Please try this: Carbonation is all about getting the Co2 to absorb into the water. When you quickly "fizz" the water you do not give it enough time to absorb. And when you let the machine "buzz" it wastes tons of Co2 and the refills are not cheap. What you need to do is give it two to three quick pumps and give the whole ordeal a good shake, let it sit for 5 minutes fizz it and shake it again. In my experience the fizz then lasts weeks in bottles and hours even days in open cups. Thanks and the best of luck!
Bubbles form more easily on rough surfaces than smooth ones. If you have a pan with tiny scratches on its inside bottom, try putting it on a burner with some water in it. Just as it starts to show signs of boiling, you'll notice the first bubbles form along those scratch marks. These areas are called 'cavitation sites'. An ice cube dropped into a sparkling beverage generates bubbles NOT because of its temperature, but because its surface roughness provides more cavitation sites.
The solubility of CO2 in water is inversely proportional to temperature. Go figure. Short sharp squirts when carbonating (rather than the long slow ones you used) with a small pause between each will work better. Get your flavouring ready measured out prior to carbonating - less time with the top off the bottle to preserve carbonation.
Pouring your soda on top of ice will remove the carbonation almost right away.. Why do you think it fizzed up that much? You even commented on it. It's like you have no common sense. Wow. You even comment on how "it's still in the big bottle". Can you not connect the dots?
+TheMrVengeance - And damn, it's amazing how quickly you forget instructions. You literally read them: "Push short bursts UNTIL you hear a loud buzz, THEN three loud buzzes give AVERAGE fizz." What you say *immediately* after you finish reading that. "Okay, so it says press the button three times, press it down until you hear a buzz." Like. How even.. what? Ugh.
YOU SHOULD DO BRITA WATER AND ZERO WATER. a lot of people don't like to drink out of the tap, so I think if we know which filter works, then we know which one is healthier.
It works better if you use short bursts. I usually push the button at least 3 times BEFORE it starts to buzz. Then buzz it 3-5 times. It will last in the refrigerator for at least a week. Maybe longer, I drink mine to fast to tell. It is a great product, though, a bit expensive for the units themselves (80 bucks (average) for their low end model is too much imho)
lovingorca Ok. I'm not trying to argue with you... however, that's not how the directions say to do it and that's not how I've been enjoying my SodaStream for over 6 years now. You use repeated short bursts until you hear the loud buzz. Then you buzz it 3-5 times, depending on desired fizz level. The loud buzz is a relief valve that works based on pressure. So unless you use short bursts, you are simply filling the bottle with gas, you will not be agitating the water enough to achieve total infusion and it will go flat on you very quickly, provided it even takes a fizz at all.
To answer your question - if someone hadn't already - regarding the cold water: CO2 is more soluble in cold water. That's also one of the reasons soda goes flat, because the drink warms up. I would be much more inclined to spend my money on a good whipping syphon. It does the exact same thing but is simply more versatile. You also can't screw it up with the button pushes because you simply screw in CO2 cartridges.
I got a Soda Stream as a gift a few months ago and it is my holy grail kitchen beverage gadget. I fill a large pitcher with tap water and put it in the fridge so I always have cold water. Mine has lights that show how much carbonation I am putting in. I definitely did NOT get it right on the first try It took me several tries to be able to make it exactly how I like it. When I am trying something out I give it several tries before I give up on it on account of possible user error. I say give it another shot with some different flavors. Like others have said, sometimes it reacts differently with different types of flavor.
jack, the colder the water the better it will stay and also you should leave the bottle sit for about a min. or so then take it off the machine... love the review.. ill check it out my self. i have a different brand that does the same thing and love it.. i hate taking back bottles every week and this saves me the trip..
I have the SodaStream and I have no problem with my soda keeping it's fizz. Not saying you did it wrong though, just stating mine didn't lose it's fizz that quickly.
hey Jack the reason you need to chill the water is because it helps the carbonation "absorb" better. The closer you can get it to freezing without it actually freezing the better. I know this because I actually made a homemade version of the soda stream and had to do quite a bit of experimenting to get carbonation right.
Thank you for making the effort, but I'm afraid there a few tweaks needed. I've been using my SodaStream for nearly 3 years and love it. It saves me lots of money too with the addition of the "Soda Mod" adaptor which allows me to use & refill paint ball tanks...MUCH cheaper. What I do is push the gas button 'til I hear a buzz - then release the pressure and push again 'til I hear another buzz. For a taste close to Coca-Cola, I do 6 buzzes. I did have to experiment a little bit 'til I got a taste I was happy with, but that's because I'm a Coke-A-Holic. :)
I have one, and the carbonation does expire quicker than retail sodas. But they sell smaller bottles as an accessory, and these maintain the fizz much better. You also finish one quicker when it's smaller. This is closer to what you would get from a restaurant soda.
I did. how about watching the video before criticizing. I used COLD WATER FROM THE FRIDGE. It's at 39 degrees. Don't tell me I didn't use cold enough water.
the reviewer only put two pre-pumps and one "loud sound pump" -- if he wants fizz, he should put THREE LOUD SOUND PUMPS for super carbonation that will last over 24 hours in the fridge, i like TWO LOUD SOUND PUMPS for average fizz.
You hated on this product for no reason. One, the 'loud buzzes' aren't every time you push down the button. It's when you actually hear the 'bizzzz'. You only did three buzzes. Second, the coldness of the water doesn't matter at all. It just makes your soda colder or not. The Soda Stream works, you just were misunderstood when it came to the directions.
I love mine!.. The reason the fizz goes away so fast is that you aren't supposed to leave the lid off while you measuring out the syrup. What you need to do is have everything ready already BEFORE you start carbonating the water. Also don't leave the lid off. All your carbo is escaping out the bottle. Try it again if you've not taken it back yet.
Really like your videos jack but I think this video needs a redo. Try the newer machine too. Also read the tips from the people in the comments. I have a soda stream and it deffinately keeps the fizz a long time. You gotta press down the button a few times and then when you hear the loud buzz you push it 3 more times. And I persinally dont like to add ice to any soda even from the store because it waters it down and looses fizz fast that way. Also using cold water helps.
+WeKnowTheTruth2012 She is 100% correct actually. Cold water helps the carbonation process and ice removes carbonation because of the bubble formations (which it why it foams up when added to ice)
He wants them to fail so he can return them. He was so sure the bottle lost its fizz but clearly it didn't. You pour the soda into ice and not even down the side like a normal person does
I had one years ago and thought it worked fine but had a hard time getting the Co2 refills so I too returned it. I'm sure they are easier to get now. Maybe I should look into it again?
"THE FIZZ GOES AWAY RIGHT AWAY" "OHH GOD, ITS MADE OF PLASTIC" "WOW SCREWING THIS IN IS HARD" "I NEED TO ADD WATER? WTF" These complaints are a bit silly, don't you think?
Your kid was funny when he goes ( you keep the glass, i will take the bottle)haha. And you can do up to 7 pumps. But please read the instructions because it was clear that you didn't read them. "I guess this goes in here...."
oh come on man you're such a damn cheapskate you were just looking for a reason to take that back to the store and btw I've had mine for years and it doesn't lose it fizz that quick and the soda stream is great for kids because you don't have to use the syrups you can just use cordial but come on you should have kept the soda stream for your son at least he likes it, just because you don't like it you don't have to send it back keep it for your kid instead of teasing him like that.
Sunshine4695 Why would i attack you thats your opinion my opinion is different then yours and i think he's teasing his kid if you watch the video again keep an eye on that kids face.
The Magical World of Elley I thank God I ain't got a kid. Also, the son wanted it at first but after they both tested it they both agreed the carbonation didn't last long. I bet his son won't even mind that the product would be gone.
We've had the Soda Stream for almost two years now and we still love it. It doesn't have to be ice water to start with, just as cold as the water from the tap gets. One thing we noticed is that the flavor is different depending on the water you use. Tap tastes different from bottled.
The instructions were "Push short bursts UNTIL you hear a loud buzz, THEN three loud buzzes give AVERAGE fizz." so you way under fizzed it. And then you poured the partly fizzy drink over way to much ice which as you noticed caused all the carbonation to come out... Like it does for any drink. Do a review with common sense next time please. Or buy the version that auto carbonates it to preset levels since you don't understand clear instructions.
i have one of these and i actually have the same model but in white and it turns out great and i love Dr Pete flavoring. i also found that if you use tap water and then refrigerate it that it turns out great also once you run out of Co2 you can usually take your empty canister with you to the supermarket they will take 50% off of a new full canister. i also typically find if you do around 6 loud buzz noises from the machine the carbonation will stay in the bottle for a good couple of hours.
Worst review ever, sorry but 1. You can use tap water 2. Why didnt you fill bottle chill then fizz 3. You fizzed it wrong, you push button until it buzzes release pressure then push button. If you are going to review a product use it correctly . Review needs to be redone .
I noticed the darker colored sodas, like the Natural cane sugar coke, tend to taste a little flatter than some of their other flavors like the orange. You need to push the button quite a few more times than you did. I LOVE my sodastream - just got it a few days ago and been using it every few hours. So far I've tried the Cherry Coke, Orange, Energy Drink and Natural Cola flavor. I absolutely love the orange and the natural cola. The cherry one is great as well but the cherry flavor didn't come out as much as I'd like so I have some cherry juice concentrate that I add in addition to the Cherry Cola syrup. Makes a delightful drink.
do you pour warm soda over the ice? or cold soda over the ice? Because regularly cold soda on ice usually loses it's fizzyness quicker than if you just poured a cold soda without ice into a glass
Just for anyone whose wondering I've thought about buying one of these but each refill ranges from 15-30 dollars for a Co2 and the machines overpriced. Its a lot easier to buy a tank of Co2, soda syrup, Mr carbonater a ball lock hose, all only for around $50-70 dollars. It carbonates about 4x as much as an average soda fountain also a 1 gallon bag of syrup can make thousands of cups. The last thing i have to say is you can bring your Co2 tank to a paintball or fire extinguisher place and refill for as low as 10 dollars, you wont have to refill but once a year or two it last a very very long time.
The 'heavy luggage' selling point is that one have to buy and carry home 1 bottle of soda syrup and carbonation gas, compared to 60 liters/15.85 gallons of regular soda.
The one thing that hooked me on this product is that it stay's fizzy way longer then pop in a can. You had it in a glass full of melting ice, that's what killed the fizz. Although I put mine in ice all the time and never have a problem,
If you read the manual you will see that it says to but the gas bottle in from under the base and also the measures are on the cap have a look on it, also fill the bottles and keep them cold in your fridge you don't need any extra things.
I have that model and I've had it for quit a while. I bought it to make the Sparkling Water my way and add my own flavoring. such as lemon juice and a little stevia or lemon and lime juices and stevia. yum yum. and healthier too.
+WeKnowTheTruth2012 But then again you probably wouldn't be used to drinking tons of sugar all the time so you probably wouldn't mind. Also judging from this one comment, there is quite a chance you would be a lot healthier, too.
my husband and I drink it from the bottle and it keeps it carbonated for a couple of day. We love our soda stream. Just trying to get use to how much flavor we like in ours.
I've just watched your review of the Soda Stream. I've been using mine for over 4 years & love it. I've never had it lose "fizz" in such a short time. When I've added the syrup I've had to pour it VERY slowly to kee it from spewing all over. I love your recipes AND your reviews. Thanks for all your good shows! Wanda B. A fan from Portland, OR.
I wouldn't say the product is worth buying. My sister got one for Christmas a few years past. I don't think you got to the loud buzz, we did it like you did the first time and thought the buzzes we heard were the loud ones but if you keep pressing in short bursts there will be a really loud one that will scare the crap out of you. The fizz stays a lot better like that. *However* the mixes don't taste enough like the real thing because of the splenda rather than real sugar. I guess if your family is used to that flavor it would be fine. If you found a mix that was closer to the actual thing and wait for the big buzz it would be a really good product.
Note that fizz leaves faster with ice in it. Ice melts and the concentration of co2 in the liquid get's smaller. Might try it again without ice. As well: The fizz leaves faster with an open container. You could've kept a fresh made bottle closed and go back at it an hour ago. You could see how the bottle still had quite a lot of fizz in it compared to the glass with ice.
Ï have a Sodastream my self, and yes the soda does loose its fizz fast, but the club soda is much better to keep it. It may be the sugar in the flavor?
If you use it properly it is a fantastic machine. I love it and use it every day. It keeps its fizz for a day or until I finish it. Thank goodness I didn't watch your review before buying mine. I would have missed out on an amazing healthy addition to my lifestyle.
I have one of these and they work very well, putting in the flavour will cause it to lose some fizz so Sodastream said in an interview to put more pumps into it especially for dark coloured flavours
I had one of these, I returned it a few days later, it was fizzless. I would make up 2-3 bottles at a time and take one each day and by the end of the first day nothing had any fizz left. As far as the cold water problem, put the water in the bottle and then put it in the fridge.
not sure what kind of soda you buy but when i open a asoda it doesnt stay carbinated for an hour or two it says crabinated for ike 3o minutes at most but still i will agree it didnt stay carbinated as long
I use the cold water out of the water cooler and you can get the 1 litre/quart bottle under the nozzle. And it isn't as heavy as he pretends, the CO2 tank is the heaviest thing in the box. We love ours.
I have a soda stream, you dont need really cold water, i just use water from the tap. You can always just put the bottle in the fridge after carbonating it
Cold water helps with the carbonation, in fact, the colder the fizzier it will be. I've found that rolling it instead of shaking it does a better job, and does not lose carbonation as fast. Also doubling the pump of CO2 also helps. Based on the original instructions, yes, it's a fail, however you do need to experiment with how many till it doesn't lose carbonation is what is needed.
Sorry, Jack. Something's not right. We've been using Soda Stream for about a year now - never had anything go flat. You can always create your own syrups as well - which can be fun. We love this product.
it is because you mix it with ice also you do three pumps when it buzzes so it will buzz three times I have one and the fizz stays in it for almost a week so ya it is a good product
Wait a minute...a scientist never tests anything only once before drawing a conclusion. I noticed you technically did under-carbonate it. I just ordered mine though.
I got this machine today, and tried it with some sugar/coffeine free cola, and i gotta say it's really really close :) I liked it. It stayed carbonated pretty long too, like 30 min, i didn't have ice tho. used 4 press, tho my machine is pretty different. :) Worked for me at first try and I really liked it ^^
It's the ice, you should of rinsed it in cold water first...simply put since the ice came straight from fridge it's surface cancelled all the carbonation once you poured in the mix. This happens to any professionally produce product too if the ice is frosty and dry on the outside too.
but u also mixed it with ice which watered it down. regular soda won't stay fizzy with ice try it one more time without ice in glass and try it with ice on glass with regular Dr Pepper.
one thing more; for all of you claiming how bad his review style is, he's not doing it like a professional and following the directions, he's doing it like YOU do it at home, and ignoring the directions.
I think your supposed to pump it three times and THEN when you hear it buzz loudly you do it 3 or more times depending on how fizzy you like. Just trying to help:)
One note. A glass full of ice will make any soda go flat. This product is not made to make a soda and store it. This is why it says use VERY cold water. The soda will be ice cold when you make it and then you drink it. The fizz will not last all day because it is not carbonated as much as a coke or pepsi from a store.
Want it to stay Carbonated I fill them from my Filtered Tap, not to Cold.. Then I inject it with CO2, then I refrig over night then when I go to use it I hit it again with another shot of Co2 and then flavor... Mine is never flat.. HOWEVER the more Filtered the water the better the outcome.
The reason that the water has to be cold is because gasses are more soluable in cold water than they are in warm water (Solids work the opposite btw). So warm water will lose it's carbonation much faster than cold water. The same goes for pre-made soda: it will go flat faster if you leave it out of the fridge.
Works great for me, every infomercial and sometimes directions exaggerates their product a bit, just add a couple extra pumps of co2, is it that hard ?
The SodaStream home system is equivalent to a soda fountain at a convenience store. Its the same principle. They have a syrup mix that blends with the water and a co2 tank that bubbles the water. Which is why the Mentos Diet Cola reaction is far smaller than on a factory made soda.
Its kinda like he wanted it to fail so he could get his 80 bucks back.
I had to get cold water....I had to pour it into a measuring cup.....and then I had to pour it in.
That carbonation bottle is now full of whine.
are you freaking serious...
Ice + soda = dead carbonation dude
Please try this: Carbonation is all about getting the Co2 to absorb into the water. When you quickly "fizz" the water you do not give it enough time to absorb. And when you let the machine "buzz" it wastes tons of Co2 and the refills are not cheap. What you need to do is give it two to three quick pumps and give the whole ordeal a good shake, let it sit for 5 minutes fizz it and shake it again. I still don't know how he has a show. Someone must be funding him.

3. You fizzed it wrong, you push button until it buzzes release pressure then push button.
If you are going to review a product use it correctly .
Review needs to be redone .
1) If you don't understand why the water has to be cold, ask your highschool chemistry teacher to explain.
You were supposed to push it three times (AFTER) the buzz not before
i have one i never use it but i can tell you the co2 tank lasts! had mine sitting for over a year the co2 tank was still up AND WORKING!
You failed at making a review on an awesome product. js
If you make a big bottle of soda and do not drink it fast is it okay to re carbonate the bottle again after the soda already mixed in?
Sodastream is mostly produced in the illegaly occupied west bank.
Boycott sodastream :)
Another tip: besides not using lots of ice, tilt the glass to the side so the soda pours slowly and doesnt smack on the glass
This con artist wanted a free unit but soda stream company did not agree hence the "review".. Isn't this obvious?
I have that model and I've had it for quit a while. I bought it to make the Sparkling Water my way and add my own flavoring. such as lemon juice and a little stevia or lemon and lime juices and stevia. yum yum. and healthier too.
Yea healthier and such and I wish I could get dr pepper with it but anything I taste from it tastes like the Normal variant of the drink
ew no if you were my mom id be mad
+WeKnowTheTruth2012 But then again you probably wouldn't be used to drinking tons of sugar all the time so you probably wouldn't mind. Also judging from this one comment, there is quite a chance you would be a lot healthier, too.
my water is 39 degrees from the spout
Maybe the carbonation would have lasted longer without adding ice cubes.
my husband and I drink it from the bottle and it keeps it carbonated for a couple of day.
Wanda B. A fan from Portland, OR.
thank you so much
I wouldn't say the product is worth buying.

The newer soda streams are a lot better
there pointless it's a lot cheap if you just mixed soda water with the flavouring
I would have missed out on an amazing healthy addition to my lifestyle.
lol when Jack junior just took the bottle 😂😂
maybe I will. You never know
I have one of these and they work very well, putting in the flavour will cause it to lose some fizz so Sodastream said in an interview to put more pumps into it especially for dark coloured flavours
Notice how when I shake the big bottle and set it on the table, the fizz goes away so fast. It drops faster then normal soda would.
I love when you say come in close. its a fuzzy feeling
You are supposed to press it in SHORTER presses. Also don't only press it 3 times, you have to press it until you hear three BUZZES. (:
6:54 boy was that awkward to watch
it is because you mix it with ice also you do three pumps when it buzzes so it will buzz three times I have one and the fizz stays in it for almost a week so ya it is a good product
Wait a minute...a scientist never tests anything only once before drawing a conclusion. I noticed you technically did under-carbonate it. I just ordered mine though.
reason for cold water...as temperature decreases, solubility increases, resulting in superior carbonation
Keep a pitcher of water in the refrigerator for this, or have several of the bottles in the frige , waiting to be carbonated.
one thing more; for all of you claiming how bad his review style is, he's not doing it like a professional and following the directions, he's doing it like YOU do it at home, and ignoring the directions.
"It's basicaly sugar water now." Every soda is basicaly sugar water.
Hey where did you get your knife magnet rack in the background? I haven't been able to find a god one.
It's said short presses until you hear 3 buzzes, and you only got to 2 buzzes
I think your supposed to pump it three times and THEN when you hear it buzz loudly you do it 3 or more times depending on how fizzy you like. Just trying to help:)
I like how the dry erase board just says "Xbox One will force you to register every game online." hahahaha.
Works great for me, every infomercial and sometimes directions exaggerates their product a bit, just add a couple extra pumps of co2, is it that hard ?
is it me or did i just noticed that it says that xbox 1 will force you to register games online or something like that?
I've had my soda stream for years now, and it's never disappoint me.
The SodaStream home system is equivalent to a soda fountain at a convenience store. Its the same principle. They have a syrup mix that blends with the water and a co2 tank that bubbles the water. Which is why the Mentos Diet Cola reaction is far smaller than on a factory made soda.
