    I used to sell High Wnd Audio from 1978-2008 and Spirits in the Material World was one of my go to demo disks. The snap on Stewarts snare drum would tell me instantly if the speaker and associated electronics could resolve the attack and decay of transients. Stewart has always been one of my favorite percussionist/drummer.

    Not AI though this is still really cool. The backing tracks that come installed on some keyboards are recordings of MIDI programmed in a DAW by musicians. I do like the idea of coming up with a groove or songs by using a backing track. There’s a lot you can do with time feel, harmony and melody which feel more natural to songwriters with a backing track.

    • @just_ben1951
      @just_ben1951 6 месяцев назад

      Yeah but what if backing track chords change based on piano keys that are pressed. That's what he's saying.

    • @Mattythebassist_
      @Mattythebassist_ 6 месяцев назад +2

      @@just_ben1951 Not sure exactly what you”re describing but from your description that’s not Artificial Intelligence. They are backing tracksnow that use AI to generate musical responses to someone’s input but this was definitely not a thing in the early 80s. Backing tracks on some synths could be modified slightly with tempo controls, effects and transposition buttons but nothing like AI.

    Everytime I see & hear Stewart Copeland, I always learn something mindblowing.
    Stewart has an uncanny ability to communicate with such next level intelligence that he could literally make even boring pamphlets seem earth shattering.
    His passion, drumming, creative mind & total individuality makes me want to listen to Stewart for hours.
    Copeland is by far my No1 ranked drummer next to Jeff Porcaro.
    If AI can become as good as Copeland, humanity is screwed.
    Spirits is such an awesome track & blew my mind when first hearing it on FOX FM.
    Seriously, I'm slightly hyperventilating even over the possibility that Rick managed to score an interview with Stewart as it's been on my wish list forever.
    God bless you both Rick & Stewart!

    I agree with some of these comments.... That's not AI, a person comes up with all the demos and parts we hear in all the keyboards we've all used. It had to be programmed. But I do also believe it's all there for our inspiration and creation. 🤟

    IMHO one of the best songs of all time, and one of my favorite songs of all time, from my favorite Police album. The complexity, the varying time signatures (seemingly) diverging then coming back together in and locking, Stewart's signature syncopation, was endlessly fascinating to me as a 14 year old in 1981, and still is today.

      @sisyphuscranerigging7792 6 месяцев назад +2

      What makes a great drummer is the crazy stuff he/she comes up with - even if all the decent ones have playing chops. Stewart was driven to always be unique, original, always looking for something new and cool sometimes driving Sting crazy! But you almost want to give him the edge for The Police's success. Sting's post-Police music is good, but not so much for me, it's his Police stuff that still makes me want to put on Synchronicity or Ghost! The Police was a ready-made supergroup, they were all superstar caliber and Stewart was monstrous.
