New devs in high school or college complain about building a portfolio, as a new dad with a full time job looking to change careers, i wish i had that kind of time to build an amazing portfolio

Would you recommend against using a Template to build a Blog? I'm focused on Front-End, and learning a server-side framework like Next.js in addition to making more complex projects using React/Vue will significantly increase the study work load. Thanks.

You can use use a template for the look for sure. If you want to build it from scratch, then go for it.

I started applying to jobs while working on my bug tracker project after hearing your advice. Got an offer for my first dev job after I got finished with the back end and set up authentication. Didn't even get the front end finished.

It might have been back then but today, all I hear is you need to have a great portfolio site.

You have experience. It is easier to interview with experience. Portfolio projects give you some to show and talk about during an interview. You may not need one, but it is not a waste of time.

Do we really need to explain that you have an experience and your generation is different?. 25 yrs Software dev yet this simple logic didnt get into you hahaha.

yeah people never used to need to have a portfolio back in the day. Back then you could get hired with minimal experience and they would let you learn on the job. But today, things are different , there's more competition, and you do need a portfolio now. Gone are the days when you would just get a dev job fall into your lap. I went 20 years working for a large consulting company without ever needing a portfolio. I got hired on that job with only a couple of years of experience in a previous job, with no portfolio. But back then portfolio's weren't a "thing". Now is different than then.
