I am a regular traveller to the US. For the past 7 years, I have been visiting every year and I never heard of or saw food being sold on the plane. What I do know is that they usually give you a snack/meal and a beverage( soda, coffee, juice, or water).

The question about whether food is sold on the plane is quite a complicated one since it varies from airline to airline. I can remember taking KLM and seeing passengers pay for an extra meal or for just some piece of jewelry. I have never seen this happen on an American Airline flight in all the years I have travelled but I wont be surprised if it happens behind some purple moon. Even on United, Delta, and Caribbean Airlines I have never encountered food being vended.
Sure. You can bring along your own food and snacks. Just make sure that the liquids that you bring along are bought at the airport. These must be bought after you go through TSK.

About 4-5 hours depending on what airline you take. Sometimes it’s a bit shorter.
