Regarding the Brotherhood, it's important to keep in mind that they aren't a monolith - the Lyons' Brotherhood in FO3 for example were good guys concerned with protecting people. The Maxson-led Brotherhood of FO4 only cared about technology and saw the synths as a threat. The BoS has been shown to have lots of breakaway fiefdoms with their own focuses, aligned by the basic goal of acquiring and controlling technology.

@@Girder3 There are even Vaults that experiment with factions being created. The thought that a post nuke faction would spread nation wide in 200 years and NOT change ideals, or have splinter factions all over the place is laughable. We cant even manage to keep steady ideologies in the real world for 200 years with single factions.

Oh, for sure. BOS has some massive issues, FO3 has the outcasts and main BOS groups and both are at odds with California.
The BoS is a HOT mess and people(wastelanders) need heroes, and they’re easy to turn into a religion…

    • @_Snarky

The show made BoS kinda lame? except the last assault, like they came of as very religious but not strongly devout in the members, it felt like everyone trying to be a squire were picked up from the streets and they joined just for the benefits, also it seemed very corrupt with priests abusing their powers.
but the biggest lame part were the "knights" like the guy we saw that died early, he did not seem devout at all and acted like a street kid instead of someone that trained with discipline.
i just played a bit of each FO game and i saw BoS almost like space marines with how strong they were and the offensive tech they had but after the show, that Brotherhood seems fragmented and very fragile.

Fallout 3 really established that Lyons basically broke away from the original Brotherhood and wanted to actually help people. That said, I wasn't a fan of the way the Brotherhood was portrayed in the show as the tone was all over the place. My take on the early Brotherhood of Steel is that they were basically space marines, they were overly righteous with the mantra "for the greater good" which over time deteriorated to a place where morality was a secondary to any other paradigm. And we killed their leader in the first or second game if i'm not misremembering. and after that with the third game, they were having trouble with recruitment and they started taking anyone. in 4 it's a shell of what they were and they're just idiots in armor.
Does this sound right to anyone with better lore insight?

    • @GBRyker61
      @GBRyker61 Месяц назад +6

I'm not all that familiar with the BoS in FO1 and 2. I do know that the group in FO3 is a completely different group.
Elder Owen Lyons led the group in FO3, and when he saw the issues the residents of the Capital Wasteland(DC) were going through, ie rampant slavery, murderous mercenaries, Super Mutant attacks, etc. Lyons made protecting the people of the CW a priority higher than finding and procuring pre-war tech.
This decision resulted in the High Elders of the West Coast to cut support with Lyons and his East Coast Detachment. This decision also led some members to desert Lyons, calling themselves the Outcast BoS.
The loss of support from the West Coast and desertion of some members forced Lyons to start recruiting ordinary wastelanders.
By the time of Fallout 4, Lyons had passed away. Aurther Maxson, decendant of Roger Maxson, the founder of the Brotherhood of Steel, became Elder and re-established contact with the West Coast.
He re-prioritized finding and procuring pre-war tech as being more important. This decision led the Outcasts to rejoin, but it also had the effect of causing those members that supported Lyons to desert.

      @pinklmaonade Месяц назад +3

@@Dinostra It's been a long time since I played FO1 & 2, so forgive me if I get anything factually incorrect, but my take on the Brotherhood from FO1 is that they were an isolationist faction primarily concerned with scavenging and preserving pre war tech. The Brotherhood was the last salvage of humanity and so they felt like that tech was best left in their hands. When they killed super mutants it's because they were a threat to their safety and because mutants were beneath them, not necessarily for the benefit of other people. It's a subtle distinction and one that paints the Brotherhood in a more neutral light. I think there's a Brotherhood member who even believed that they didn't have to hunt super mutants as they were sterile, so they could simply outlive them. I believe the leadership moved on to a more proactive philosophy after the events in FO1.

It seems most of the conversation on the topic was sidetracked to "hasan said streaming is harder than a regular 9-5 job" and that's not what he said nor meant. People just have a hard-on for hasan hate and that's about it. Just like how a big chunk of the wow community on reddit/social media hate asmongold for most of his wow takes (to which I agree on some) or how people hate on amouranth for the content she does aand then say "if you don't want to get harassed or stalked, then change your content".
People are presented with an actual problem/situation and instead of addressing it and provide solutions, people instead dismiss the point or say "it may be a real thing, but I won't agree with it because the person who says it I dislike, so they don't deserve my empathy nor should anything change or be put in place to fix these issues". Hugely against the idea of any form of tipping.
The way the game development landscape is, with the lack of Union protection, 1 of 2 things would happen.
    1. CEOs pocket the tips through the company as bonuses.
    2. Game developers lose any "Game launch bonuses" (if they got any to begin with), or get a pay-cut as the "tips" would become an excuse that they are over-payed.
Most C-level executives are already bad at handling the Gaming scene as is, without any form of oversight and regulations.
The only time I would consider "tipping", is through donations, and only to small time devs and indies, cause they likely need the money more than any Triple-A company that is already overworking their ground floor employees, while under paying them.
To be honest, if you enjoy something a lot and feel the need to support the developers further, just buy more copies of their games, share them with your friends.

The item's state of repair impacted its damage and defense, so a fully repaired weapon does twice what a near-broken weapon.

I've seen and have participated in tipping a stream after an epic moment or the end of a video game.
Would make sense to be able to tip the devs directly.

Might be out of date, but was always under the impression that software people were very well compensated. The issue was that they had horrendous hours. Kinda comparable to doctors, in that regard.
That said, any kind of game tipping thing would require a 3rd party entity, perhaps even a game-dev union to oversee.
Wouldn't trust a company to do it. A lot of staff leave/laid off once the game ships. A lot of studios close once a game ships.
More ideal (imo) would be unions with some kind of profit-sharing.
To Ezekiel re. buying another copy of the game. That money doesn't go to the devs, it goes to the owners and/or publishers.

The money often goes to the devs if the developer is also the publisher. You know, indie games.

I thought the Vault-Tec stuff was worse than the BoS stuff imo. Was not a fan of the whole Vault-Tec "plan". Felt like the anti-capitalism message was pushed a little too hard and didn't feel like it matched up with the lore of certain characters/organizations. Maybe the second season will change that, idk.

I liked the Fallout show, but I really think the comedy writing fell very short. I enjoyed Johnny Pembertons character, but he's pretty much the only one that made me laugh. A lot of the scenes felt like a kids show trying too hard to be funny without a clever angle. Kinda like a comedian that thinks more loud = more funny.

Hot take, fallout 3 is a really bad game, it plays poorly, looks like a green/brown garbage mess (did so on release too), had a bad ending and a mediocre main plot. Arguably Bethesda's most overrated release. I bet most people like it so much because its manys first entry into the universe which is fair I suppose. Vegas played pretty much equally bad but had a intersting plot line and better writing overall. As for 4, find your kidnapped baby but first settlement tutorial and a wasteland so full of stuff that it feels crowded bordering on claustrophobic completely countering any urgency the story is trying to impose. Plays miles better tho unless you are trying to get walls to snap into place in a corner ofc.
    Peace
