That first tree fell sideways from where you intended it to go, most likely do to the face cut not matching up cleanly. Even with the slight lean that it had, the tree was relatively straight and should've landed in the direction of the face cut, provided the two cuts matched up. I just don't want that seemingly minor detail to put you or someone else at danger when cutting larger trees.
Thank you for the tip, I’m definitely still learning. I’ve only cut done a handful of trees before we acquired this property. Now I still got like 25 more I need to cut down
