Jack was a genius when it comes to the design of the monsters. The Frankenstein Creature is a prime example of that. The Mummy is epic, although Karloff said the only main complaint was he didn't put a fly in the design. The Bride is a classic. Beautiful, with a hint of monster with the stitches under the neck. The Wolf man and the 1935 Werewolf of London are chilling as the actors faces retain mobility allowing for expressions to make them horrifying. Some overlooked classics include Paula the Ape Woman and The Mad Ghoul. Also his first job was giving Conrad Veidt a death's head smile in the 1927 melodrama THE MAN WHO LAUGHS, which the visual look helped inspired the classic Batman villain The Joker. A man who sadly did not progress with the times which led to his dismissal from Universal. But he is one of the people who have given us the classic monsters we all know and love.
I remember when I went to study makeup after high school and they had us subscribe to a magazine. The first issue I got had the Mike Hill Jack Pierce and Boris Karloff statues on the cover. And that was my gateway. So grateful for that magazine which I still have to this day about 12 years later lol It changed my life.
19:25 The fact that you got the Dracula actor so excited by mentioning Jack Pierce that he went out of character to his normal voice. That’s pretty cool!! 😎😎😎👍👍👍🧛♂️🧛♂️🧛♂️
I really enjoyed coming along with you guys for this one. Your shooting/editing style feels like I'm right there with you guys. I've been very sick the past few days and I've been using your extensive video library to help me recover and get back on my feet. I appreciate everything you guys do! 💥
I like to watch Svengoolie on ME-TV on Saturday evenings and Svengoolie (Rich Koz) really admired Jack Pierce. The guy was a genius when it came to makeup etc. of this sort for all the different types of monsters during the 1930's-1940's...........Thank guys as always.
Great vid guy's,James Whale was born in my hometown of Dudley West Midlands England. Our 11th century castle was said to be his inspiration for Castle Frankenstein.Keep up the good work.
@7:22 the overcast clouds make the shadows so light that it looks like a green screen shot, ( it’s not green screen of course, but it’s a cool real time illusion)
This video was spectacular. I'm such a horror fan of the original monsters from universal. I grew up watching them when I was 5 years old now I'm much older. LOL. Loved seeing the monsters. Love seeing you and Jessica interact with them. This video was totally awesome. Thank you for doing this
Jack Pierce and Lon Chaney were the Tom Savini's of the 30's. It's odd how ungraciously he was fired by Universal in the end, his work put them on the map as a major film studio chain.
I have been a subscriber of your channel for a while now and always enjoy your videos/content. I am currently fighting a severe case of the virus Shingles. It's miserable and very painful. I just wanted to say that you two always put a smile on my face with your cool and interesting adventures. They make me feel better! I also notice and love that you take the time to read and comment on your fan's comments as you have with my own. This is awesome. There are other channel's out there that do similar content but rarely interact with their subscribers. Thank you both for taking the time to actually read and respond to comments. I feel this interaction with subscribers is the key to a You Tube channels success and longevity. Loved the video. Lon Chaney paved the way for horror films today. Thanks again for being awesome!
So cool seeing the grave and learning more aboutJack Pierce!! Love Frankensteins monster (my favorite) and all things Universal Monster!!! I Truly hope you guys get your parking spot!! 🎃🙏🏽😎🧛♂️
Another great grim life collective adventure Love the classic monsters love your checker vans love Jessica hair Just love you guys keep up the good work
Jack Pierce was brilliant. Before Rick Baker, before Dick Smith there was Jack Pierce. It's fitting that Jack worked with the greats- Lon Chaney, Boris, Bela...thank you for the great video!
The actors portraying the monsters were great. Love how engaging and interactive they were. I want to go on the Universal lot now. Take the tour, meet the monsters lol Jack Pierce was a master of his craft. There will never be another like him. So dedicated to the old ways, so meticulous and professionally focused on producing the perfect monster. Like Jessica, I've been drawn to the Wolfman since childhood. Not sure if it's because of the monster aspect or if it was more Lon Chaney Jr's charisma and charm, but whatever it is, I still to this day love the Wolfman. And of course who doesn't love Bela Lugosi and Dracula?
Also, when I see these posters, they truly are a work of art. I strongly believe these should be displayed in a gallery, alongside other great movie posters. It's art, and a part of movie history
I catch myself watching multiple videos from you guys everyday since I discovered your channel! Absolutely love what you do and the time that you put into each and every video. You and Jessica make a wonderful duo 🖤
Definitely Jack Pierce Was One Of The Most Incredible Make-Up Artist In History …. And …. Me Too … The Wolf Man is One Of My Favorites Too - Thanks for your video •
I am envious of Jessica's wardrobe... 🖤💚 I love old monster movies, but don't know very much about the people who were behind the scenes, so this was very interesting - thanks, you two!! 🎃😈💀
Great video. Visiting the grave of a genius, a stubborn genius by the sounds of it but that's not unusual. That American Werewolf-ish model at Universal looked like it had been on the set of Antlers! Lovely dress Jessica and great flash of a tatt Michael.
Universal monsters are definitely classics . Many have been replicated. The creature from the Black Lagoon is my favorite for so many reasons. But mostly because it’s imaginary is locked in & says 1950’s. It’s eternally vintage & will probably stay that way forever. Love universal. You guys are the best. Enjoy watching your horror business. Your season is coming.
That was a really fun video. Loved the monsters and jack pierce info. The old movies back in the 30's we're classics and still are ❤️ gotta love old horror🎃.
Grimms family!!! 🖤 this is so awesome! The details and time you guys put into these videos, the small clips! I’m being educated and entertained at the same time? We don’t deserve y’all 🖤🖤🖤😭🥹🫶🏼
Loved the tour at Universal and that you were able to get Frankenstein's monster and the Bride of Frankebstein to pose with you. And also Dracula, a handsome devil 😈 but not as handsome as our guide! HA! HA! HA! The statue in the water feature paled in comparison to your own fair lady. Lovely to see her with you ❤️
Awesome video I grew up watching these movies as I was a kid. And now hearing this video and what happened behind the scenes with the makeup and everything that was a pure genius
I visited the Studios this summer on my US-Vacation and I really loved the interactivity of the monsters. "My" Dracula recognized that I come from germany and he told about european blood and the fact that german blood tastes the best: Sauerkraut-flavor! Absolutely great and THANK YOU for this and all the other great videos - I hoped to see you somewhere on my trip, but unfortunately our paths didn't cross!
These two kill it with videos! Great chemistry, informative narration, clean editing, and creative content. Grimm deserves to hit a million subscribers.
I don't like seeing graves with no flowers or trinkets, I know some cemeteries don't allow them in certain sections, but it just looks so bare. Another great video as always ❤️
Watched this again, lol. I love this story because I am a lover of classic horror, as well as odd-ball characters that I feel deserve to be recognized. Never heard or knew of Jack Pierce until you presented this....THANK YOU. Maila Nurmi, aka, Vampira...Bela Lugosi, Ed Wood, Tor Johnson....all these people are the type I would hang out with and call friends. Jack Pierce would fit this group I feel. Thank you again
Jack Pierce's brutal monster make-up techniques oddly fit in very well with the horror genre lol But yes I like all the universal monsters but its the wolfman that still stands up a bit more for me which is why I really liked The Wolfman 2010 version as it seemed like a tribute to original one also . Anyway another gem of a educational video from the Grimm Life Collective University
Thanks for these MUFX vlogs lately, I really, really enjoy these! It would be very cool if you folks did an extensive vlog about Lon Chaney Sr. Just think of how Jack Pierce did those iconic makeups, it's called build-ups, layer by layer. No prosthetics. Sadly his technique was his eventual downfall from the industry. Supposedly he refused to change with the times and grasp onto the new prosthetic tech. Thank you for your hard work! Keep it up!
Anyone who grew up here in the Philadelphia area in the early 70's will probably.. remember the "Dr SHOCK" show. Late Saturday night. ALL the great monster movies! Remember "Baby SHOCK"?! 😄
I'll say it again you guys have the coolest job in the history of jobs ! Unbelievable the things you all get to see ! Obviously your passion and you figured a way to make a living out of it ! Love you 2 ... can't wait to see what you got up for HALLOWEEN!!!!
Probably my new favorite video. You guys are so awesome! I wish Universal had more of a shrine for the monsters. I feel like they're what made it from the beginning. Happy Halloween guys and best wishes!🖤🕸🎃
You & Jess are Frankenstein and she’s the Bride, Love the tattoo Micheal! Your universal is way more sick than ours! We are so jelly! You guys are awesome! Thanks for another great video! Happy Halloween!💚🖤🎃
This was excellently done and fun to tag along on this adventure, also have to say you and Jessica just compliment each other. Always look forward to your next video. Happy Halloween 🎃
Both Lon and Jack were great innovators of their time, take the hunchback for Lon: Lon had to wear a prosthetic hump on his back with a harness to he couldn't stand up all the way, also for the makeup in the mummy: Karloff had to sit in a makeup chair for 8 hours to create the look of Imhotep based on the actual mummy of Ramses III. Now these days makeup of this similar caliber is still being used to this day in both independent media/indie movies and haunted attractions/Halloween events including Halloween Horror Nights.
What a wonderful video!! So much history you include in your adventures and you have me wanting to dive in to the makeup aspect. I've seen other horror makeup vids you've done and it is incredibly interesting. Thank for sharing your jaunts with us, especially the Halloween material!
Jack pierce was a legend for what he did back in the day so iconic and those films are still loved today. That werewolf display was the American werewolf I believe. Lovely video by the way always entertaining to watch🇬🇧
Thank you for recognizing Jack Pierce. He truly was ground breaking in the horror makeup field
Fascinating! I grew up on the very old horror films, my dad loved them I'd pretend I wasn't scared so I could stay up with him. Loved Boris Karloff
I love all the classic movies of universal
I love the classics. Nothing today can compare.
I so agree.
Give me the black and white classics anytime.
Jack was a genius when it comes to the design of the monsters. The Frankenstein Creature is a prime example of that. YES HE WAS! He was BEYOND AMAZING! Him and the Late Great, "LON CHANEY" were just WAYYY Ahead of their time!
This video is legendary in every possible way ❤️
19:25 The fact that you got the Dracula actor so excited by mentioning Jack Pierce that he went out of character to his normal voice. That’s pretty cool!! 😎😎😎👍👍👍🧛♂️🧛♂️🧛♂️
Ty for video. Halloween just around the corner.
People behind the scene don't always get the recognition they deserve. My favorite was dracula & wolfman. Thank you for this cool video.
You two are awesome, thank you for keeping thing's long forgotten and hidden alive and reimagined. Stay blessed
Awww, Mrs and Mr Frankenstein were completely adorable here! 🥰🥰
I really enjoyed coming along with you guys for this one. Your shooting/editing style feels like I'm right there with you guys. I've been very sick the past few days and I've been using your extensive video library to help me recover and get back on my feet. I appreciate everything you guys do! 💥

I loved that guy playing Dracula.
Soo awesome. I love your grave yard segments. This one's epic.
