It’s absolutely ridiculous words like “died” or “dead” have started being seen as things that needs to be censored.
I believe even longer. Can't remember where, but heard some time ago that FCC enforced a law at some point in the '70s that you weren't allowed to say those words or any related ones. Wether or not that's true, it's died down a bit now (pun not intended), but only on public TV. RUclips was supposed to be a freespace alt to that, but now it's swapped, it's WORSE than public TV! Might as well rebrand as "VidTube" or smth because "Broadcast Yourself" ain't shit

well yeah, the entire point is to avoid recommendation algorithm issues. if you talk about death, our god known as "the algorithm" gets very mad at you and doesn't recommend your video to people.

They think that by getting rid of the tools required to make those threats, they will get rid of the threats themselves. I mean, it's not that simple afaik. No one knows how the algorithms work, so it's actually people doing modern divination, trying to both find out what the algorithm wants and do it. People censor themselves with things that are 99% not actually important, just to be on the safe side. It's super weird, cause it's starting to look like religious rituals at this point.
So it's more that this is what happens when people's income depends on unexplained rules and no one knows what they did wrong.

The reality is unless your unbreathing/disappearance case is extraordinarily strange, you won't end up in a Netflix show, or a book. Heck, even those are being made into hour long RUclips essays
Well, it's often (not always) used in less serious cases. Specifically though, I don't think I know of any youtuber who would actually use that phrase to refer to someone who *actually* died (and they'd probably get called out hard if they did). Well, maybe in some historical context where they're mentioning a random figure's death incidentally and there's a less serious tone to the video, but certainly not in something like this!
I haven't heard "they've met their maker" since like the 2000s. Used to be a common quote in children's TV shows.

Unaliving takes away the impact and meaning of a tragic event. It's insensitive and awful.
I have begun to think censoring gore takes away the impact of tragedy. Everything feels like an imaginary story. I never was interested in watching things like cartels or ISIS killing people, but when I find that footage has been removed, its like it never happened.
It's also cowardly. I always dislike any video that opts for using it. It's okay if some topics get age-restriced in lieu of overthetop censorship

I've heard people say "sewer slide" instead of suicide, in totally serious contexts, and it's actually made me kind of angry.
@@NavarroRefugee I haven't heard of this one yet, and yeah I hope I won't in the future either. Personally I prefer unalive over sewer slide. I think that was the original point too: an alternate way to say someone took their own life, but avoiding using idioms because those are harder to understand for people for whom English isn't their first language. As long as that's what it's used for, rather than a general term for the end of life, I'm okay with it.

To be fair, when commentators use dumb euphemisms like "unalive", "self-delete", "minecrafted in CSGO" etc, it draws attention to how patronizing and restrictive youtube's guidelines have become, and many intentionally so. If they used actual literary euphemisms like the ones You Carry, then the language would flow and we wouldn't notice what's being taken away.

As though it's heinous for someone to want money for making hours of content, and anyone making entertainment should do it just out of kindness (or that it being on RUclips inherently makes it lesser.)
Yet for some reason I'm hearing the sentiment more and more - longing for the good old days, when things were "better."
I do not wish to insult you personally, but I'd encourage you not to join the bandwagon. There are many obnoxious RUclipsrs gaming the system, and making the process of video creation a soulless machine - but there are countless creators I've seen make amazing, serious documentaries, and get age restricted and just killed in the algorithm. I've seen people working for years on amazing creative projects, and barely getting more than a few thousand views a video.
We should not pretend that RUclipsrs are the problem. Encouraging this kind of sentiment will only harm content creators we enjoy, and in the end result in us getting less good content.

I was alived in a snowy cabin in Colorado in April of 1986. My parental unit (she/her) was nearly unalived during the event, but emergency responders were able to successfully re-alive her before the situation became double plus ungood.

It’s worse because it’s now a widespread word made specifically because by RUclips putting useless monetization restrictions, and by extension, advertisers not willing to advertise on something that isn’t entirely scrubbed clean of anything negative. American capitalism is changing how the internet handles this sort of thing permanently, arguably for the worse.

Censorship and making normal word "taboo" is only making people softer
"Unalive" just feels disrespectful when talking about someone who actually died. The word "killed" being a demonetization factor isn't an excuse either, because as displayed here, there are a billion different phrases and metaphors to describe it better.
