  • A 19 km downhill descent into the town of Aigle from the mountain pass of Le Mosses. Taking the lane is accepted by Swiss and French motorists when descending at speeds of 60-70 kph on an 80 kph road. Note that the following drivers either pass wide or simply hold back at a safe distance, knowing that there are no available passing options. This type of road cycling is never possible or safe in New Zealand. Road surfaces are rough, uneven, patched over patches, and potholed; drivers are angry and aggressive, and road speeds are unsafe at 100 kph
