    I really enjoy watching your videos, I'm from central Minnesota on the prairie. We raise crops and cattle here, our hobby is fresh water fishing on out lakes. We also have our ice fish houses for the winter! Favorite catches are Walleye, Crappie, and Sunfish. I really enjoy the diversity of catch you guys go after and the scenic places you are fishing. One of my bucket list trips is two weeks in Alaska to do some exploring and fishing.

    How do you keep from catching Rockfish instead of cod?

    • @EISAlaska
      @EISAlaska  Год назад

      It all depends on where you fish. Rockfish tend to stick around hard bottom and rocky edges. Cod like sand and gravel especially this time of year for spawning.

    Pops getting snippy and he should. Shouldn't get to the point when you have to pull bait now and get in the way of a pull. Tristen needs to be careful walking around with that knife. Seen a guy doing the same and slipped, darn near killed himself and ended the day of fishing due to emergency. He actually even had a bobble around 35:49. He needs to know when there are 3 squidy left not when your at the last one. I'm sorry as I'm sure you don't need to hear it from the likes of me but it's all about efficiency
    Pops kept slamming line full of cows, my lord 25:25

    I notice a lot more "skips" between fish on your jig lines fishing cod vs catching rockfish. I see that you are supplementing jigs with bait so may be attributed to bait loss or school mass. Just wondering if you've noticed certain color jig skirt producing better than others cod fishing? I always had best luck using peanut butter brown colors fishing for cod or rockfish in days I commercially fished.

    What's the average weight of the Cod's you're catching? What's the deciding factor before moving to different lacation? To avoid overfishing in a particular location or lack of biting? When you bleed the Cod I see you putting a knife in the gill location but don't see if you sever the neck?

    I've always been surprised that you guys fish Cod out of such a small boat. I would have thought that the big C/P Longliners would come down and suck up all the quota, to say nothing of the trawlers. Is it because you guys sell direct to consumer that you can compete with those cooperate boats or is there some sort of regulatory protection in the gulf that doesn't exist in the Bering Sea?

    • @EISAlaska
      @EISAlaska  Год назад +1

      @benosick8542 Hi. The gulf of Alaska cod quota is split between federal and state fisheries. The state gets 25% of the gulf TAC and it is split between jig and pot gear in the Kodiak area.
