Speed has a power of 2 on the kinetic energy formula while mass is linear, so increasing the speed at which the object travels would increase its energy exponentially, while increasing its mass will do so linearly, so yeah, the faster the better!

The train is also stiffer than other vehicles. Less crumple results in a higher peak force because all the kinetic energy is given in a shorter period of time. That is also why the cyber truck did so well; it had very little crumple and was a thick boi.

The problem is that you put trains and cargo planes into the mix: those forms of transportation are literally built with bigger more powerful engines to move heavier cargo across longer distances more efficiently than what cars can do. There's a reason why trains don't have to worry about being derailed by a car on the railroad tracks, and it's not because cars are stronger than trains...

When a train is in movement it produces low friction with those tracks and metal wheels compared to cars with a free suspension and rubber tires. A train is almost like a plane, but the air still plays a factor in both, but that 2nd plane was traveling at a much faster speed than the train.

I wonder how smart the program is. I assume most of the mass in the last train will be in the chassis/undercarriage but a significant part of the top half of the train flew over the scale. Thus, in real life, that energy wouldn’t be calculated. So I wonder if the computer program is designed for accuracy of the whole system by including the roof mass that flew over the scale or if the program is designed for realism by not including that mass because a real scale wouldn’t include it. Either way, fun to think about.
