Mannnnn when you mentioned people behind their booth just sitting there and won't say anything or just sittin there on their phone in another world, I can SO relate to that cause I saw this many times at the Cowtown Comicon I was last at. I was like "Welp..they aint sellin nothin today.."
Thanks Shannon! This is fantastic. In the process of starting an online comic book company and your videos have been super helpful and inspiring. Biggest takeaway, it’s a marathon and persistence is key! Keep them coming 🙏🏾
DANG,Shannon you're not messing around, hoss. LOL. GREAT info and stories too,had to watch this video several times I was so impressed.Keep on your business and look forward for more videos.
Hello..thanks for the uhh advice...buh I wanna ask...I don't have the money to print the physical copy buh I have for ads and marketing like to pay fb influencers does it cover the sales part and is it a good idea??
@@Divines_Game_Station I can't tell you how to spend your money, but I would print some comics (even just a small run) then promote those with ads. You can print as little as one comic.
You've been a great inspiration to me! I've been doing comics for years however I just printed my first official one last month. Not sure if I want to make a living at it but its great just to get the work out there for now. I know you will continue to inspire me.
That is awesome! So happy to hear that. Just take some steps, assess. and see how it feels. You might be able to still do it and make good part time money on the side, or just a hobby. There is no right or wrong answer. Only getting what you want out of it.
This is something I've had to overcome mostly this year as I release my third comic book. I've only now started to break even or profit from conventions because I stopped just sitting and waiting for people to talk to me while I scrolled on my phone or something. I'm far from the siding and gutter salesmen yelling at every person they see to come fill out a form or spin a prize wheel lol but I'm at least striking up conversations. Salesmanship is what I hate the most so it's been hard to perfect my elevator pitches, take opportunities, and grow my network. Videos like this are so important for creators new and old cus I've met folks trying to run whole publishing companies who won't go to conventions or pay to promote social media posts or do anything to push books then sit around and complain that nothing sells.
Thank you for this information I been looking for it for a long time I have so many characters and the writing and art talent just not the organization
I know what you mean. I have had several people say the same thing. They know how to create great work, but effectively getting to the market place so they can make money at it was the challenge. Best of luck.
I'll ad to the selling part in conventions one thing: get yourself a QR code for the customers to scan. That way, even if they not buy your book, they can still follow you and get to know yor work and build your brand.
I really do appreciate your videos. I only found you after I got tired 😫 of it all. I was always willing to support and I got burned a few times looking for an alternative. I am going to put my most recent out there. I showed support to an independent creator. His comic was Marcus Manning. I bought it to show my support since comics seem to be recycled over and over. When I got the comic, it was not my cut of tea to the point where I decided to do my own and that is how I stumbled onto your videos on how to print comics. I'm in it for the long haul and hope I get sales. Right now thinking about treating it like a business. Going to do a few things online and focus on doing presentations in my local city. I am at the penciling phase and moving on to inking. I had no idea you had a comic and did a film 😮 I am terrible at marketing and advertising also 😢
Remember this is a marathon. It is inevitable that things will not always go the way you want them, This happens to literally everybody who gets into this business. The videos I am making hopefully will help make the problems that arise less frequent and not as bad. You will be uncomfortable at times, Get comfortable with being uncomfortable. In the end, for me, it has been absolutely worth it.
@@snewbyfilmmaker Thank you believe me I feel uncomfortable starting but not uncomfortable enough to not push forward. We need heroes that look like us...
I promised myself I am going to work on my manga for 10 years and see where it goes. Hope i can get enough to actaully live off it at least soon. Thanks for the wise words!
I would... but I have never run a successful kickstarter campaign. All the videos I do are my real life experiences, so I wouldn't want to do a video on what I think should work. Hopefully I will success with kickstarter the next time I try it.
What I’m deeply interested in at this point is finding an indi comic distribution company. I have finished the material, and connected with a printing company, but need a company to help melt me distribute them. Do you have any leads? Selling them at my shows doesn’t cut it
The main comic book distributor is Diamond. It is possible to get in their catalog to distribute your books, but you also have to do quite a bit of marketing to get the attention of the comic book store owners and convince them to take a chance on stocking your book. Look up Diamond distribution to starting getting insight.
Hey what’s the page count for each volume.. I’m asking because I’m also trying to start my own indie comics business but I’m not positive on how much to sale each full color book based off page count
For my graphic novel Munch Volume 1. It is 3 issues. Issue 1 is 27 pages. Issue 2 is 26 pages, and issue 3 22 pages. There are 5 other business pages in the book. Watch my video on printing tips. I think it will help you out. ruclips.net/video/m3oEJUJcbwA/видео.html
You can work as a sole proprietor. Incorporating a business is about protecting your personal assets if something should go wrong. The EIN is a tax number so you are not using your social security number for business situations when it is needed.
Hey sir my mom actuality still has that vhs tape Is how i found you because i wanted to know how you became a big stream actor but when i seen you make comics Dude im homeless live in my jeep and have over 5 or 6 different series of comics and willing to travel and sale my work but i don't have social media or a home
I'm sorry you are going through a rough time. What's most important is getting yourself stable. If you want to make comics while you are getting stable, I would suggest doing 6 to 8 page books that you can create yourself and find some money to make copies and sell them everywhere you go.
Can you school me real quick Shannon... approx. $5 per floppy to print, approx $5 for the isbn #... bro how do you make money on that selling the floppy for $4-6... I'm missing something here??? 🤔
To make a profit its all about volume. In the scenario you described you can't make a profit. I did talk about that in the last video because I got too far in the weeds with it so I cut it out. I have a video I'm doing on price points that explains realistic costs and profits. Also remember, once you assign a barcode to a book you can sell millions of copies on that one barcode. Its not one barcode for every copy.
@@snewbyfilmmaker AHHH, so all the copies of Munch (floppy) #1 runs under the same bar code? So you could've just bought ONE barcode if you chose too? You're the best 👏!
