  • The soprano Barbara Hannigan sings Youkali, of Kurt Weill, with the pianist Alexandre Tharaud. Song recorded on Radio France, september 25th.
Youkali is an extract from the musical play "Marie-Galante", of Jacques Deval (1934). It's one of the songs composed for the play by Kurt Weill. Youkali is a tango-habanera originally purely instrumental, whose lyrics have been added in 1935 by Roger Fernay. This music is a mix of several musical styles, inspired by cabarets, jazz, and popular berliner songs. The lyrics of the song recalls a lost golden age, a kind of melancholia.
