this movie is perfect, like literally every aspect of it is pure perfection.
It really is. I'm so glad I decided to see this movie, knowing that I've never been a fan of musicals. The big difference I see here is that people don't just break out into song in the middle of a conversation like most musicals. That's what always irritated me in the past. La La Land didn't do it that way which really allowed me to enjoy the dialogue as well as the music. LaLaLand is a masterpiece.

The Audition scene is beautiful and it made me fall in love with the film. Whiplash is still my favorite of the two though.
What I love about the audition scene is how it contrasts the rest of the movie. La La Land is famous for its beautiful visuals and its use of color theory (like it was discussed in this video) yet when you get to the audition scene, which is arguably the climax of the film, all you see is Mia singing against a black background. No extravagant outfit, no choreography, just Mia standing there singing her heart out. It shifts the focus from what you see to what you hear, which is Mia singing about her lifelong dream and its origin. The encapsulation of La La Land's message. This really is the rare movie that the more you dive in and watch it and study it, the better it gets. La La Land is as close to a perfect film as it gets in my opinion
Very cool ! I also find the movie very impressive, but cannot stop thinking about Les Demoiselles de Rochefort whenever I see it. If you haven't seen this Demy's masterpiece yet, jump on it, it's purely splendid :)
