I've had this procedure 3 times. Left leg upper, and right leg upper and lower. This does work very well, but this is far from totally pain free. The injections are pretty rough and you can feel the catheter moving inside your leg, which is pretty uncomfortable, especially when it gets to your groin. Lots of pressure at times. I do recommend it, but don't go into this thinking this will be a piece of cake. Each time I had this done, immediately after I was like "wow, that was kinda brutal". That being said, it is well worth any pain or discomfort. Its like having new legs after a few weeks.

Sorry u had such experience. Im guessing it depends on the doctor. I had it done 2 days ago. All I felt were initial lidocaine shots. Nothing after. That is untill the numbness went away.

Thank you for great detail as the patient. My 86yo MIL is having this done tomorrow and she is TERRIFIED. Nothing we tell her sets her at ease and it's causing great conflict and turmoil with family.

@@specter1019 HI. I'm so sorry, but I didn't realize there were any replies to my comment. I hope you made out fine. I've never had any issues at all with blood clots, but honestly I think everyone is different when it comes to a person's chance of developing DVT's. It also has to do with the surgeons technique as well. Please let me know how you made out and I wish you well.

@@livebydesignlaurie Hi. Thank you for your reply. I realize I'm late with my response. Has your mother-in-law had her procedure yet? My posting wasn't meant to scare anyone, but there's nothing I hate more than when a doctor tells me a procedure or surgery is an easy one when in fact it was anything but. I'm no stranger to pain or surgeries. I've had a gunshot wound to my left shoulder, 3 inguinal hernia repairs, a total right hip replacement, heart surgery, right knee meniscus repair, left leg phlebectomy, left leg laser ablation, and two right leg radiofrequency ablations. I would rate the leg ablations as a pain level 6 out of 10 DURING the procedure, but as soon as it's done the pain substantially subsides to a dull pain of 3 or so......for a couple weeks. It's temporary, and to be honest, women usually have a higher tolerance for pain than men I have found. I think that has to do with your ability to give birth, seriously. It's totally worth it though. Makes you feel so much younger without achey legs. And then you can have sclerotherapy to clean up all those unsightly veins. It's a process, but everyone appreciates a nice set of gams at any age. Please let me know how everything went.

I had Endovenous Laser Ablation Therapy together with Transluminal Occlusion of Perforators followed by the necessary eight week gap with Ultrasound Guided Foam Sclerotherapy. I had my treatments at The Whiteley Clinic In London Bond Street in 2018 and it was the best £6,000 I ever spent. Mine were caused through a DVT in my 30s through the contraceptive pill.
EVLT has now been replaced by a much more up to date, completely non invasive procedure.

@@tonykari5124I had my procedure done in 2021, in an Austrian hospital, in the operating room. Normally, you would get a general anaesthetic for this kind of procedure because for the doctors here it's serious operation. But I refused and chose to be sedated, which turned out to be useless, because I felt every injection and woke up quite confused... Unfortunately, after the procedure, I had pain in my leg for more than 1 month and couldn't walk without my compression stockings on. But after one month I was fine, thank God! Be glad that you didn't have to put up with all the Hospital "drama" and could have the procedure done in the doctors office. I whish you all the best and a quick recovery.

I received one of these post procedure instructions. Nothing but, "Go back to your normal activity." The RFA has made my leg cramps worse. Instead of calf cramps that I can walk off in 10-15 seconds, I now have thigh cramps that double me over in pain. I can barely walk, but after 10-15 MINUTES, the cramp subsides.

I had this procedure done about 8 months ago. NEVER AGAIN. Did you notice the four puncture marks in the man’s thigh, the doctor did not show the injections because they were so painful that I told my doctor to stop. This was the most painful needles I have ever had. When you have a procedure performed there should be no pain.

I was trying to act like the big man but I swear, had I not clenched my bum cheeks so tight I'd have dropped a load on the Doctor. Wasn't expecting that. Could cope with the needles, just bearable, but the part when the wire travels up to your groin, that's when the fight or flight kicked in. Hope I never need it again.

Just had this done under sedation. Asked my doc why it seems most people get it done under local, and he said that he used to do it that way, but after too many cases of people being unable to tolerate it he now does it under sedation. All these comments are making me glad he chose this method. If you ever need it done again, I would suggest you try to have it done this way.

Doctor, how does the lidocaine remain contained within the area surrounding vein? Also, while I think i prefer VNUS vs. Venaseal, yet note that even 15-20mmHg knee-highs cause me to feel black and blue at side of knee, when removed. Heavier compression usually kill me. Also, ACE wraps and Circaid look like they'd torture me, and they're too complicated. Is there any alternative for me after VNUS?

They were not informative on the importance of wearing compression stockings after the procedures. I feel that my efforts have been detrimental to the outcome of the surgery. From the standpoint of not being properly instructed post operations. What should I do?? I have literally been doing opposite of your instructions, because I had little guidance. 😦
