Last week we visited Murphy Sportfishing's Kyuquot Sound Lodge on the West Coast of Vancouver Island. Our friends have told me many times just how amazing this place is and what we experienced was anywhere close to my expectations before the trip. This video is the first evening of the trip. We arrived at the lodge at 4:00pm and were served dinner before heading out for the evening bite. All the other boats were running hootchies while we decided to troll a couple of G-Force spoons from Gibbs Delta Tackle. We ended up hooking one fish after another, including this 24 pounder, and wrapped up the outing by 7:00pm.
Enjoy all your videos Rod. Like the less flashy approach. No long shameless promotion. You get It's about the fishing. The Kanalgratis collaborations are way cool too.
hello my friend , i have few questions to ask you , i live in Sweden ( witch you should visit btw) and im going to afar place here for salmon so i dont wnat to come back empty handed so i need some advises , what to use how to use it the best time to go , and i saw you using salmon eggs for it , can you give me a link or something to bey it from i cant find it here
mondo gaming Great! Good luck. The guides usually run 30lb test main since it's pretty open out there and the fish are bigger. Our 25lb main line is better for the inshore water around Vancouver.
916kyang Thanks. Those are mooching rods and reels actually. The rods are Shimano Technium or Convergence, 10'6" and rated 15 to 25lb. The reels are Islander MR3s.

Great video, Rod. Nice to see my friend and powerful fisherman Henry Jr, as well as Spring Island in the background.
Ryan Vernon Both junior and senior are awesome, not just when it comes to fishing, but super nice to hang out with. Thanks! :)
My nephew His dad is my 1st cuz he's son of father leo sr and my mother mary
Great video. Nice guiding service. It looks like he knows what he's doing. Makes me want to fly out there now.
Jim Dekker Thanks. All of Murphy Sportfishing guides were excellent and professional. We can't wait to go back again next year!
BC Mercrow Those are not fly fishing reels. They are mooching reels, designed for ocean salmon fishing. More specifically, those are Islander MR3s.
Great video Rod, and really nice fish too.
Glen Stoner Thanks! :)

Hello excellent battle and nice fish. congratulations great video
Rod, what is your favorite type of fish to eat?
how deep were you guys fishing? And what flasher
Alan Fraser The depth of the water was between 45 and 60ft. The trolling depth was around 30ft. The flashers were Gibbs-Delta Guide series flashers.
Congrats on that big fish!
Jeppe Morgenthaler Thanks!
What kind of mooching rod are you using?
Cha Siu Bao One of them is Shimano Technium while the other one is Shimano Convergence.
Hey what is the lb's of the line you used in this video?
mondo gaming The main line on the reels is 25lb test Maxima Ultragreen mono, the leader from the flasher to the lure is 40lb test.
Thank you because me and my dad want to go trolling for salmon but we were not sure what line to use. I'm a big fan keep up the good work:)

Ok I'll buy some 25lb line, I usually go trolling for sockeye and Chinook salmon around tawassen or at the beginning of the Fraser river.
mondo gaming Great! 25lb should be more than enough then. :)
How heavy was that last fish?
24lb.
"24 pounder" that's a lot of smoked Salmon! Are they typically that big? Can't wait to see the rest of the trip. :)
Kidsfishing 10 to 20lb is average, 20 to 30 are around so you get the odd ones, and occasionally you run into a 30+ fish. :)
Makes me what to get out there !!!
Ian Dubois There's still two months left for this season. ;)
Nice video! Trolling with fly rod 👍
