A brilliant song that I'd sort of forgotten about until listening to it last week in advance of you getting to it. I'm really not sure why it isn't in my best of playlist. I am rectifying that now!
And this part "...when all my birds have flown awaaaaaaaaay" - is up there with some of the best a-ha songs ever, like Out of Blue Comes Green and Stay On These Roads etc. THAT sort of caliber!
Moment magique, comme si la voix de Morten s'envolait vers la stratosphère... 🌬🎶 Magical moment, as if Morten's voice was flying into the stratosphere. 😉🎶
This is a favourite of mine. I always saw the first verse as being about mother nature. The second verse being about humanity on earth. As Matt suggested that the outcome is that nature dies and even it goes to a happy place or not, it's gone. "There will be no sadder day, when all the birds have flown away" I concur.
It possibly has a dual meaning as it was written after Pal's Mother-in-law died. The lyrics talk about a decline, and finding things harder than before so it also works as a metaphor for Mother Earth's struggles with pollution etc. And I agree on the Depeche Mode sound. It's another great track on a really strong album.
I had forgotten I really liked this one, too. As I said before, it's been a few years since I listened to this album. Sometimes when we listen to music we are not really paying attention (I mean, not 100% focused), listening with you has that advantage of making us focus on the music and often we notice different things and hear it differently. 😉 This one falls into that category (for me) of the songs I never really understood the lyrics and never tried. 😁 I had never thought of your interpretation of Mother Nature dying. I never understood the title and in fact it sounded awkward, but who cares? Not me! 😂 As long as Morten is singing, words are just sounds, and such wonderful sounds! 🥰
I couldn't agree more, and I mean your entire comment. Interesting thought that it's about nature dying, but the fact that the song was written after Pål's mother in law died gave me a whole new understanding of it.
Yeah this one is a favourite on the album. It manages to be both dramatic and hold a slight tension while not scaling the heights that we know he's capable of vocally. It's a testament to the songwriting.
In 2016, Norsk Hydro recorded an a-ha concert in Oslo in Virtual Reality (VR) 360 video. All the songs are available on Norsk Hydro's RUclips, including this one, as well as a video where they explain the concept. Of course, the pictures are strange if you see them on a normal screen. I'd like to think it's one of the best concerts available from recent years in terms of technical quality, and since the band knew it was being recorded they surely have tightened up, so the music is also good - at least good enough for my ears. ruclips.net/video/vDh-4ySTC7I/видео.html
I know you brain blow on A ha song in positeve wave. A ha is uniq and best band in the world! Thank you to bee part of us who A ha listening whole life!
Hi Matt and Lukka, Given Morten’s strong interest in nature one would assume this was written by him but it was written by Pal. Like many of the songs that Pal has written for A-HA there was a more emotional layer below it’s earthy surface. The song had been written in the wake of his mother in law’s death. The song wasn’t performed during the foot of the mountain tour but the cast in steel tour instead. Another great track by A-HA. Only they could deliver a song like this. Curious of your thoughts Matt? Take care 😘❤️🇳🇴❤️🏴🇺🇸
Thanks for the info about the background story about the lyrics. It immediately gave new meaning to the whole song for me, especially considering that my own mother died not too long ago. Since the lyrics are important to my connection the songs, I have now gained a new relationship with it. Next time I will listen to the song with new understanding.
What a album!
I really like this track…with its nod to how as humans we are not properly looking after nature and the environment…at least that’s my take on it. Love the orchestration and Morten’s soaring vocals!
"Mother Nature Goes To Heaven" Wrong You never got it wrong You always got it right But now some time has passed You're ever so slightly off Thing you could do asleep In a not too distant past Are trying your patience Harder now And though Everything moves along You hope the rumor's wrong That Mother Nature Goes to heaven Right You never got it right It always got away When you had it nailed It was ever so slightly off Sending you somewhere else Than where you had to be Making it that much Harder now And though You're struggling to get on track It pales somewhat to the fact That Mother Nature goes to heaven And there will be no sadder day When all the birds Have flown away
Not a bad song at all, lots to like about it … I do have a slight problem, and it is a bit nitpicking, but i’ve always had an issue with the “clumsiness” of the way the wording of title (the syllables in ‘Heaven’) is sung. Just my honest opinion, please don’t shoot me down 🥴
It is one of Pål's signatures that he takes parts of the song in a different direction than you expect. He does the same with parts of Hunting High and Low, and probably parts of other songs as well.

When I find the time, I always follow your analisis about A-ha song.
Great body of work!
A-ha must always be listened to loudly, otherwise you miss the base, the base is the heart.
Agreed completely, so perfectly said.
Interesting advice. For more than 25 years, I always focused on Morten's voice and the lyrics hahaha but it is true that they also have a base!
Listening to the music at high volume takes it to another level, no doubt.
And this part "...when all my birds have flown awaaaaaaaaay" - is up there with some of the best a-ha songs ever, like Out of Blue Comes Green and Stay On These Roads etc. THAT sort of caliber!
Love at 4:25 ...

This track really aged well! It was so awesome to hear it again! Been a while. Love it!
That's a great song

Lembrando também a poesia no início do clip de "Lifelines. Prévias de um conceito concretizado em "True North".
@@pedrogappalli4489 In the Lifelines clip, when i read the word 'afterglow'... so powerful.

I found the lyrics. Yes, very sweet if written for his Mother in Law. ❤

I believe this song lyric is a descriptive of someone going through a dementia like Alzheimer's. JMO
I just read the lyrics and could totally see that.
Depeche mode is a band A-ha have always admired their work so I think the music is similar to them. Stay safe Matt. 😘❤️🇳🇴❤️🏴🇺🇸

In other words; This should've been a single....the way Out of Blue Comes Green should've been a single. In fact, this the OOBCG of this album.

I agree that base line is ripped from DM - Violator era
Best track of the album isn't it? I am recording a vocal cover of this one. A real gem.
"Mother Nature Goes To Heaven"
Wrong
You never got it wrong
You always got it right
But now some time has passed
You're ever so slightly off
Thing you could do asleep
In a not too distant past
Are trying your patience
Harder now
And though
Everything moves along
You hope the rumor's wrong
That Mother Nature
Goes to heaven
Right
You never got it right
It always got away
When you had it nailed
It was ever so slightly off
Sending you somewhere else
Than where you had to be
Making it that much
Harder now
And though
You're struggling to get on track
It pales somewhat to the fact
That Mother Nature goes to heaven
And there will be no sadder day
When all the birds
Have flown away
