- Greetings RUclips! Hit that subscribe button and join me as I ride south 400 miles in one sitting to Pompeii. Desperate to leave the motorways behind I head down the coastal road but slow progress with a capital 'S' steers me back to the Autostrada... The traffic is pretty hectic skirting roam, but it was nothing compared to the chaos awaiting me in Pompeii!

Talk about cutting you up, 2 cars got a bit close. Well done Steve , much easier in the sunshine 🌞
Thanks Alan, yes, you need eyes in the back of your head riding these roads! The sunshine is a game changer 🌞😎
Loving your videos. You are inspiring me to tour Europe on my GSX-8S which I am hoping to do later this year. Looking forward to your next episodes. Many thanks.
Hi there, I’m so glad you are enjoying my videos and they are inspiring you to tour Europe. Do it if you can, you won’t regret it! Thanks for watching 🙂
Well done Steve , you're getting there , look forward to the next ride .👍😎
Thanks Chris, riding through Italy is an absolute pleasure! I’m loving it! 😁
Looks like your having a fabulous time in Italia.....if you see Frankie Howard in Pompeii...titter ye not, sorry I couldn't resist it lol 🤣👍
Hi Colin, do you know, when I think of Pompeii, Frankie Howerd always springs to mind… no missus! Italy is such a beautiful country, it is definitely one of my favourite places 😁
Enjoying watching your travels Steve makes me want to do test and get a bike do always travel alone ride safe
Hi Stuart, I’m so glad you are enjoying my videos! If you take the plunge and get yourself on two wheels I’m sure you’ll never look back! I usually ride alone but not always… later in the summer I will be touring the Black Forest with my son, Ben, who rides a Triumph. Thanks for watching 😁
Nice to see the sun shining on you Steve . Traffic looks like a nightmare, look forward to the next video. Enjoy your travels 👍
Hi Preston, the traffic is quite staggering at times but the sun makes up for it! What a pleasant change from all that rain! 😁
Keep pushing on. Doing great 👍
Thank you my friend and thanks for watching! 😁
Great place Italy, only spoiled by the Italians! I remember the first time I drove there back in the early 80's and realised there are no rules of the road, its everyone for themselves, as soon as you stop you sound your horn, only stop at a red light if the polizia are on duty. Been back several times, once down to Sicily. As you found if your on a time limit, motorways have to be used as its so slow going along the coast especially in the north, fortunately now i am retired I hardly ever use motorways, which makes for a much more interesting ride.
oh ffs i have 2 weeks so now Im wondering if I can do Naples and Pompei - need to stop watching youtube....
Just go man, adventure and joy is out there.
Do it! You won’t regret it! 😁
Even the Italians don’t go to Naples (that’s from an Italian who I met in Casino)
The motorway was definitely the right choice. It'd be criminal to not be able to get a coffee in Italy; plus you still got to see some sights
We are clearly of a like mind! Coffee in Italy is a must…. 😁
Great progress for todays journey - well done.
Hi Brian, thanks! 😁
Brilliant stuff again buddy great edit 👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you my friend! I really appreciate that 😁
Great scenery and it’s not raining Steve 😀 looking forward to to the next one 👍
Thank you my friend! I am so loving the sun, it makes such a pleasant change from all that rain! See you in the next one 😁
fabulous scenery again Steve keep them coming my friend "lets have it !!"
Thanks Arch, what a pleasure it is to explore this great country! 😁
Hi Steve. I see that you use pretty rough off road tires on your motorcycle. This means significantly increased fuel consumption and, not least, poorer grip on asphalt. Am I misunderstanding something here? Anyway, I love your trip and can't wait for the next episode :)
Hi there, I’m so glad you’re enjoying the trip! The Anakee Wilds I’m running aren’t the right tyre for this trip but they still had a bit of life left in them after my last tour which was Morocco and the Sahara Desert (where they were very much needed!), so I thought I’ll finish them off and maybe even get them changed whilst away… It seemed to much of a shame to ditch them with still a few thousand miles left… A very good point though! 😁
There's a Massive US Army Base near where you were camped.
When l was Pisa the US Military planes were like wasps flying in and out.
Great trip , go in for a paddle in the salt water 💧
Hi Mike, I didn’t notice the military base but what a beautiful area. I did put my hand in the sea… it was pretty cold! 🥶 😂
Another memory lane for me,
Couldn't believe the name of the campsite, me and my, ex girlfriend Julia loved motorcycling especially in Italy,
At one campsite we bought a bottle of spirit because it had her name on it,
Grappa Julia, should have been called rocket fuel.
We never stopped at that campsite,
But would always stopped at one in sorrento,
Camping Nube D'argento, right in Sorrento.
Looking forward to the next instalment.
Hi Alan, what a fab story! Making good memories is what touring is all about. Hopefully the rest of my tour will keep memory lane going for you. 😁
This is a race against time to cover your high mileage. I have decided to go the slow way. Six weeks tour through the EU as far as the Czech Rep. & Poland. Retirement has its benefits but one of them is not being old.
Hi Stephen, that sounds like a brilliant trip you have ahead of you. I fancy touring Eastern Europe very much.. When I am a bit more time-rich I will definitely go for the slow way. Luckily I just like riding so am happy to be sat on the bike watching the scenery pass by as I cover the miles… 🙂
Easier watching than you suffering in storms and winds Steve
Hi Miranda, it’s certainly easier riding in the sunshine than the storms and wind! Thanks for watching! 😁
Wouldn't it be nice if you didn't have a time-schedule? Meaning, no fuss about arriving in Sicily by a certain date. Okay, you probably have a job and therefore only a given number of vacation days, but the thought is liberatingly delicious. For us viewers, but especially for you who have to rush past countless beautiful places to complete the journey's goal.
I would absolutely love to not be on the clock and to take my time and thoroughly explore the areas I pass through. I hope one day to be in the position to do so (it shows promise of heading that way) but alas, currently work commitments mean I have to squeeze a tour in where I can. As I enjoy being on the bike a lot, I am really happy sight seeing from the saddle and it means I have a great excuse to return when time permits me to explore further! 😁
setting off on Saturday -but doing black forest etc first then down into Italy for hopefully a bit of sun - Im wimping out and doing hotels though - what tent are you using btw ? Im going for your Morocco trip either in September or early next year so keep going 👍
"its a bit expensive 30 euros" ok so Im officially ashamed of myself....
That sounds fantastic! You’re beating me to the Black Forest, I’ll be there with my son, Ben, for his first bike tour, late August… can’t wait! You’ll love Morocco, that tour has definitely stayed with me and I will be back at some point. My tent is an OEX Cougar 2 - it’s starting to fall apart now after about 10 years of use. It was relatively cheap - just over £100 from ago Outdoors… After my Italy tour I will do a camping gear video… 🙂
Makes riding in the UK nice ans safe 😂😂😂
Hi Richard, you’re not wrong! 😂
