Phil was right, he's not talking about the River per se, its why do you call 800k on a turn with nothing but AJ, he played it so bad, that Phil put him on a pair straight combo like 8-10 and by going all in he was trying to get him to fold a pair of 8s or 9s with a straight draw combo, his frustration is the guy called 800k with NOTHING, then gets a lucky Ace. NOTICE when Daniel said he had a read on you Phil was like WHAT? Its not about that at all, its how he played it. MEANING, how do you call that board on the turn with an inside strait draw and an Ace. Thats a BAD BAD BAD CALL, and why Phil put him on a middling pair that he could get him off of once the Ace hits. So, Phil's thinking was not wrong at all, and it had nothin g do do with the ACE, once that hits he's going to call, its about the TURN CALL, that seems to have went right over your head.
@@MrRondonmon Pretty easy call on the turn, Phil 3bets better aces or pairs over 9s, not many combos of 8x or 9x that he calls with, so he either has a small pair or a draw or a weaker ace
@@LMW87MMA Not with AJ, here is why, either Phil has a hand like AK or AQ which has you crushed, or he probably had a mid pair small pair which means you are putting g money in almost dead which is why he put him on a hand like 8-10 or 9-10. Which he though he could get him off one pair. He had no idea he had an Ace because its not a call for 800 K on the turn. Remember, Phil traps with big hands a lot. Sometimes bad players get lucky. I say for leaving the chip behind the dealer should announce that the player in not all in do not flip your cards over. Btw loved the 1:40 vlog, blowing off steam and having fun Danial! Have a safe trip home.
Re: the one chip thing-I agree, nothing illegal, it just feels scummy. Players and dealers need to work together on this one: dealers need to be clear with their use of the all-in button, and maybe even clarify when it ISN’T used. (“Player raises to X. Player has chips behind.”) At the same time, it’s on players to protect themselves. As this play becomes more common, it’s worth it to just ask, “What do you have behind?” And, if in doubt, just say “all in” or “raise” rather than “call”.
Casual poker watcher here - I was under the impression that in tournaments, you typically can't show your cards until all action is done. Has that rule changed to be more like cash games?
@@coolpapabell22 That's still the rule, but it's only if the person is doing it maliciously. If it's an obvious mistake, they don't enforce a penalty for a first-time offense.
A rough year for the DNeg’s bankroll, but a lot of great coverage and entertainment for the fans this past year. Thanks for taking us along for the ride. Merry Christmas and epic happy new year. Love and respect, until we next time ✌️
The percentages look great. Excellent addition. You should put the percentages of all the hands. It's ok.... Just a game. A game you are great at! Ok 2 be behind sometimes. People are going to judge you no matter what you do. Honesty is important.
Question how is it draw when Daniel has ace 8 and the other guys has ace 2 off?? 8:59 is the scenario please I’m trying to understand the rule in that scenario
In bounty tournaments I feel like there is another benefit to leaving 1 chip behind. If you get 2 callers you force one of them to reraise pre or reraise 1bb post flop to get your bounty, which may force out the other player pre flop or if they fully wiff on the flop they may fold to that 1bb raise.
Great tournament. I’ve thought about what you said about holding back. I’m just a casual player, but professional poker is a hard life for a lot of players. It’s takes great skill, but if a player doesn’t use all the legal options, s/he could end up broke, because there’s the luck aspect over which there seems not to be a lot of control. So I have to say that the player should use all the legal variations available to win if he can. You are a smart man financially, and have been able to create a healthy situation for yourself. For one thing, you seem to have excellent balance in your life and you have Amanda. So I guess I see your point, but if holding back is a legal strategy, it’s okay in my view. Thanks for the entertainment.❤️
Another reason people do it is for protection on the pot when they are going to go all in. Say they have a little over 2 big blinds. They min raise and say they get 3 or 4 callers. They will keep those chips behind to force one of the remaining players to bet and hope another player folds.

The best is when Daniel Plays plo, talks about ranges, and proceeds to do a hand review ignoring ranges and instead putting the exact hand he’s against saying it’s a 50-50
This year was great effort and still winning your 7th bracelet was your greatest achievement thus year my opinion and as for the leaving 1 blind or chip behind I see as an online exploit thst cab be very annoying I didn't realize was also a live issue but 1 way I try to deal with is if I was calling anyways I would just raise and force them to put it in and if they fold preflop for 1 more bb they look silly anyways have geest holiday and keep up great content and ps I wasn't sure about mania podcast would be my thing but like everything else you put yourself into and focus on what matters and anegs is crushing as well you both very entertaining and informative
When you update the traditional end of year total loss video in entry fees GG actually pays, can you also give some insight into how much non entry money gets burned and if GG pays for that as well?
How about that one time earlier this year when Jeremy Ausmus raised non all-in at PGT when he had less than 2x the river bet behind. Lost at showdown but managed to spin the few chips he left behind from his 1.7x river raise back up to 10+ bigs in a couple orbits
I'm very confused on how you can go all in but leave a chip behind. Once u announce all in that's means all ur chips, not just what u put out. Did the rules change?
People are not announcing all in. they have 700,000 they put in 695,000 and the other player thinks your all in says call and flips their hand over. If the other player just pays attention or says all in there’s no issue
I respect you Daniel a lot, been watching your content forever but the leaving chips behind cannot be taken away, I compare it to someone doing an onside kick in football or a bunt in baseball, unexpected and well within the rules, not your fault if the opponent is not fully paying attention
the big blind rule seems like its a lifeline anyone can grab when risking all in against bigger stacks. so if that wasnt the intention of the rule makers then maybe they can adjsut the rule somehow like if u jsut went all in u cant be get a chance till ur next hand for a big blind rule idk.
At my home casino we get a one round penalty if we expose a hand with any action pending so we have to be very careful to see if someone left a chip behind when thinking we are closing the action after an all in. Also showing a neighbor is also penalized even if they are not in the hand.
Daniel, I love watching the blogs and everything. Haven’t even finished this one but I did have one question. I know money isn’t an issue for you but do you think if it was you’d play differently? Not just from icm perspective but from a personal perspective? I know that’s not math or optimal play but I wondered if you ever thought about that? Obviously coming from a player who’s every tourney matters.
