  • In this video we take a look how to make a board out of split wood. This was suggested by long time subscriber M Knowles who put me onto the original video and I thought I would share my take on it. It is very easy to do, and you can make anything from a small cutting board to a large table top. Thanks for watching...…..

    Now that's great bushcrafting using a small saw and knives along with what nature provides. Love seeing ways to create useful camp items like this since I like to stay in one camp for awhile. This is something to do on those lazy days, or now that it's a change in season, on colder days. And hope your health is coming along, I'm doing ok with the few changes I made in my diet the last couple months. All the best!

As well as using this around camp I have also been making a few rustic things for the garden which have turned out OK. Like you say, it is perfect for doing on a lazy day. Hi Brother, I hope you are keeping well :) I agree, this simple method has a multitude of uses. Hopefully I will try it out on a few other projects :) I have just read your comment on Joel's channel, but I can't reply to it for some reason. So I just wanted to say how pleased I am that you will be doing some filming again, and will look forward to watching them. We all love a good knife, so these will be right up my street :) Have a great week brother, best wishes, Mark :)

      @thriftysurvivor6117 4 года назад +1

      @@markbailey2981 Thank you brother. I'm doing well, God has been so good to me. Most of the filming I'll be doing will be knife reviews. I started with a small inventory of mid range knives that appear to provide a lot of bang for the money. I also have plans on ordering some higher end knives when I have the ability to do so, but there's not as much of a markup on most of the higher end knives. I think you can understand what I'm driving at when the wholesale price on some of these knives can be over $100. Ordering a quantity of those at this time is not within my means. That's why I'm starting that I can order enough of to offer my customers some variety.
      As you probably know, there are other expenses when starting a business, so I have to start slowly, but I am excited about posting my website in the videos when I have all the bugs worked out. I also want to be setup for international shipping since many of my viewers are outside of the U.S. I know, I don't have a large following yet, but I haven't been doing anything other than replying to comments on it lately. Even so, It seems that I should let my followers know about the website, and not disallow them from ordering just because they live overseas.
      This is way different than starting a drop ship or an affiliate business since I do have to have products in stock that my customers would be interested in. I will admit though that there are some fringe benefits to a brick and mortar business of this type. As long as you're selling products you're interested in, even if you get stuck with some of it, you probably will not be too upset about it. Haha!!! The website is still somewhat under construction, but it is live. I'd like to give you the URL so you can take a look at it and let me know about any changes you'd make, or give me some ideas. That is if you'd care to do so. I'm pretty proud of my business cards and I'd be happy to send you one. I could also email it to you in a PDF format if you'd like to see it now. I did all the artwork myself. Yes, I'm kind of patting myself on the back here.
      Enough about that brother. Sorry, but I'm a bit passionate about the business. I must say that I really appreciate your friendship. Even though we've never physically met, I do consider you a true friend. That's why I shared so much about my new endeavor with you. Please feel free to email me at my personal email which is ------------------ any time you wish. I never miss any of my emails, so I'll always be sure to respond. As you mentioned not being able to reply to my comment on Joel's channel, it seems that RUclips does have some glitches, and for some reason I'm no longer being notified of when you post new videos. That's why I decided to give you my email address so we can keep abreast of each others social media activity without skipping a beat.
      Sorry about writing this book. I guess I have the gift of gab on the keyboard as well. Anyway, take care of yourself brother, and have a blessed day.

      @@markbailey2981 Thank you brother. I may have trouble shipping overseas since different countries have different regulations regarding the import, or sales of knives in particular. I'm trying to find a way around that, but as of yet haven't been able to find any app, or software that determines weather or not one can legally ship certain types of knives to certain jurisdictions, or countries. The same applies for the U.S. from state to state, but at least here, as long as I stick with fixed blades, all states allow fixed blade knives of any configuration.
      It's very complicated since weather it's a folder, the length of the blade, the type of action that's required to activate the automatic function , and even the shape of the blade can be a consideration for some locations. There has to be a way to allow customers to know when they place something in their shopping cart, weather or not it can be shipped to their location. Even the minimum age of the person must be known prior to shipping. I've been looking for an app that automates this, and I know some of the larger knife companies use something like what I'm describing, but it must be a well hidden "trade secret".
      Anyway. I'll leave it at that for today, and I'll try not to bore you with any more of these details from this point forward.
      Feel free to drop me an email if you wish, even if it's just to let me know when you've put up a new video.
      I know, another very long reply on my part. You have a great week as well brother, and may our God richly bless you and your family.

      @@markbailey2981 Sorry brother. I seem to have forgotten to hit reply on my last reply. I guess it's a little late now, but you have a blessed week as well.
      As to the knife business, it looks like I'll just have to include a disclaimer prior to where people make their purchases informing them that it's their responsibility to comply with their local regulations. That should relieve me of any responsibility as far as avoiding shipping items to where they are restricted or banned.
      I'm hoping to start posting my first knife videos next month. The reason I'm waiting is I still need a shipping label printer which is beyond my budget for this month. Then I'll have to get it connected with the app that automatically calculates shipping when people place their orders. This may sound like a hassle, but I'd rather do this than to have to deal with Amazon.
      P.S. I have some Donald Trump 2020 knives that should sell well in conservative regions here in the U.S. I wander if RUclips will frown on me posting videos on a president that has been supportive of Israel, is pro life, pro freedom of religion, pro small government... All this goes against the liberal mindset of the tube. I think I'll be OK with posting those videos, but it might be wise to post videos of non political knives at first. The website is bushcraftedge.com so most of the knives will be bushcraft geared knives, but there's a market during our elections for these so I ordered some. Plus, admittedly, I kind of like them. Hehe!!!
      You have a great rest of the week there brother.

      Hi Colin, I hope you are keeping well mate. Not too bad here now thanks mate. Just a bit of flu that was going around. That's a great idea about using them on a raised bed. I never thought of that :) I have been using the same thing in the garden and made a few rustic plant pot holders and bases. It seems to be a good way for a multitude of things. I'm sure I will be using it more in camp and hopefully get things nice and comfy up there :) Thanks as always Colin :) Have a great week mate, ATB Mark :)

    Hi Mark! Interesting technique to put the pieces together. Do you think this will get loose, when the willow twigs dry and shrink? Take care brother and have a great week! André

    • @markbailey2981
      @markbailey2981  4 года назад +1

      Good morning Andre :) I hope you are keeping well brother. It is something that I thought about too. But I hope with them both being green that they would shrink together and still hold tight. It still seems fine at the moment, but if there was too much shrinkage on the Willow then you could always try a seasoned wood. This was bit of an experiment for myself too :) Thank for taking the time to watch and comment Andre :) It is always great to hear from you :) All the best, Mark :)

    Hi Mark, Hope you're back to full fitness? Can I ask you for some info. please mate. I've made a couple of leather pouches as Christmas presents for my sons and want to get a couple of Victorinox Farmers to put in them I have made the pouch sizes based on my red Victorinox Swiss army knife. I know you rate the Farmer Alox I know length and width wise it will fit but can you let me have the thickness of the Farmer I don't want to order them and find they are too thick lol and yes I know I should have got the Farmers before making the pouches lol. Look forward to your next video. Best wishes Mel

    Mark by the way, do you have much experience with outdoors smocks / jackets? I've seen you wearing different kit and am looking for something at the moment (winter in mind), I'm looking at Ridgeline but running out of £££ haha and definitely will not afford the nordic brands for many years yet ...
    Any advice you have would be great
    Cheers again
    Chris

    • @markbailey2981
      @markbailey2981  4 года назад +1

      Hi Chris :) I have just bought a Paramo Pajaro jacket for the winter. They aren't cheap, but certain no where near as much as Fjallraven . The smock I wear in the winter was about £350, but I managed to get the Paramo for £200. Ridgeline make some good, hardwearing jackets and smocks. I was looking at them at the show for this winter, then I was thinking of getting a Ventile cotton jacket, but they were expensive!!!! Especially if it is a double layered Ventile which is best for wet climates, they were around £600, so I opted with the Paramo. They are still waterproof if you puncture them and a good all round jacket. Only snag, they don't like fire lol. Keela also make some decent jakets and smocks. They do a heritage range which the garments are made from Ventile, wools and cotton. I will leave you the link to the Paramo website. They say the rrp is £300, but you can get them cheaper off eBay. The one I am wearing in the video is the moss colour. I hope this helps mate, all the best, Mark :) www.paramo-clothing.com/en-gb/explore-range/product/?pk=26B71132-849D-4AA3-B7BB-72818DC1F204
