Out of all the hula drill videos, yours is my favorite! Your explanations are amazingly helpful, thorough, and super encouraging. I’m seriously breaking a sweat - Thank you for your incredible videos!
Aloha and mahalo for your great videos. I was just wondering why you always wear a long pareo, (you look quite cool, actually, don't get me wrong) maybe it's a little difficult for the students to understand they have to bend their knees, as It doesn't come naturally to them. I have a question regarding the religious aspect of hula: I have seen the Hawaiian teachers starting the class with a prayer to the akua, ancestors, ... Is it possible to isolate the hula from the native religion and ignore the kapus?
Totally understand. Mahalo for your comment. when I teach each step separately I always hold the pareo up so you can see my feet. As for the Kapu part of hula. Thats a very difficult question to answer. Hula does not exist without the base teachings that are imbedded in our culture. So to try and answer your question simply, no, hula cannot be isolated from the practices that are in its core. If so it will no longer be Hula. But just something that may mimic what hula actually is. Mahalo nui for your comment
