    The only even slightly interesting part of this game is the quite clever scrolling routine on the Speccy version that scrolls alternate lines on each frame giving an illusion that it's smoother than it really is. Just about the only element with any attention to detail that I can detect!

    I was already in my early teens in 1989 and yet I never knew until tonight that Red Heat got a computer game, probably because it wasn't released on MS-DOS or on consoles.

    For Amiga games, I wonder if anyone has ever thought about/implemented something in an emulator to make two instances of the same game run at the same time so you can have both sound effects and music. Seems like it wouldn't be *too* hard given how powerful modern PCs are.

    It's a misfortune to learn that this game was one of the worst Joffa Smith has ever designed. This guy made remarkable games for the ZX Spectrum, such as Green Beret, Cobra, or Firefly, my favorite. This is a case of somebody who hadn't had the same inspiration while transitioning from 8 to 16-bits. I don't know if he was responsible for the 8-bit converts, but the original Amiga and Atari ST ones are, definitely, abismal!

    I remember fishing the amiga budget re-release out of a bargain bin in Future Zone as a kid. What a terrible game. Only entertainment was chuckling at that talking John Belushi head :D
    Why on earth did Ocean always create a bunch of mini-games to stick to the plot of a movie, rather than just make a platform game, like what console versions were doing? And one level was always either that bloody sliding puzzle thing, or a rip off of Mastermind.
    I don't think it was until The Addams Family movie game that Ocean finally twigged on the concept. and even then they went back to mini game nonsense with Their Untouchables port.

    IMO - Amiga, More colour in static screens and better colour in game due to larger palette than the ST. ZX Spectrum version has better sound (in 128k version, not shown) because it uses the beeper as a drum track where the CPC version can't. ZX version is smoother scrolling but has weird scrolling bug, but the addition of basic colour in the CPC looks nicer. C64 is ass

  • @loganjorgensen
    @loganjorgensen 2 месяца назад +1

    I think the concept was good but the execution is poor, like a worse Cinemaware game heh. Ben-Hur was super wide like that but it was a rarity, they're clearly taking the easy route of very little height raster. With a 4:3 screen I've found 16:10 to be the best balance of crop and height resolution for widescreen.
    Much like window cropping the SFX-Only or Music-Only setup was a disappointing standard from C64 that should have died off in the transition to the Amiga. Nice to see some homebrew for C64 & Amiga proving it was BS.😉
    Lol the rock crushing stage, in the movie it was more an endurance of heat/pain since his cover story was that of a forge worker. I do like the film strips and name placard in the C64 since it fills the crop more purposefully. I'm surprised how bad the ZX port came out, they're usually less of looker but tend to play well. CPC getting the typical lazy ZX port, sad since visually it can surpass C64 in the right hands.

      Probably because in the movie one of the Russian mobsters is undercover as a nurse.

    At least the movie was mildly entertaining and had Gina Gershon...

      I watched it on Amazon Prime before making this video but sadly couldn't understand half of it because we only have two choices. Japanese dub (never in a million years) or Japanese sub. Problem with that is all the Russian sections are subbed in Japanese, Not English. Bummer.

      @@RetroCore He, he Japanese dub does sound a bit surreal. Sometimes it can be hilarious if you understand the language (remember seeing bits of Knight Rider in German) but it's usually not an improvement.
      Though the movie isn't a classic and a bit underdeveloped in spots: it doesn't always make a whole lot of sense. But Arnie is in good form and apparently he did learn to speak Russian for the movie too!

    It seems to me the developers was doing plenty of "cocainum". What a terrible game!

    What were the devs on to think this was playable? Cocainum? 🦵
