    Yeah. As a scientist it really pisses me off when dipshits who don’t know what we do, talk about what we do, and have no clue the amount of school required to get said science degree. Some of us can even get professional licenses on top of that degree, which includes more experience and tests. I don’t go into courts of law pretending to be more educated in the law than the lawyers in the room. Sorry. Eric triggered me.

      I totally understand what you're saying, as a historian it always pisses me off when people like Hovind or Ham make the most ridiculous claims about our history while at the same time saying people who spend their life doing research are wrong. don`t these people know there is more to dating things than just looking at a tree or building and guessing?

    The cover picture they chose for the Grand Canyon Movie is the Horseshoe bend?
    THE Horseshoe bend?!

      Alternative explanation: they're psychopaths.
      Psychopaths enjoy playing with their victims. Like giving them warnings of what is about to come but which they cannot evade. They also enjoy "proving" themselves smarter than their victims by providing clues that their victims are too stupid to spot.
      Case in point: Joseph Smith gave many clues that his new religion was a scam. He had a prophet called Mormon, which is very similar to the word "moron." When they didn't figure out that clue he dropped another one with the angel Moroni (I pronounce it "moron-y"). And then the planet -bollocks- Kolob (too obvious if he spelled it bolox so he spelled it backwards).
      This could be more of the same. A full-on lie utilizing the very thing that proves it is a lie. What could be more psychopathic?

    As I understand it the bristlecone is the least of Eric's problems. There's the grove of quaking aspens in Utah that's 80,000 years old. I'd love to hear Eric explain (without relying on"uh no its not") how a tree is 13 times older then the universe.

    • @PaulTheSkeptic
      @PaulTheSkeptic 6 лет назад +3

      Yeah, there are actually quite a few examples like that. Certain orchards or creosote rings can go back many tens of thousands of years. Not to mention ice core samples, radiometric dating, dendrochronology and everything else.

    • @ParanormalEncyclopedia
      @ParanormalEncyclopedia 6 лет назад +9

      This is what I find so disappointing about my fellow Christians in the young earther camp. There are so many amazing things out there in real science. The idea that a grove of trees is a single living organism and that it predates even Sumer is amazing to me. There's something spiritual, for lack of a better word, in that imo something that transcends the numbers of its age. War, famine, death, civilizations rise and fall, entire species have gone extinct but trees continue to exist from before the dawn or our oldest civilization. Good science doesn't lessen our sense of wonder about the world around us it only deepens it.

      The problem in debating a creationist and YES they are stupid by choice.
      They believe--
      1) the Bible is the complete word of God, it is without error and presents an accurate history of god’s dealing with his children on earth as well as how the world came to be.
      2) when there is no evidence supporting #1; that’s OK because we trust in god fully.
      3) in case the Bible is wrong refer to rule #1.
      They accept no evidence that differs from the Bible hence only they can change their minds, no evidence can weaken their faith.
      A video from an interview with a young guy holding a doctorate in Cosmology or Astronomy gave me the info above. I think it’s still on RUclips. With his education, he still accepts no data that does not support his Bible. Why do we debate these knuckleheads?

      Yggdrasil?

    • @ParanormalEncyclopedia
      @ParanormalEncyclopedia 6 лет назад +3

      I'd agree on all 3 points. The Bible is a mix of parable, myth and history taking it as absolutely literal does it a disservice to me. Most Christians accept that science is the process of learning the principles of God's creation (hence why most of us accept the science) its sad that some people stick their heads in the sand and refuse to accept it.
      As for debating it probably because some do occasionally listen. Paulogia was a young earther once but an honest study of the science changed his mind.

    • @Poe397
      @Poe397 6 лет назад

      mugogrog, Quote mining by definition is about as dishonest as one can get. Of course whoever performed the original quote mining did so to be dishonest. Eric ,if not the originator, is dishonest by not fact checking before using the mined quotes. That being said, anyone involved in performing or using mined quotes is by definition,...dishonest.

    Just throwing this out. I have a degree in history, but my dad taught physics, so I always had a respect for science. I homeschooled my kids, because I wanted them to learn critical thinking. My husband also taught science in the school system. I am disgusted by Eric Hovind! One does not have to go beyond the basics to find problems with his method. I'm not claiming to be an expert, but the fallacies are obvious to anyone with a sincere desire to look critically at the evidence. Great job, Paul! Whatever we believe, it must always be supported by logic and science. Thanks again for mentioning that MANY theists accept an old earth, evolution, and modern science in general.

    Paulogia, another great video, but I used a spreadsheet and , assuming Year meant year and Day meant day, because those two Ancient Hebrew words are used consistently, went through the main dating thread of the Bible and came up with about the same numbers as Ussher.
    I say “main thread”, because there are contradictions, for example within the generations that lived in Egypt (I know, most, if not all, of the aspects of the slavery and Exodus stories are myths.)

    The audio compression you used to raise the volume of Creation Today's video really murdered the sound. You can hear the background music rise and fall in volume dramatically as the compression kicks in. I checked the original video and it was fine, so there's something up on your end. I have a bachelor degree in forestry and work primarily with private landowners. I can’t go a day without having to dispel misinformation like what Eric perpetuates in his video. His analysis of comparing two different types of trees, then concluding because they are both trees they grow the same way, is beyond wrong. I would even stand out on a limb to say that trees like BCP that grow in suboptimal conditions would have fewer rings then normal because of stress. This would make them even older then what is on the increment borer sample. Good fact finding Paul, and a great video.

    This video calls for a melancholy song about eternity and the relative worth of nature and the supernatural.
    "Way up in the mountains on the high timber line
    There's a twisted old tree called the Bristlecone Pine
    The wind there is bitter, it cuts like a knife
    And it keeps that tree holding on for dear life
    But hold on it does, standing its ground
    Standing as empires rise and fall down
    When Jesus was gathering lambs to his fold
    The tree was already a thousand years old
    Now the way I have lived there ain't no way to tell
    When I die if I'm going to heaven or hell
    So when I'm laid to rest it would suit me just fine
    To sleep at the feet of the Bristlecone Pine
    For as I would slowly return to the earth
    What little this body of mine might be worth
    Would soon start to nourish the roots of that tree
    And it would partake of the essence of me
    And who knows but that as the centuries turn
    A small spark of me might continue to burn
    As long as the sun did continue to shine
    Down on the limbs of the Bristlecone Pine
    Now the way I have lived there ain't no way to tell
    When I die if I'm going to heaven or hell
    So I'd just as soon serve out eternity's time
    Asleep at the feet of the Bristlecone Pine
    Asleep at the feet of the Bristlecone Pine
    "

    Is modern ministry going to be producing movies? If so I gotta say it's a neat move in my book. They're trying to get more hip and it's always interesting to see how they do it. Taking a simple upbeat edm themed song. Annual movies like movie companies. All tactics and marketing borrowed from other markets.

    At 4:39, actually, it sounds like dendrochronologists just like to pick and choose what data to use that fits their built-in assumptions about tree ring dating. Much like geologists when they date the unknown age of rocks to be millions of years old, and call it a fact, while discarding the age of known rocks, like the samples taken from Mount Saint Helen which were just a few tens of years old, that dated to a range of 380,000 to 3.2 million years old and called the results unreliable or inconclusive. But science always gets it right, right?

    dont forget the olders tree in sweden.. the Old Tjikko;The world’s oldest known living tree sprouted sometime during the last Ice Age, roughly 9,550 years ago. This 16-foot spruce in the Dalarna province of Sweden may look more like a Charlie Brown Christmas Tree, but don’t be fooled: this little guy’s root system got started back when the British Isles were still connected to Europe by an ice bridge. According to Wired, geologist Leif Kullman, who discovered the tree, named it after his dead dog

      I don't think so. You see what I mean right? He shows it at 2:15. You missed the final tie in. Like Adam and eve could have been created as adults, the trees could have been created as fully mature as well. A 12,000 year old tree would merely be evidence that thre flood happened before that (presuming the tree wouldn't have survived the flood) creating a problem for the 6,000 yeast old model

    I think the flood myths around the world and "global flood" stories could easily be word of mouth stories about the ice age. I can see the world covered mostly in ice changed to covered in water over the course of a few hundred generations. People probably thought that ice being everywhere in the hot desert was far fetched and crazy and they changed it to water.

    • @lordsrednuas
      @lordsrednuas 6 лет назад +5

      Most of these flood myths seem more related to local floods of river systems.
      A notable exception being the Australian Aborigines, who's flood myths actually seem to be describing dramatically rising sea levels (which happened several times as the glaciation period came to an end).
      The most recent of which was about 12,000 years ago, the sea level rise that separated the (now) island of Tasmania from the continent and isolated the peoples there.
      Still twice as old as the universe apparently.

    • @lordshipmayhem
      @lordshipmayhem 6 лет назад +4

      Noah's Flood comes into the Jewish tales about the time of the Babylonian Exile, so it seems likely it came from stories there. And while the Babylonians probably got it from one or more of the earlier civilizations, it probably arose from the frequent floods that the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers are prone to having.
      I'm not dismissing the "ice age" conjecture, but given the geography in question, I suspect it's more likely to prove to be some event(s) after the development of agriculture and the resultant rise in permanent settlements..

    • @grahvis
      @grahvis 6 лет назад +5

      Most early human settlements were by rivers so disaster stories would be very likely to be about floods since many people would have experienced them to a certain degree.

    • @Lady8D
      @Lady8D 6 лет назад +5

      Considering relatively fast world wide communication has only been made possible since airplanes were improved enough to fly over the oceans, I'm guessing the flood myths are actually about local floods, hurricanes, etc.

    • @thymelord
      @thymelord 6 лет назад +2

      One possible flood causede by rising sea level is the filling of the Black Sea. During the most recent ice age, the Black Sea was dry. As ice melted and sea level rose, eventually the se level was high enough to pour in and fill the Black Sea in one catastrophic event...
