      I know HI3 isn't as popular as Genshin or Star Rail, but it's people are straight up forgetting it exists when looking over ZZZ. It's quite obvious that if you were to choose any of HoYo's action games to compare ZZZ to it would be Honkai with the faster-paced combat, hack n' slash elements, and even the energy system since Honkai has that too.

    This is starting to feel more like Honkai Impact more and more. Three man team who you switch around, perfect evasion/parry, switch combos, bangboo (elf) system, the characters are their own characters outside combat and you can increase trust with them, story stages consume energy. All of these are Honkai Impact things.

      To me it feels more like this is miHoYo's answer to Punishing: Gray Raven (and new action games that came after it, like Aether Gazer) which funnily was Kuro game's response to Honkai. Just to name an example, the 6 slot gear system is a PGR thing as opposed to the 3 slot system of Honkai. A lot of combat mechanics are more reminiscent of Gray Raven as well. A lot of early PGR came from Honkai and now we go full circle with a lot of ZZZ coming from PGR.
      Also, given how they are rebooting Honkai early next year, i'd not make a lot of sense for them to simultaneously develop two games that are competing for the same audience, thought from what i saw in this video, they really need to make their mind if they're going for the audience that wants challenging action combat or just casual button mashing fun. You can't please both, there's other games to go to if you're looking only for either of those.

    It sounds like ZZZ is taking from Hi3's Type/Element system. Teams are usually made up of various types of damage (Biologic, Mecha, Psychic, Quantum, Imaginary, and now Stardust) but deal primarily one damage element (Physical, Lightning, Ice, and Fire). The prominent exceptions is are Trio - a team made up of three Imaginary types that each deal Fire, Lightning, and Ice damage and whose kits change when on a team together - and Herrscher of Truth - the Ice element member of Trio whose buffs to Fire and Lightning make her indispensable to teams focusing on those elements. There's also a pseudo fifth element, Bleed, for which a dedicated buffer is about to release and that layers on top of the four traditional elements.
    Anyway, units can have a type advantage/disadvantage against enemies while enemies can also be vulnerable or resistant to particular elements. As a result, end game challenges are easily tailored to particular units, albeit you can still do well with a dps that only partially counters the boss

    Personally, I found the MC-specific town to be really helpful at selling the sort of Persona vibe that parts of the game can emphasize, and I'm a huge nerd so the puzzles/hollow/"tv mode" gameplay has generally been a pretty fun way to keep the pace of the game variable.
    The farm systems having such an intrusive energy cost (and hence disrupting story progress if you want to level your Agents/Bangboos/whatever-the-fuck-else) is a bit rough while still working through the story, but I find the ability to dump energy/"do my dailies" in just a few minutes to be an absolute godsend if I want to stick with the game, because every single game that's demanded more than that is something I've bounced off of in a month.

It's fun, looks incredible, it has a lot of potential, but it has a looooot of problems that need to be adresed before it opens shop, otherwise it's going to lose a lot of players really fast, specialy the boring tv puzzless, the locked story quest, and the ineficient stamina system. I've also heard concerns regarding the gacha and artifacts grind, to the point that some say this may be mihoyo's most predatory system, which is a lot, given how Honkai impact 3rd has a standar banner, a character banner, a weapon banner with both the weapon and stigma (honkai artifacts) you need for your valkyrie, another character banner with increased rate but completely independent pull count, the elf banner which would be like the bangboos of ZZZ, but a lot less relevant and the skins banner (it's not called a banner but it's basicaly a banner).

      Speaking from experience playing both games, it's true Honkai has a lot more banners, but in general, those characters are very easy to obtain.
      They give you free S ranks (5 stars) on occasion, any A rank (4 star) valkeries you can effortlessly grind out without spending a single crystal. And new character releases usually happen far enough apart from each other that you can get them I'd you save. They also have a tendency to move older valkeries to standard banner, with an increased chance to obtain a new S rank you don't already own. They also give you free standard banner pulls, like in any other hoyogame. You also only need to pull a character once, and they're more or less complete. ELF's are completely whalebait and not at all necessary.
      Where they DO get you, though, is on the equipment banner, which is admittedly a nightmare to deal with. However, you can almost always find something suitable that you can grind and craft. A lot of sets are also easily transferable from one character to another, as there are actual set loadouts.
      All things considered, I want to say HI3 is the least greedy between the Big 3 of Hoyoverse games. It does however, have the most egregious powercreep, so you are incentivised to pull for newer units if you can.

    • @evalinova
      @evalinova 11 месяцев назад +21

      I quit Honkai shortly after the original arc ended very early this year, so i can assure you i have no need to white knight for it.
      That said, while all these banners you mention are a thing, you are missing two essential elements: one, there are a lot more sources of gacha currency income compared to Genshin, and two, you don't get bombarded by back to back S ranks (5 star in genshin terms) they are spaced out at every other update, with the Valkyrie in between usually being either straight up free or f2p affordable. Just imagine how happy a Genshin player would be if you told them they don't need to spend anything to get that new 4 star they like so much.
      Oh yeah, also, no 50/50 garbage in Honkai, you get who you pull for. I played for +3 years before quitting and i never really had an issue getting everyone i wanted, i did miss gear here and then, yes, but you definitely learn to get by and work around that. Honestly 4/4 Valks are only a need if you want to go 1 to 1 with whales and veterans (Red Lotus to Nirvana) So yeah, i thought i'd had to mention this for anyone not really familiar with it
      --Edit--: There's a couple replies being a bit more critical that i have been, and i guess i have to emphasize what i said was mainly based on my experience as a HI 3rd player for over 3 years, i'm aware others might have had a different, not as pleasant experience.
      That said, I do want to reiterate, while weapon is an important part yes, i will not deny that, full gear valks are only a real need in whale/veteran tiers. By the time i quit, even ER was clearable at max reward with substitutes if you knew how to choose your signets.
      Now someone else mentioned it's only a few characters who are free, i want to say that save for counted occasions the release schedule has consistently been S rank > A rank/SP > S rank etc, in simpler terms, every other character released is free/farmable, it's definitely not "some" only.
      Finally, there is a comparison about the cost of pulls, i will just say trying to compare the ratio of pull cost 1:1 of two different games is not a very accurate way of doing things, a better and fair comparison would be to determine number of total pulls per week from non-event regular activities, in which i'm sure Honkai is at least just there with every other game, if not a bit above.

Also the harsh reality is even in games that do still use the stamina system to do any content they normally give you so many free stamina pots that you forget it even exists. Fgo farming is terrible indeed, but not because of stamina. the biggest piece of doodoo is that you need to clear the same stage hundreds of time MANUALLY to farm which means unless you're insane there is no way you're actually going to use all your apple, i have 600 gold ones in stock rn and the simple thought of having to use them gives me seizures.
      The stamina system is a system that works. It is the single most common system in gacha because it's so straightforward and such a good baseline for player retention. Hoyoverse people who don't play other gachas are like anime fans who only watched ghibli movies. They'll look at the medium and pretend like they know what's good and bad when they are completly disconnected from reality.
      The reality is that stage based games like the overwhelming majority of gachas are (GFL, azur lane, PGR, FGO, arknights etc...) need a stamina system to stop the player from blitzing the game and keep playing. I find games with no stamina to be a time sink because they essentially become idle games.
      Not only is it ubiquitous but most gachas feature game modes that do away with the stamina requirement, arknights has an endlessly replayable roguelike mode, pgr has endlessly replayable war zone mode and roguelikes too. Even if they stop yielding goodies, you can play all you want. Fgo is, again, an exception on account of being really old and allergic to change, i can't recall any content that doesn't use stamina.
      Hell, reverse 1999 which is brand new uses a stamina system with stages. Such backward wow. Meanwhile nikke which doesn't use stamina AT ALL still has a hard cap on farming through stage being locked for the day after X number of attempt. Stamina is an easy fix for a problem, genshin fixes that problem slightly differently but still hardcaps you in the same way typical stamina does. Every gacha game WILL restrict and time gate your progression in one way or another. The problem is to know how they monetize the cap, if the game creates a problem (restrictive hardcap) and then sells a solution then it is a problem.
      The actual reality, not the one you made up in your head, is that every single gacha has a hardcap, stamina is just the most common system.
      Stamina isn't outdated and there is no telling if zzz will have such a predatory system, chances are it won't because we know HI3rd hands you a bunch of potions

The different between Yoimiya an Hu Tao is that you have to spam lift click, while the other have to hold. But the different between Milla and May in Guilty Gear are huge. They started out with a max of 180 energy to use, but when players said it wasnt enough, they actually listened and not only upped the energy limit to 240, but they made a system where, if you missed a day or two, it saves a portion of energy for later use so you aren't constantly pressured to get on and use the energy or else you're wasting it. That plus all the other QOL changes they've done made me decide to stick with Star Rail, even if its gameplay isnt as gripping. I think it would be great if they manage to somehow change the inter-combat gameplay from the TVs into something more similar to HSR, where you can walk around with your characters and do the challenges you would otherwise be doing in the tv mode. I know that it would increase the amount of development work by a lot but currently the TVs do not seem interesting at all, and not really immersive in the world either.

    I just want the system changes of Star Rail and the visuals of ZZZ to be added to Genshin. I'm not interested in restarting the gacha grind from zero in a new game that I might not even like after a month, but I would totally be willing to get back into Genshin if it got more major improvements beyond simple QoL changes that should have been in the game since the beginning.
    And also an optional bonus world level at an extra hard difficulty. Even if there's no extra rewards, I would really like for enemies to not instantly fall to the floor by my very presence.

    • @GenshinYuppe
      @GenshinYuppe 11 месяцев назад +9

      genshin is actually getting a lot of QOL hand-me-downs from starrail, and more are coming. the world level thing is something i've been asking for since the beginning, too. Fountaine did something neat with local legends. each new sub-region has two of them. they're above-abyss level mobs that are just standing there in the overworld for you to use as punching bags. i often just go kill all of them for fun. and well, to be sincere, it takes a serious party to do it. when i go in half-assed, i often get wiped, which is AWESOME. the elemental bottle thrower guy is specially lethal. it's the only thing in the whole game that actually breaks my noelle's shield if i don't dodge properly.
      about visuals, the animations of ZZZ look absolutely gorgeous, but the graphics themselves look... idk they look worse than genshin to me. feels like a wii game.

    • @predat11
      @predat11 11 месяцев назад +7

      @GenshinYuppe Genshin still needs more to it though even now when star rail is going to be getting massive new qol updates in 1.6 like moc floors 11 and 12 and the ability to skip and get full rewards from moc 1-7 as long as you 3 star floor 7. Apparently they will be adding some other special version of moc called pure fiction or something that will swap off every 2 weeks to spice it up as well and you get a total of 6 weeks to finish the 12 floors rather than only 2 with the next round showing up every 2 weeks like normal anyway. They will even be adding a new shop and new currency for those that complete moc to further rewards those players. Where the heck is the motivation to do spiral abyss? Would be easy to just add a currency to it and be able to buy 4 stars or 5 stars and you get currency based off how many stars you get and just keep letting it add up to add some motivation to spiral abyss since a majority of the population doesn't participate which is a shame because it's a cakewalk compared to star rail's version of spiral abyss. Self-modeling resin in star rail also a massive qol being able to make 2 pieces of any artifacts with whatever main stat you want on it is a life saver and Genshin woefully needs this implemented in some way. Star rail also added in this patch extra rewards past finishing the battle pass which isn't much of anything but even a little reward feels nice to get instead of 3 weeks of getting nothing from the battle pass waiting for next patch. Luckily Genshin will finally be getting the new system in place though for using 20 some odd artifacts at once instead of 6 thankfully, but it feels like there can be many more things in place that Genshin should have as a no brainer. Auto resend expeditions finally coming which should have been the easiest thing to implement for instance. Get rid of the dumb weapon banner fail twice to get your weapon. While it may seem like I love star rail more, Genshin is the superior game and I will always stand by it, I just wish that all the love star rail was getting would come this way for once.

    as a guy whos been a casual fan have been playing HI3 since 2017 and never really got into genshin or star rail. this game sounds perfect to me, with the story, the gameplay, the daily grind. while i absolutely adore being neck deep into honkai lore, i think having a more chill story is definitely something i've been looking for a while now to try and chill down. the game play looks pretty similar with the perfect dodges and combo attacks. the daily grind was definitely something i've been more worried about as the one thing that didn't click with me in both genshin or star rail was how long it took to grind and how much daily grinding it required compared to something as quick as HI3, im already used to having the main story or literally all modes taking up some sorta energy meter so that doesn't really faze me in the slightest. having these amazing looking cinematic is just the cherry on top for me, idk if anything is going to ever beat out the everlasting flame video in honkai as i doubt this game will have the same deep character connections, but visually certainly looks absolutely spectacular

    Appreciate your time and effort in making a really in-depth review with actual constructive suggestions for improvement. I hope Hoyo can take reviews like yours seriously. It helped me form a good picture of this game. I don't think I'm going to like every little thing locked behind resins / battery. Maybe it's the CN gaming companies' answer to their government in complying to the policy of preventing kids / youths video game addiction, I don't know. But for me, this is a pretty big turn off.
    1 thing I really dislike about Genshin, though the overall game experience is still good, is how higher ARs after AR 45 doesn't even get decent farming returns, making the point of hitting AR 60 seems meaningless. E.g. at AR 58, there is still no surefire way of getting at least 1 or 2 gold talent books per run, having runs that return no gold books are just as common compared to say AR 50. Artifact farming is a real pain that now I don't do anything more than a run a day, just treating it as a small daily lottery bet. I'm guessing similar aspects aren't gonna get any better with ZZZ either, and to know that every little mission needs resin / battery, it's surely not anything exciting to look forward to at this point.

      Thing is, while _HI3_ is a great game (certainly my favourite of Mihoyo's), most people decide to pass on it because of the lack of an EN dub, or because it was built as a mobile game, or a combination of the two. By basing many systems on _HI3_ 's, Mihoyo probably hopes this will bring more players into _HI3_ itself, since _ZZZ_ will have the usual four language dubs, be cross-platform, and not be built as a mobile game, but from the ground-up as a refined gaming experience. Thing about that is, though, that unless they actually add an EN dub to _HI3_ , I still think people who don't want to read subtitles will still pass on _HI3_ -- their reasons for doing so still will not have changed. So, assuming people who come to _ZZZ_ will continue to pass on _HI3_ , it'll be a completely unique gaming experience for them. At the same time, Captains will also enjoy _ZZZ_ because of the similarities inherent in their shared systems. Or at least that's my theory for now.
      If Mihoyo adds an EN dub to _HI3_ for 8.0, I'm gonna laugh pretty hard.

    This game is clearly made for Honkai Impact 3rd fans. It even uses the same core features. Some of the comparisons are that the Bangboos are like Elfs, Hollow Zero is just Elysium Realm, using energy for story content, and the combat is the same but gets rid of time fracture and puts more emphesis on QTEs. The difficulty scaling is realatively the same too (with the exception of some of the side missions in the openworld chapters for HI3 becoming challenging as you do them over and over for better gear in that chapter)

  • @StriderHoang

    The thing that drives me up a wall while I’m in CBT2, is when people build their entire argument around difficulty is that I wasn’t sold on this game for challenge. When I saw trailers for the game, I was imagining Devil May Cry in its normal difficulty, not a Dante Must Die challenge.
    Sure, finding something engaging is important, but I always answer questionnaires about the average story or commission content as Just Right. It’s not hard, no, but enemies have a tendency to surround me and make gauging dodge timing feel different, or a particular rogue construction machine has punishing aoe combos. I found normal content like that engaging, even if most wouldn’t consider it challenging. And all this is before proper high-end content too.

    By far the game model is most similar to Honkai Impact 3rd. The combat is pretty much the same with the switching attacks, dodge attacks, and combo attacks. The story and game progression has the same element where you spend stamina to do them. The gacha seems pretty similar as well in terms of potentially having a banner for the bamboos (elf equivalent in 3rd). If you aren't familiar with Honkai Impact 3rd or any other similar game model, then you might not like these features but I honestly don't see much of a problem. Yeah, maybe the TV mode could be changed to be more for side missions or puzzles, the difficulty could be harder since it's targeted towards more niche communities who value it (I guess?), and the story could be more immersive for the starting hours, but besides that it doesn't look like anything else is really a negative. Different games have the possibility to have different game models so maybe it's better to adjust to it rather than make them copy their other game models that may not be suitable for this type of game. Again, idk much but I enjoyed the model of Honkai Impact 3rd so not much complaint about the structure here.
