL is the equivalent of using razors in the WWE. Why? It was extra, not needed, and fans loved it.
Some many little things have shaped American Football.
That’s kinda cool why lie
I miss the days of tear aways.
Joe Washington RIP he not long ago passed away I wanna say he passed earlier this year.
The game they showed with Joe Washington occurred right after the Colts had acquired him from San Diego. I bet rbs who did the best were the ones who would be good in flag football
I thought they looked better in college than in the pros.
Holding
glad we've evolved from this
Cool
First time I hear about this.
Without really thinking it through, I think they should bring this back (safety reasons) but when it rips its the end of the play (for fairness to the defense). Sure it might cost more but still
Seems like he left defenses in tatters!
How these were even allowed blows my mind, especially the 'old heads' that HATE change. These Era runners need an asterisk cuz the extra bs yards they could gain.
What? No tear away pants?
Not first
A clinic a poor tackling 🤔
2017 nba jerseys lol
8th... Probably. Lol
Terrible Foley work
Litteral battle damage.
First
You were second sir
No one cares if you were first or not
My fav RUclips video right now no lie ruclips.net/video/cvs9q-RAg64/видео.html
