    God those old tape cameras always produce smooth framerate videos. Digital stuff just looks weird...

    Damn that looks beautiful. I work with a lot of analog camcorders too. SVHS always looks nice . I'm going to look into your camcorder. I noticed you did a bit of color grading too towards the darks. Regardless, superb!!!
    Do you mind giving more info about this camcorder? I'm searching online and can't find much about the NV-MS2...

      Hi, thanks for the comment. You're right, there's very little info online about this camcorder. From what I can gather, it came out about 1991. Apart from being SVHS, It's got the standard features of Panasonic camcorders of the time, the usual date/time display, 1/500 & 1/1000 high speed shutter modes, outdoor/indoor/auto white balance settings. It also has a colour phase adjustment knob going from red to yellow. It's got a 10x zoom lens 8-80mm with macro mode which is more than a lot of the other camcorders they were doing had (mainly 6x and 8x). Auto and manual iris and focus modes and gain up setting for low light situations. The sound is mono on the linear tracks so while the video quality is very good, the audio leaves a bit to be desired. The CCD sensor is quoted on the side of the camera as having 420,000 picture elements.
      It's a really nice camcorder to use and feels very well made. One of my favourites in my collection.

      @@nowt1002 what do you mean by 'mono on the linear tracks' and what are linear tracks anyway

    • @nowt1002
      @nowt1002  4 года назад +1

      @@dingdongbell8984 there are two methods of recording audio on VHS tape. Linear is the original one which is basically the same as on a standard audio cassette. Hi-fi is the other method. Hifi was developed later and uses a technique whereby the audio is recorder on the same tracks as the video. The hifi method improves the audio quality because the head to tape speed is greatly increased due to the helical scanning action of the head drum. This camcorder however only has the linear audio. The audio quality is OK but not hi-fi quality

    I really like the shots…the shot composition have a unique feel to them… you have a great eye…..I am also planning to shoot a shot film with the 80s vibe to it….I would like to use this or a similar camera…to give it that 80s vibe… but the film festivals ask for a HD screener….can you suggest a solution for that please…how do I get the tech specs right for festivals….

    • @nowt1002

      If the specs just relate to the actual file that you give them then you could resize the video to the size required. You would need to deinterlace it first. This video shows how to do a good quality deinterlace.
      ruclips.net/video/C4PyyQoz6eo/видео.html
      That is the method I use when deinterlacing my footage for RUclips. It will give you a 50 or 59.94fps video so you would have to check whether the frame rate is acceptable.
      I also resize it. If it need to be 1920x1080 you could resize to 1440x1080 and add black borders. This can also be done in the avisynth script using addbordes().

    How do you get the colors so nice? A lot of vhs footage I see is very gray

    • @nowt1002
      @nowt1002  4 года назад +1

      It's just a matter of setting the saturation correctly when capturing the video to pc. The colours look like that when viewed on a crt so it's just a matter of trying to get it more or less the same when digitising it.

    What capture device and software did you use.

      FaZe Quiet Hi. I used an ATI all in wonder card and virtualdub for the capture and avisynth for the deinterlacing and upscaling

      Go check platforms like eBay, people usually still sell them (used although)

    • @nowt1002
      @nowt1002  6 лет назад +1

      As kaibamte says you can usually get them off ebay. You need a motherboard with an agp slot though and I think the drivers only go up to Windows xp (although for most agp equipped pcs this would be about right). I've got an old pc that I just use for video capture. If you check out the website digitalfaq there is a lot of information about these types of cards and capturing in general. Thats where I got most of my info from

      Hey nowt100, i read that you use Avisynth for deinterlacing and upsacling. Unfortunately, i am a total newbie to this coding-thing, i never really worked with software without GUI. Is it possible to get your avisynth script for those purposes? Your processing with the program seems flawless, and i would really like to get to that point. Are those scripts transferable? Or are there any good tutorials on this subject?
