We had a same experience few years ago. We got out passports at 3.45 pm & the third passport we got at 3.59 pm a minute before the office closes & we could catch our flight.
ok so your passport was through VFS global, that's a global company for passport and visa services. Ideally there's not much in the hand's vfs as it just such a carrier. Well, don't the back ground. but, however wondering how come was the ticket booked without a passport in hand. I do know US based flight ticket bookings are done in very advance (which is part of planning) and also due to the ticket prices being high. However, still it's a pain monetary and in general..

My suggestion is that do not make video when you face your personal difficulties. Because in such situation you are in different mind set. Video making should be in pleasure moods always. It is quite natural that when you are in difficult situation you face difficulties in making videos. Most of the people in Pune know what Pune is. U should hv dropped the passport at Mumbai US passport office and picked up the passport from Mumbai itself...incase of doing it from Pune bcoz that takes additional time n delays...
