    Simple and straight to the point! Always wondered what was actually removed when a car ad stated "TGV delete" as a mod.

    Thank you Brett! After a JDM swap with an EJ20 and repairing all the boost leaks the engine was still loosing power on the top end with little torque on the low end. After watching your video I found the driver side TGV was stuck in the closed position. All Great Videos!

      How did you fix it? Mine is throwing a code for stuck closed, I changed the sensor but it’s still throwing the code

    • @mistafixit666
      @mistafixit666 Год назад

      @@joebalzano7461 The motor that opens and closes the TGV probably failed causing your issue. Its on the opposite side of the sensor you replaced. Try to replace the motor. 2nd option, remove the motor, manually open the TGV, reinstall motor then disconnect the plug. You should have your car back to full power as i did but you may get another code.

    I had a friend and the passenger side TGV got suck closed and he was having issues with first and third cylinders misfiring like you stated. So I had shown him this video and explained that I had done the same butterfly delete like you had in the video onto my 2002 wrx and he should do the same and he wouldn't have to worry about them getting suck closed ever again.

    if both TGVs sensor signal wire is hijacked for other sensors, what is the TGV going to do?

  • @NorbertJungholt
    @NorbertJungholt 7 лет назад +1

    This valve equalizes the inlet flow velocity between the TBI and the head inlet, because of the distance between them, to minimize intake manifold reaction time, improving injection set-up, torque and emissions.

    Hi Brett and MRT. My mechanic diagnosed my stock (unmodified) TGVs as not not working very well. Just curious if you are seeing this as a common thing in cars you work on. Seems like something owners should keep an eye on as a reliability concern. Mine is a 06 WRX EJ255

    I have an American '05 STI. About 6 months ago I got a CEL, and it started making a low whistle that changes pitch depending on throttle position, plus I think there may be a small power loss at higher RPM. Also, a couple of times it's gone into a "severe loss of power" mode. I took it to a mechanic, and they said everything checks out normal. I don't buy it. I'm not imagining that whistle, and I sure as hell didn't imagine the CEL and the "limp mode" coming on yesterday. Could one of these be dirty, or stuck, so it doesn't open all the way? The car is completely stock - I'm sure of this because I'm the original owner, and it had never been to a mechanic before this started happening. It had about 89,000 miles when it started happening.

    • @ginkumo12
      @ginkumo12 7 лет назад +4

      RandiRN1 It'll be rather difficult to get extra power out of a naturally aspirated Subaru motor. Most performance NA mods will sacrifice low end performance for better top end.
      You're better off buying a diesel or 6 cylinder version of the outback.
      There could be a few changes you could do, but a lot of these would be miniscule, untested or expensive.

    • @luismolina4219
      @luismolina4219 Год назад

      Yes, I finally did thankfully. I took it to a Subaru specialist mechanic and he took it apart and confirmed that one side was stuck (the flaps were stuck closed) Therefore, he offered to do the poor man’s TGV delete by removing them and cutting off those flaps that open and close. That fixed the problem and beat having to spend money on the TGV delete mod and the time it would have taken for them to arrive. Not to mention having to be without my car for a while.

I think based on what you said I’m going to find a Subaru specialist and just have it taken care of properly. Thanks again !!

    The TGV on my 1 and 3 cylinders is having issues on my '12 STi. It was stuck closed. I took the motor off of the front side of the engine and saw rust on the white plastic half-moon gear and motor gears. I don't know how it got rusty but I think this is why it got stuck closed. I cleaned it up and don't have a fault code at all now but my engine idles at low MPG but highway without moving throttle too much it is fine. Also when I move the half-moon gear it does not spring back, is that normal? I feel like the sensor on the other side is missing the spring.

      Everyone should pull those damnded carbon goo generators and swap in open pipes. A few companies make kits i highly recommend the full replacement of both sides not just the valve but the black plastic part as well. Honestly the FA20 needs an EGR delete and a good AOS. Add those 3 things and get a good Cobb tune you will get twice the benefits than messing with the intake cats or exhaust. Anyone wanting to exceed 300ish whp will want to seriously consider a crate motor, while the initial layout is pricy you will save thousands of $ snd hundreds of hours chasing problems.

He told me that the tgv delete will net like 5 peak hp or so but towards 20 in the lower rpms. This was in reference to my 2010 wrx so not exactly the same but I would imagine you would see similar results again with a tune.

      I've had the same problem with CEL "P2004 Intake Manifold Runner Control Stuck Open (Bank 1)". I'm dreading going through the trouble of replacing it just to still be stuck with it. Which model are you running? 2013 WRX hatch here.

    It would be nice if you could have a quiet shop to do these videos. Hoist in the back is annoying.
