Maybe Im dumb but the idea that they were created solely to provide retcons in the future never occurred to me.
After the 2.1 quest, I looked up stuff about the Enigmata and found this video.
This makes the whole last scene even more confusing, in a good way!
Everyone who is still a bit unsure of what the ending of 2.1 revealed needs to see this video, it’s actually terrifying how dangerous these followers of enigmata are and I’m so looking forward to the story continuation. Excellent video the in game info on the enigmata left me super confused and needed to get the explanation by voice to get a clear grasp on how insane it actually is

I can't help but be reminded of HoTr bronya when the concept of objective truth (or lack of it) is explained,bronya created/gained authority over the concept of truth after experiencing her civilizations history through stigmata and memories before and during her fight with hare,the power of truth is on par with origin (the beginning of civilization) and finality (the end of civilization).
HI3's Humanity might be the only civilization that actually has the concept of an objective truth through stigmata and the HoTr,the enigmata can manipulate the truth of a civilization because the civilizations they target do not have the concept of truth outside of whoever's currently observing it and can freely manipulate it as its sole observers after destroying it (in a "if a tree falls in a forest and nobodies around to hear it" kinda deal)
After 2.2 when Gallagher disappeared because he made his existence false is mindblowing as he is one of the followers of the Enigmata.
How useful is this video now. A certain someone got found out only by careful analysis. This person was sus to be honest like everyone knew the person but no one was aware who he is. In fact few times the mc says this person’s name and the answer is that they never heard of it. The story of hsr is so much fun.

Its possible, no one can ever get a read on him after all. I guess that also makes sense how he'd be able to dissapear in the slightest notice. Ie, "I was never there/here" or something that extent.
