Here I present a series of photographs of the historic town of Kostroma, one of the Golden Ring towns of Russia. Kostroma is located at the confluence of the Volga and Kostroma Rivers and was first mentioned in the chronicles for the year 1213. Some historians believe that the town was actually founded by Yuri Dolguruky, a century earlier in 1152....
The centre of the town with the stone built colonnade market, the FIre Tower have not changed since they were constructed. When these photographs were taken many of monasteries and churches were closed and used for other purposes. The magnificent Ipatiev Monastery dating from the 16th and 17th centuries was also forcibly closed after the Revolution of 1917 and became part of the historical and architectural preservation of Kostroma.

Just in the middle of the 70s I was in Kostroma ... Now I looked and remembered: the shopping arcade, the Ipatievsky Monastery right on the bank of the Volga, where we were brought on a boat ... In the monastery there is a museum of wooden architecture in the open air ... And In another building there was a unique, ancient collection of butterflies from around the world! I remember this lovely town from my trip back in the 1990s. The Ipatievsky Monastery is beautiful and I remember the shopping arcade and Fire Tower very well, also walking along the embankment to the waiting River Boat..... The wonderful 17th century wooden church was destroyed by fire in 2002. Hugs and kisses! Nigel

ДМБ 1969~71г. Ездил на Волге по новому мосту.
дмб 87-88 при нас второй мост построили открыли через костромку на импатевский монастырь
когда мы посадим деревья и уничтожим позорную рекламную грязь, город станет прекрасным вновь.
И что изменилось?
