  • "Hang with them, guys, hang with them. That's all right; that's all right," a fan said as the chorus walked off the field.
A San Diego-area gay men's chorus was supposed to sing the national anthem at the Padres game Saturday - but that's not exactly what happened.
"Whose broad stripes and bright stars, through the perilous fight ... " the chorus sang during a previous performance.
Instead, with all the men lined up and ready to go on the field, a prerecorded track featuring a female voice started playing - and it kept playing for the entirety of the anthem. The chorus called the moment "a nightmare."
"We just kind of stood there, and we thought, 'Maybe they'll now reset it and play our music.' That never happened. We just stood there. ... One person yelled, 'You sound like a girl.' Somebody else yelled, 'That's the best you've ever sounded,'" SDGMC Executive Director Bob Lehman told KSWB.
The Padres publicly apologized after the game, releasing a short statement.
But the chorus said the two-sentence statement wasn't enough and that it didn't "appropriately address the gravity of the situation."
On Sunday, the Padres released another statement. The team said an investigation found there was "no evidence of malicious intent" from anyone involved, but "based both on the unintentional mistake that was made, as well as the failure to immediately intervene and correct the situation," the team has cut ties with the third-party contractor responsible and has disciplined another Padres employee.
The chorus has performed at Petco Park twice before Saturday's game, both times without incident. The chorus was there on Saturday as a part of the Padres' Pride Night, an event aimed at celebrating San Diego's diverse community.

Its the Padres who are embarrassed, the choir should not be embarrassed or feel humiliated.

I can only assume that whomever is responsible for this thinks that morality is set by the teachings in the Bible where it's encouraged to be cruel towards people with good intentions. Yet another prime example of how religion poisons everything.

the bible doesn't encourage people to be cruel. Jesus said to love your neighbor as yourself. people who are cruel do not follow bible principles.

A great many people accept the Bible as God's word where on many times God condemns the practice of homosexuallity.

There is a statement from the leader of the choir (Bob Lehman) that they were having a dispute with the Padres in the days leading up to Saturday's game because the Padres were requiring any choir members to buy tickets. He is quoted on ESPN stating: "Three days before the game, San Diego Padres representatives aggressively sought to prevent singers from performing the National Anthem, unless they purchased a ticket to the game..."
He is already using language that somehow the Padres were trying to discriminate against them for not giving them free tickets. My stance on the tickets is if you are going to sing the Anthem, I think it is reasonable to think you would be comped a seat. To accuse the Padres of "aggressively seeking" to somehow wrong this group shows it is nothing but another axe grinding exercise by a self-defined group of people that has to bring attention to itself by claiming a hate crime anytime anything doesn't go their way.
Anyway, this is just an example that theme nights at the ballyard shouldn't be agenda based, so there shouldn't be any "I'm proud I'm a homosexual night" or "I'm proud I'm a heterosexual night" or an "I'm proud I'm caucasian night" or "I'm proud I'm African American night" or anything else of that nature. "Bark at the Park", "Bobble-Head Night", "May the 4th Be With You" and other things are fine because they aren't agenda based and don't end up with publicity-minded agendas finding a place to look for the next way to be insulted so they go garner more media attention for themselves.

If I was honored with singing the national anthem, I would beg, buy, borrow or steal a ticket so I could watch that game! It's similar to singing at weddings and funerals. You don't bellow out your song and exit immediately!

... and there's the rub. "Straight" "White" "Christians". All entities that if they classified themselves as "special" and had a night for themselves at a ballgame or asked for special protection under the law by classifying themselves, it would be considered discriminatory against others who weren't part of their group. It has happened in the past and is an outrage. Now, there are those out there who wish to classify themselves based on gender-identity that claim they require special consideration under the law.
The Constitution of this country is there to work against groups being able to identify themselves by race, religion or gender to get special accommodation under the law in comparison to others when it comes to public resources or opportunities. Most groups today try to claim they are fighting the same fight against oppression as Women's Suffrage or the Civil Rights Movement.
Actually, they are acting with the same motivation and strategies as those who had custody of that law and used it to oppress women and minorities. Women and minorities didn't classify themselves, a bunch of those unduly privileged by race and gender to serve in legislative positions classified them and then limited their participation. Since the United States is European in its founding, white males were the culprits here back when the Constitution was fighting against the momentum of European traditions when it came to its philosophies being implemented through law.
Women's Suffrage and the Civil Rights Movement sought to remove women and minorities from being classified so they could participate in the same opportunities as any other person in this country. The Constitution doesn't fundamentally protect classes, it means to protect all of society from specific individuals seeking advantage or special recognition under the Law by claiming a unique identity in comparison to other citizens in the public forum.
The strategies now are to claim oneself as a "protected class" and then manipulate the law for special bias under the guise it protects them from discrimination. In actuality it works to discriminate against anyone who doesn't identify with that class.
Anyway, I know some baseball teams have a "Family Night" or maybe a "Christian" or "Catholic Night", so if they want to have an "LBGT Night", so be it. MLB teams are not public institutions like a public school, so if they wish to pander to different groups for marketing purposes, no big deal. The kicker in this story is the same old garbage where something doesn't go the way of the group highlighted and they instantly start ranting about it being an act of hatred or intolerance so everyone walks on eggshells in fear they will be painted with a scarlet letter for being a bigot or worse. The tactics of any group claiming a hate crime or worse everytime they perceive a slight in their direction is revolting.
In this case, I suspect a glitch either happened where the mic wasn't working or somebody was irritated that they were being accused of being a homophobe for not handing out free tickets to those singing the National Anthem and decided to turn off the mic and play a tape. I know where I'm from, people volunteer and stand in line to audition for the opportunity to be chosen to sing the Anthen. If they are chosen, many have it filmed so they can send it out as part of a portfolio, so I think there is advantage to those that do it it from a professional standpoint, so it may not be rare for those singing the Anthem to buy a ticket.
As it is, this is not even close to being an act of violence or blood curdling hatred and to try and even insinuate that it is reveals the true intentions of those claiming they have been wronged. That intention is basically to get everyone to genuflect and relent in the face of their harsh public accusations so they can continue on to the next claim of victimization to advance their desire for public recognition and special consideration.
Anyway, that is the end of my tome, this was the first time I ever posted anything on RUclips, I usually have more self-respect, but figured I would share my tremendous wealth of wisdom with others. Enjoy!
