Just got one. I also have a Miata and I can’t say the yj is more fun to drive because u can’t compare apples and steak but I can tell you the thing rides like a super light tank. Feels solid super simple and mechanical and has the best “corks and features” highly recommend it. Keep in mind gas mileage is dogshit tho
Thank you for sharing this video. I recently picked up a 1995 Jeep Wrangler YJ to learn how to drive a manual transmission. Mine is the 2.5 Liter 4 cylinder 5 speed. I watched your video before and after purchase along with some other instructional videos. It's been a remarkably forgivable and easy vehicle to learn on which I am very thankful for.
God I'm so ready to get mine back on the road. Something about a jeep man. Idk about the new ones but, tj and older I always get this feeling and thought in my head. "Fuck yeah I'm in a jeep baby."
The thing to keep in mind is on the Jeep, at least this one, when I'm driving it I'm not using any engine braking or even really downshifting at all, which is generally fine.
Yea I noticed you just go to nuetral when you want to brake. And you pop back in first to do it all over again, then a quick shift to 2nd. Am I missing anything else that are unique to these jeeps while driving ?
I don't think you're missing anything. The gearing on the Jeep is for off-roading, so 1st gear really only gets it started moving forward, and then 2nt starts "accelerating" the Jeep. I don't run the Jeep through the rev range, the torque is on the low end of the rev range, I actually shift the Jeep up around 2,500 RPM, the recommended Jeep/Eagle shift point is even lower! All vehicles are different though, and people are different.
It depends on the vehicle and how you're using it. This 2.5l Jeep needs to be wrung out to get up hills, lol, but mainly my shifting is based on the manufacturer's recommendation and the little shift light on the dash. The shift light doesn't work anymore, maybe one day I'll get it working. The user manuals for cars will often make recommendations for shift points for fuel economy or performance. There's no chance of fuel economy on this Jeep though!
Real Jeeps have leaf springs and wipers that stop like this [ \ \ ]. I have an 06 Rubicon and a 90 Sahara, the YJ is getting rebuilt from the ground up with 38s on 1-tons, SOA, SRS, built OM617, and built 700R4. Not sure about the transfer case yet. It’ll be for serious shit as opposed to the Rubicon toy.
It’ll drive fine but I could almost guarantee that your heater core will go out and it’s a pain to put one in also water will somehow find it’s way into your Jeep lol
I have a 93 YJ, 2" lift with new Falken Wildpeak 31" tires. It's pretty much un-freaking-stoppable in the snow. It's loud, bumpy, uncomfortable and I Love it!
Touch the brakes on ice and you spin. Give it gas on ice and you spin. Studded tires are your friend. Definitely go with a hardtop if possible if you get a lot of snow. Despite their negatives, there truly is nothing like a Jeep. The people who deny that have something crucial missing from their souls.
Thanks. It's just a GoPro Hero+ set on 1080p, 60fps. The difference is that this is the raw video right out of the camera without editing and rendering.
Yeah it fell off, then I stuck it back on again, and it fell off yet again. I had a rearview most of the summer, but as soon as the weather got a little cooler I knocked it off again bumping it while putting the top back on. It gives a better view of the sky.
Wow that was really ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
The inside of that jeep looks so delightfully barebones and simple. I want one so bad.

I bought a new 1989 Jeep YJ Islander with straight six and 5 speed in September 1988. I have a 2015 Rubicon and 1969 CJ5 currently.
awesome !
Damn, I wish my interior looked that nice. My yj has a bit of work ahead of it to get looking like that. Stunning, absolutely stunning.
RUclips needs more yj pov videos ;)
I think so too
I agree!!!
thank u so much. im learning to drive manual and its so informitave and helpful to see your shifting patterns in different scenarios.

Ive been waiting to shift way too long into the rev. Thanks for the tip

Built like a tank, rides like a tank 😂
a big thank you for this pov video. i needed that...:) ...lol
best jeep cockpit ever.
great video amigo very enjoyable 8 min of pleasure and knowing the city //
I'm probably going buy an 89 yj with a soft top and the half doors, how do you think it would be in the rain and snow?
It’ll drive fine but I could almost guarantee that your heater core will go out and it’s a pain to put one in also water will somehow find it’s way into your Jeep lol
Hard top over all, owned a yj for 5 years

I saw that jeep stare don’t try and hide it lol
What is the name of that rectangular device on the board?
Inclinometer
Nice video 👍 I have 1991 YJ very strong motors
Mine is the exact same it seems. Mine has a 4 cylinder in it. A fine car when it actually works lol, but unfortunately mine doesn't do that
Nice video! What camera are you using here? The resolution is really good.
Thanks. It's just a GoPro Hero+ set on 1080p, 60fps. The difference is that this is the raw video right out of the camera without editing and rendering.
I noticed you don't have a rear view mirror nor a right door mirror. Is there a reason? Also how dry does it remain inside when it rains?
It fell off, it also fell off, and it does not remain dry inside when it rains, there are holes in the floor for the water to drain out.
is the 6cyl or 4cyl? Great video tho!!! :)
Sounds like a 4, but don't quote me on it. But I am pretty sure it's a 4
What Is the name of this jeep? I have one but find no parts for it because idk the name
Jeep Wrangler YJ I'm not entirely sure your question.
How tf do you buy a car and not know the name of it
Thank you for posting!
More of these videos!
My 1992 YJ 4yl is much noisier. Did you do some sound deadening and if so what?
the jeep might be a 4 cylinder, he had a soft top so if it was the straight 6 it would've been way loader
I have the exact same Jeep !!! Same version same color !!!!!
Is this your daily driver?
Should I get a Yj or Tj guys ? I really like the Yj interior gages but let me know
What year is this Jeep?
1989

@@JDLesemajeste lol mine fell off the other day on my YJ
What is the poping and clunking sound when you shift?
That's the clutch pedal hitting the metal floor. There's no carpet so it just knocks on the metal.
I like your description
That beast not made for the city
cherokee steering wheel and no rear view mirror
