Nissan has redesigned the Titan only once since its 2004 model-year debut, and twice over, it's been mediocre. Just as you might have done, we've ignored the Titan since our last test in 2017. But for 2020, Nissan has responded to our complaints about the Titan with major strides in technology, safety, and overall value-not just among other Titans, but all full-size pickups.
The Titan, like the Toyota Tundra, packs one powerful and delicious-sounding V8 engine that would be an extra-cost option on all the domestic trucks. For 2020, that 5.6-liter V8 puts out 400 horsepower and 413 pound-feet of torque-up 10 hp and 19 lb-ft from 2017-when running on premium gasoline (on 87 octane, you'll lose most of those gains). Combined with a new 9-speed automatic transmission, the Titan flat-out hauls the mail in a straight line and will sign, seal, and deliver you to illicit speeds in no time. The two extra gears and a shorter rear-axle ratio pay dividends in low- and mid-range acceleration, where the old Titan sometimes felt slow to respond. Thank goodness the brakes are equally up to the task of slowing this beast down.
The new Titan's infotainment system offers a night-and-day difference from the old version. A choice of either an 8- or 9-inch touchscreen replaces the ancient-looking, tube TV-style displays of the past. The 9-inch display, which has a sharp, edgeless look like the best computer monitors, is the one to get. It's quicker and much higher in resolution than the old one. Maps can be pinched, custom home-screen menus can be swiped, and the whole system feels modern and intuitive. Both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard with the 9-inch screen. NissanConnect data services bring the usual automatic emergency dialing, stolen vehicle alerts, and remote capabilities to unlock and start the truck (which you can also command via Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, or a smartwatch running the NissanConnect app). Voice searches for points of interest run through Google, and they're quick and accurate. The system will also update itself automatically over the air.

I've owned many pickups over the years and I can tell you, I would never buy a Dodge vehicle again. I own a Titan and it's been good to me for 16 years, ( have the original 04). I've had 150s, Tundras, Jeeps and the only 2trucks I would buy is a Toyota or a Nissan. Take it from an old man.

I would rather have the Titan over the Ram . The Ram will stay in the Shop .
I had a 2016 Ram 1500 and it had many issues. I traded it in on a 2019 Titan SV 4x4 which I love.
I had a 2016 & the transmission was kicking by 18k.

longschloong Bobby Cool. I had a 2003 Frontier crew cab V-6. It was a great truck. I never had an issue with it.
Sorry he is wrong. The Titan is a whole lot cheaper than its competitors. It is the best value truck you can buy. I love my 2017 Pro 4X. Chev, Dodge, Ford and GMC were 20K more than what I paid for my Nissan.
I got a used 2018 pro 4x with only 6,000 miles for $38k while the a basic f-150 XLT with the 2.7 eco boost goes for like $43k. If you want the v8 or the 3.5 and 4x4 you're lookin at $45k and up. The ram 1500's look ugly as fuck too, even the limited edition just looks like a basic city dweller type of truck.
You guys must be bad at looking for trucks or you are quoting msrp pricing. I just bought a 2019 XLT 3.5tt 302a sport crew 4x4 5.5 ft bed fx4 nav tailgate step lane assist for 37k. MSRP was 54.5k. I had to drive 70 miles to get it.
Sergey Melnik it’s all the Jewish salesmen at the dealers around me, they wouldn’t budge below 45k at ford or Nissan when they started at the asking price of 54k
@@WhiteGangster400 The company I work at the builder bought a lariat 501a 3.0 diesel 1 week before me and he payed 46k. He didnt even do a ton of research and searching for the best deal like i did. He just went to the lot and picked one out.

I have a 2018 Nissan Titan SL Midnight Edition, and I found it to be significantly cheaper than any of the top 3. Suggested Retail is one thing but what dealerships are actually moving these for is night and day. I have absolutely no complaints about my titan.

Own a 2019 SV Midnight Edition. Love it. Gray/black look so good together. Best part....still sporting the V8, unlike Toyota who is going to a TT v6 (yuck) for 2021. Also 100k/5yr bumper to bumper.
Great looking front... so sick of the giant stupid chrome grilles on EVERY new truck. Thank god for the designers at Nissan for coming up with something tasteful.

You can get that off and more at Nissan dealerships without even asking.

You can get that truck for mid $30s out the door. I got the 2018 a couple years ago. Great underrated truck.
We just bought a Nissan Titan 2018 SV 4X4 crew cab with 25K miles and its awesome, what's exceptional is the Nissan warranty, you can't get from other.
I bought the 2019 Nissan Titan Pro 4X. It's an awesome truck.
Great truck. It has proven more reliable than the the domestic brands
I have the 2018 crew cab, got it much cheaper than the sticker price. The most underrated truck out there and has a much better warranty to boot!
I have the 2017 XD gas friggin love it ..... only thing I've done is put bilstein Shocks front back for a much better ride and the front ones gave 2 inches of height leveling the truck out ,,,, I clearly dont know what people want in a truck with all the hair splitting comments from people that ride the coat tails of negativity ..... this truck is as smooth as a car driving and capable of off road and hauling.
I just got my 2020 Titan Monday and so far I'm loving it. These trucks are comfortable, and very spacious inside and the V8 engine delivers on the horsepower! I am pleased with my decision to purchase a Titan. Nissan rocks! 👍😎👍

Yeah, RAM knocked it out of the park with their latest truck. Titan updates keep it hanging in there. I like it more than Chevy and Toyota but recognize Ford/Dodge are leading the pack (imo).
Owned a 2004 Titan 4X4 King Cab with tow package. Loved it but got pretty poor mileage - 13mpg in town. Out on the highway and all across Colorado mountains, it was a dream to drive.
Kenny Bunker ... I owned one as well, great truck, drove it into the ground after 10 years of using it as a work truck with basic maintenance. Pleasure to drive, exhaust sounded amazing, your right gas was terrible.
Kenny, I too owned a first gen Titan. I now own a 2016 Titan. Two completely different drivetrains. This new truck is a fat, lazy layup compared to my 2004.
Love my Titan I have owned 4 of them starting in 05 I now have a 18 and love it never had a problem out of any of them my neighbors have fords or Dodge and I have given them rides to the dealer to get theirs out of the shop ! I am looking forward to getting a 2020 in a few months when they get more of them on the lots and want to move them !

The 5.0 liter Cummins is no more in the XD. Starting for 2020 models.
And that's a good thing. I owned a 2016 with the Cummins and it was a terrible engine.
The 5.0 was the worst engine Cummins ever released. They are only good at inline 6 engines
Better off with Nissan's 5.6
I have the 16 with the Cummins. Fantastic engine for towing. Been flawless.

It’s a 1/2 ton truck, whether it’s GM, Ford, Ram, Tundra or Titan, they are all good for basic work truck duties.
Real truck work belongs to the 3/4 and 1 ton truck like the Chevy 3500 or F350.
1/2 ton trucks are fine for the DIY homeowner who has basic projects around the house.
5.5 foot bed and workhorse don't really go together.
Nice truck if they discount it. It needs to be cheaper than the others.
Love the new dash and electronics, and of course the V8!! The exhaust sound great too.
Why does it need to be cheaper? It has the same upgrades as other trucks. The Titan also has a bigger engine than most of the competition.

The tie downs work but they stick out two far with a full load of stuff you better have your straps on before loading. Same tie downs the frontier has
Looks so much better but to your point, still anonymous. Personally I'd much rather have this over the F150 but I'm not there target audience. I'm not loyal to a brand. The NA V8 sounds great as well
You can get one of this for 40k $. Nissan is discounting them strongly otherwise nobody would buy them

Not a very good review. He literally said it's not leaving the packing anyway. Then goes on to mention best-in-class warranty. Also has best-in-class power best-in-class standard safety features. And it always works.
Looks 100% better with the painted grille instead of all that chrome.
If you're listening Nissan, market this truck and it will sell! Something you failed to do since it was first produced back in 2004.
I’d be happy if titan became its own brand and drops the Nissan company even if it’s still under the Nissan umbrella.

If adaptive cruise control is a must-have, it's way cheaper than any of the big 3 domestics. To get ACC on those, you have to get the luxury trim (lariat/laramie,ltz/slt) and those include a lot of extra unnecessary luxury items like leather, dual climate, awd (instead of 4hi) etc. which easily can top $60k. Only thing that sucks about the titan is the gas mileage, but tundra is even worse.
Hopefully can get a 2016-2019 SL or up for under 27k then. These things just sit. and Nissan sales are DOWN

As you now know, the 2020 Titan XD no longer has the Cummins turbo diesel option.
The 5.6 was plagued with cylinder 7 meltdown issues. It’s unfortunately cause it seems to effect a lot of the 17-19 titans
I like what they have done, and love Titans, but they honestly have the worst resale value, I will wait another year and grab a used 2020 with low miles for much less
The 400 horsepower is only with 91 fuel. The estimate of 17 mpg is too low as the the 9 speed transmission will improve the mpgs. You should write estimated mpg to be fair.
Ram is not the best you can currently buy. The addition of “MDS” to the tuning of the hemi was just damaging. FCA also still has not done an adequate job with the t/e or r/d aspect of cylinder deactivation. GM has done much better. I would take a titan over the ram, even though the ram is a very aesthetically pleasing truck and the interior is bar none, i would rather a solid drivetrain that is always a v8....not just when the ecu says it is.
New improvements are much better for the Titan. They are great trucks sad so underrated while Tundra is the best take this over Tundra maybe when year nearly closed to the end since 2020s are better might be rating closed with Tundra and F150.
The 1980s wants that Benetton sweater back along with this review filled with errors.
So a few massive points glossed over/missed here. That hp rating is on premium, it has the same as last years on regular. The tow rating is a ton (literally) lower than pretty much every competitor. Also the payload is equally lower than the competition. Nissan needs to make a heavy duty truck to compete with the capabilities of the american half tons. Speaking of the xd, it doesnt have the turbodiesel anymore, it was a bad engine and nissan axed it for 2020. And the loss of the regular cab was because of how little it sold, it just didnt justify production.
The only thing the titan really has going for it is a big V8 garuntee, but a good diesel would be much welcome if Nissan got off their ass.

10 years form now Titan will be working fine the big 3 garbage will be either in the shop or you'll have to buy a new one.

I don't care how capable a Chrysler product might be, the the bottom line is, they are the most unreliable vehicles made; this is based on my own experience and available data you must research yourself, if you plan to buy one!
Why can't they have the back doors open regular like the front . It's such a hassle opening both doors just to get to the back.
They do make a crew cab with 4 full doors.

I've had a 14, 16XD Cummins, and now a 21. Best truck on the market and reliable. Not to mention now the warranty! ...and let's not forget AMERICAN design, AMERICAN built, with AMERICAN parts! Something the big 3 "American " trucks can't say. Funny how RAM (Fiat) is still considered American yet Nissan isn't. Go Titan and you'll never go back

Hello everyone I’m Nissan guy 100% I was having a Nissan Frontier 2014 sv 4x4 I buy the truck Brad new and I paid off the truck and traded in for 2018 Nissan Titan SL 4x4 with 45000 miles after my new frontier I Decided to save money and get used truck , after second week my engine light come on and the seatbelt light on I took the truck to the dealership ( Houston tx sterling McCall Nissan ) and the dealership tell my that the problem was a vacuum system and then a sensor so they tell me that my truck was not under warranty in this parts so I asked to speak with the manager I spoke with the manager and he tell me that, bumper to bumper 100,000 miles warranty was street term and all the parts has different warranty after Long discussion he decided to help me with the total cost of the parts but I’m disagree because like I said I’m Nissan guy but after this I don’t know if I will be able to buy another one Nissan
Longevity it would bring issues... Nissan is suffering right now ... Nissan and Ram (and all under its umbrella) suck in reliability ...
Other than the 12 inch screen the Ram sucks.

titan has similar reliability but 3-4 better mpg. makes a difference when towing/hauling. just something to consider.
It's a good truck, but it's still not as good as the Ram or F150 and 1600lb. payload is pretty weak for a full size truck.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why the Titan is currently the worst-selling truck in America. Nissan is going after the wrong market, imo, they should have kept the regular cab fleet truck and killed off all the other configurations. The single cab, long bed Titan arguably offered the most bang for your buck among other regular-cab work trucks, being the only one you could buy with a v8 engine for under 30g msrp, and other manufacturers are leaving this pickup segment, leaving a vacuum. Wise business practice is to find a gap in the market and focus on it with a strong product, rather than trying to cram yourself into the most hotly contested part of the market with a mediocre product.
My 2013 sv 4x4 cc and my 2017 sv 4x4 leveled cc are two hellava trucks. Never will buy anything else.

The only thing that I don't like and hated the most on this new Titan? Is the damn stupid dumbass push button keyless ignition! It's so stupid! When that thing breaks that ignition will cost a lot more to repair than having an oil change! But overall the truck is solid! Old traditional Fully Boxed Steel Frame Chassis compare to the Ford F-150's crap Aluminum chassis. The truck is solid and 400hp is a lot for Utilitarian usages. Nissan Titan is a Tool so does the Toyota Tundra but the Ford raptor is nothing but a toy came from the toy box. And for the Record! I don't like the Diesel Version of this Titan! The engine is still new I bet Nissan haven't completed the long term inspection and observations on the Cummins 5.0L V8 Diesel Engine and yet Nissan rushed in to put the powertrain into the production, I'm hearing a lot of Titan guys complains about their Diesel Titan. Plus! The Diesel Titan lacks of Engine Braking system. So I figured why not just stick to the original gas V8's 5.6L instead! it's been a proven and reliable engine since its first generation of Titan.

Because it's an awesome truck. I still have my 2007 Titan with over 116,000 miles running strong. My buddy has a 2006 Titan with 256,000 miles and it's running strong..you can't say that about Ford or GM.. LOL SIT DOWN SON!

Mysterious Stranger From Arizona I’ve always owned RAM and I have to say never really had an issue that would warrant me reconsidering a brand change.... I guess my biggest complaint has to be how expensive they have gotten and how ridiculous the opinion list is, it’s hard to get the one that you really want.... in any event I will check out the new Nissan and the new Tundra when ever it comes out....
