So true. He’s made so many interceptions these season which have led to a goal. Also on Sunday, with Gravenberch on 4 yellows, he was the one snapping into tackles so Gravenberch didn’t have to. It wouldn’t surprise me if that was a tactic by Slot before the game.
The biggest difference is the attacking creativity through the middle.. Klopps team ONLY created down the flanks. The GOALS AND ASSISTS of Klopps midfield was practically non existent. All they did was win the ball and pass the ball from one wing to the other.. Which is why they ran out of ideas when facing a low block. This team has creativity through the middle and the flanks. Big risk. He is barely getting into the Salzburg side so that is a massive jump to the Prem. I am a big fan of Stefan, but he really needs to be playing regularly and playing really well to make a recall a credible option.
@ yeah, I saw an article earlier where some journalist was writing about Morton seeking a transfer in Jan because of lack if game time. That may well be true but the article also said that Liverpool would agree to it because he was clearly not at the level needed evidenced by ‘struggles in the Southampton’ - I thought that was bullshit. He played well, and Skot went out if his way to say he had beeno impressed - especially considering he had to play RB in second half
Funnily enough this first evolution is almost exactly what Slot did in pre-season when he didn't have any strikers. We played with two wingers and two 10's. I'm honestly not that worried about cover for Gravenberch. Endo is not as good on the ball, but he's a solid professional and exactly what we need from a back-up. And we learned last season that Macca can be fine at that position as long as there are enough legs around him.
What i love from us is match appreciation. For example Luis or Jota and even Darwin will drop to leave defenders the decision to track or stay. When they track then Mac or Sobzs or Curtis will make a run beyond, when they dont we play in front draw them on then get it wide. Game management from this team is exceptional and Slot's little tweaks at half time have been pretty much spot on.
Running lines, the way of pressing, adapting the game plan to the opponent's weakness, plan A-B-C-D, building up from the back, passing through the lines, etc etc...
Just get Bajcetic back after this season. That's been my position after Zubimendi rejected us and Gravenberch showed out in his first 3 games. I'd rather not pay 50+ million on a DM who might not play as much as long as Grav is there, who is still only in his early 20s.
Morton and Bajcetic with possibly McConnell will ensure our squad back up’s are strong enough next season. Also this season it always appears we have a min of 6 players facing ball every time we lose the ball. 4 defenders and 2 6s.
Another thing. WHY on earth has everyone just assumed that because Fabinho left, that we needed a 6 and Slot would play with a 6... and now that Gravenberch is playing, people just think he's playing a traditional 6 role.. but he ISN'T! He ends up in the RW position sometimes man😂 don't see Fabinho or Rodri doing that. Our system now, doesn't even have a 6! A 4-3-3 does NOT always mean a 6 is used. Slot very clearly uses 2 centre mids and a more attacking midfielder who roams, pulls defenders around and runs from deep. This is EXACTLY why Endo doesn't play. Endo is a 6. At Feyenoord, he done it with Wieffer and Timber with Stengs in the Szobo/Jones role. At Liverpool, he clearly has Macca and Grav centre mid. There isn't a 6! I'm honestly baffled how wrongly everyone is analysing this🤔 Is it just that people thought we need a Fabinho replacement? Remember lads, we aren't playing Klopps system anymore😂.
Happy New Year Redmentv! Thanks for the content in 2024! Josh, totally with you on the Bajcetic comments, and what you said about needing a player who can fill both the lower and upper 6 roles. We are at such a high level right now that we need the very best player for him to have a chance of getting into the team. Be interesting to see what midfielder you think can play both the lower and upper 6 position.
You are completely accurate Josh on the Deep dive. I have actually missed this football analysis on Liverpool squad. And we have really evolved from the time kicked off and you can actually see and sense the style of play from Slot ball. Liverpool squad under Klopp, relied on the fullbacks to cross the balls to Firmino, Mane and Salah. Thus, they produced wonders and incredible records as the mentality monsters. Also, our midfield never left their position unless for one player as Henderson and Fabinho. Those two players carried Liverpool fc for almost 5 seasons and until their legs went away. Consequently, we needed to evolve to something else as Klopp 2.0. And we did and right now the emergence of Jones, Morton, Elliot, McConnell and the likes of Danns have really improved immensely. Kelleher has really had a huge impact of the squad and looking to bench Allison on the number 1 goalkeeper in the squad. Also, with Endo, Gravenbach and MacAllister have impressed on their season debut. We are still going strong and pushing for the Epl,Carabao and F.A cup 🔥🔥🔥👌🏾
The deep runs from mids, the 9 dropping deeper, and the mid playing the 10 actually venturing furthest fwd. ALL are positional movement actions that open up space to operate for the two wide fwds. Bobby used to create most of this space ALL BY HIMSELF ! That is how good his movement and game IQ was. We are now doing it in a more collective , integrated, total football manner. But the result in terms of who is intended to either score or generate the big chance action is the same. It’s a wide fwd based attack
I actually disagree with Josh here. I don't think the way we attack in the final 3rd this season has been kept the same. Last season our main source of creativity, was our fullbacks. The final ball or assist in the final 3rd was heavily reliant on Trent and Robbo, and the midfields main job was to accommodate them by covering. That's why Klopp loved runners, workhorses, like Hendo, Milner and Gini. That's exactly why Szoboszlai's form fell off a cliff, because he took a naturally talented attacking midfielder and tried to turn him into a young Hendo. He stripped him of the licence to create and make his brilliant runs in behind, with the main focus being shifted to covering the fullbacks every single attack. We all watched it happen in real time. First few games he played with freedom and expression. Few weeks later when he learned the system, Klopp had him surprising his natural talent in favour of covering Trent. In the final third, I think we're totally different now. For a start, 1 of our 3 midfielders is completely free to roam all around the attack and make runs in behind. Last season, the midfield were never free to do that. It was always the front 3, plus the 2 fullbacks with the midfield not really involved. Now, with the fullbacks playing more conservatively and controlled, they're more compact and we attack far more through, and with the midfield. So our attacks consist more of the front 3 and Szobo/Jones, rather than the front 3 and 1 of the fullbacks. Szobo or Jones are WAY more involved, and used to pull defenders out of position to open up space for Salah and Cody. Recently it's changed even more with Diaz dropping from cf and Szobo or Jones making almost number 9 type runs! So yeah, I dont think it's the same at all in the final 3rd. (Deep runs, as you both spoke about, are now the main way we attack and create more space.. which is why Salah is scoring more.)
when we bought Nunez I was certain we are trying to move away from the idea of a Firmino type player and that whole system, that we are trying to evolve in a different way, but in the end we never did, it always looked like we just want another Firmino there, we cant play with a natural striker, we want a player up there who can run around and do all sorts of tasks, just play ball, not being a chance magnet and look for service from teammates just focusing on being the main danger for the opposition, it just baffles me how we came to that conclusion, not only did we spend big on somebody we dont actually want but we hurt the guy's carrier, its proper shambles
It’s what’s making us so successful right now, the amount of players we have who are willing to make deep runs, and eight or nine out of ten times you make that run, you won’t receive the ball, but you’ll create space for someone who will! Slott saying that, has let us into his secret really! Just watch how many of our players make them runs, it’s a mind blowing amount really!
You don’t think rival clubs have the resources to analyse our game 😂 the difference between teams are players and the managers in game management ability…
Hi, DenRob here.Love the deep dive evolution. Regarding Gravenberch replacement, I think Curtis Jones could play his position if Gravenberch got injured.
They don't run themselves into the ground, he has a plan B, C, D and then some, players are playing to their strengths rather than having to fit rigidly into the system and players like Jones and Sobo are benefiting massively, he's more player savvy, look at the change in Grav who's the best DM in the league right now.
stefan was best player on the field in red when he broke into the team. we need to get him back in the fold with the 1st team to see where he is before we can talk about if he is good enough. how he is playing rn with the players he has around him is not giving him the best light to shine in, to say the least.
I’m more comfortable than the beginning of the season with regards to the 6. Macca will be dropped into Grav’s role if needed with jones moving into Macca’s 8 role. Baj will be a back up for next season if endo leaves. Doubt the club will buy a whole new player when we’ve got 6/7 first team midfielders
How would you know Slot doesn’t like Endo ? . Slot is starting to use Endo in rotations now . Sure he doesn’t have the same skill sets as Gravenberch but Endo is a different type of DM and I can see that Endo has changed his play a bit by going more further forward . What does it tell me ? Slot is molding Endo to suit his play style and Endo is adapting to it. We need an extra body in our squad but it should be a CB signing due to Gomez’s injury . We have a lot of midfielders already
Josh went from "I like to think I say it as I see it" when talking about Nunez to fumbling around his point and holding something back when talking about Bajetic. I'd like to hear the full honest opinion.
Don’t be silly of course we still need a zubimendi. Gravenberch is the player you’re talking about that can also play the second deepest midfield role. Lots of stuff that gravenberch does well is things 8s do eg turning in the ball and charging forward. We don’t have a conductor and having one will take this team to another level. Giving us total flexibility in the middle of the park.
Been thinking about this for a while now, it's, let's say interesting that although Slot wasn't near our first choice he got the job. Yeah Salah's improvement this season has been amazing, but he has ALWAYS been streaky. If he goes 10 games with 3-4 goals I hope we don't start freaking out like always saying we're finished.

I don't understand the skepticism around bajcetic... he can play a 6 and can rotate gravenberch albeit with a different skillset. Bajcetic is not the kind of player you let go because you think you have a winning way of play and what a cooker cutter player. At some point some coach will find immunity against this slot system. If Trent wants to go he can go and I think he will go , so be players leaving and coming , Liverpool always staying, let's be honest here he's average Defender. I believe we deserve better RB, and we will get one. So I rather keep VVD and Salah than Trent
One last thing.... this idea that we need a "conductor" is just blatantly WRONG. We're the best team in world football right now, how could a conductor possibly make it better? Again, Slot has NEVER played with a conductor😂 he plays 2 midfielders and an attacking mid! For christ sake what are people on🤷♂️😂.

Be warned! Slot's teams always play better 2nd half of the competition..
Edwards won’t sign another 6 they will bring back young Stefan Bejectic easy solution no need to splash cash!!
