Those days were days for me in the 80's!! How I miss the family and friends that are not longer with me. As Oscar Wilde said, "youth is wasted on the young". How true!!!
I remember as a young person back in the 1970s seeing a programme with old age pensioners talking about their youth and saying, "Everything's changed beyond recognition now." I thought, "What do they mean, what's changed?" I saw the programme again recently and understood exactly how they felt. This comes to every generation.
What a wonderful song. As I get older the lyrics have a deeper and richer meaning to me than when I listened to it when I was younger. It speaks to me of my own experiences with friends of long ago... It does not bring back bittersweet memories, but fond and joyful memories of a life well lived :)
the song was performed by many singers: gypsy, russian french, english, american. Even considered to be a "folk" song. But there is a talented man behind this sweet melody. Boris Fomin created this song in 1917th, Sankt-Peterburg, Russia. Words by Konstantin Podrevskiy, were added, or changed to in 1924. Lost love, pain caused by parting, long road through the night..

And everything was as we left it 12 years ago. All of those serious talks, sitting on "our" bench, drinking cheap beers and in the end laughing until tears. Our small city changed, the faces around us were unfamiliar and so was the case in our lives. God, I almost started crying hearing them laugh once again. Nothing in our lives was as simple and nonchalant as it was all those years ago. Reality hit us badly. We've lost friends and loved ones and with every passing day our existence has become more complicated yet. All of us lost the glimmer in our eyes we had. But tonight I saw the glimpse of glimmer even in passing. I'm moving to another country far away soon and so is another one of them. The number of times we can repeat this is numbered. But God, I love you guys. Nothing in the world compares. You created a small infinity with our endless numbered days ❤

I loved this song. It was so.."odd" at the time that it was charming. It grew on you. Very catchy and kitchy ...it just had that something that you could not forget..or escape from. Its funny how 50 years ago with all the turmoil of that year a song like this came out of left field and became such a big hit. I appreciated it then..and love it even more today. ✌
Through the door there came familiar laughter. I saw your face and heard you call my name. Oh my friend we're older but no wiser. For in our hearts the dreams are still the same..........I get teary eyed every time. Every time.
Dear Sxnx Bxll. This is because we sqaunder the very vital and important part of life (18-30 years) , either in meaningless pursuit of some thing or just while-away. The running waters wont flow back, if we look over our shoulder a vast, barren and unfulfilled landscape frightens us.

Those were the days my friends~~~ 그 시절 친구들이여 잘 지내고 있는지. 신길동 뚝방 친구들. 1960년대가 아련히 떠오르는 구먼!
In the 70's my gf hazel had a Japanese girl visiting Singapore and we took her around. I no longer with my gf but wonder if the Japanese girl is still around. They were with Omron Osaka

Forever young
I want to be forever young
Do you really want to live forever?

what a great song..memories are priceless..and warms the heart along with sadness we remember with a tear in our eyes.
I was nine years old when this song was getting a lot of air play. I loved it then and I still love it fourty nine years later. In two months this song will be fifty years old. Except now it has so much more depth having clocked fifty years since it was on the charts.
Thank you -- I really like this song - it kind of sinks in along with nostalgia when you're nearing 90.......
This was back when music had a story to tell, a meaning behing them. Heart.
I have a vivid memory of being in the car with my mom when I was a young kid and my mom turning up the radio when thos song came on and singing along without a care in the world. That was about 52 years ago. One year ago my mom left this world. I play this song from time to time just to take me back to that moment in time. I miss you mom. I'll see you again someday.
My mom was listening to this song on the radio and I love it
Thank you this great song ! Brings back memories from 1968, some sad, some happy...Marjorie Lynn
Since the first time I listened to this song, it became my favorite.
The lyrics sound like telling us our own story.
3:16 I have known this song since is was a child, I would always listen to my parents music of all genres and enjoy the nostalgia that came with it, but in recent years loosing my identical twin brother Richard ,my Grandad and Dad in four years the story becomes my reality and gives bittersweet comfort ❤❤
Loved listening to this in 1969 while sitting in a stadium 😀

Even though it has an upbeat music.....this is an extremely heartbreaking song!
I never knew my grandmother but my mother told me she would listen to this song all the time ❤️
This song is so good that i can listen to it whole day, and yes it makes me miss my friends more and more
I “got” this song when it came out... I was 10. I have a clear memory of the past but the older I get the less I cling to it. Not sure why. So this song was more emotional to me 54 years ago than it is now.
