all functions on the steering wheel makes miles more sense IMO to minimalize interior button clutter than throwing them all into a touchscreen behind menus
being able to customise ur own wheel in a car is acc a really cool thing that i wish car companies would make easier to implement as it is the most handled part of a car. could make auniserval deatachment system like seen in sim wheels
as much as i would love it, safety regulations on cars are an absoulte bitch for electronics and software. it would be simply illegal to use a sim racing wheel on a real car. as steering and shifting (and potentially other controlls that are implemented on the wheel) are features that could potentially harm a person if they fail the regulations are extra strict and development and approval costs absolutely explode. an airbag alone already leads to that. that is the reason why you have no choice. steering wheels without electronics are a whole different story though where you only have to prove material compliance which is comparatively much easier although i think that airbags are mandatory in most countries for series produced vehicles.
