I love doing these and giving as gifts. I even found vanilla powder to add in that makes it easy on the recipient. You can’t assume that everyone has it on hand. I think a basket of these makes a lovely gift. I need to have these on my pantry shelf for those cravings for a homemade cookie batch but I usually have frozen balls of homemade cookie dough that allows me to take out as many as we want for always warm and fresh cookies on demand.
Addd some nuts to fill in the space on the cherry cookie mix. Chopped or slivered almonds would be good. I love butterscotch chips in the Cowboy cookies .. and walnuts. Thanks for sharing these great recipes in a jar ideas!
Such a great idea!!!! I'm going to make up some jars for my little grandangels for Christmas. I had to laugh when I went to the allrecipes site featuring the one that was persnickety in the order of ingredients, though! I'm a business writer and old editor; details seem to flash neon at me. Did anyone else notice the instructions to end with flour but featured a picture with flour on the bottom???? 😉😊😄 THANKS Dr Pam! And thanks to Dr Jim for being such a willing taste-tester : )
Good Morning, wishing you a Happy Thanksgiving. I am fairly new to your Channel and loving it. I have learned so much and appreciate the science, correctness, detail and kindness you and Jim have shown. Thank you. A quick suggestion on the used lids. I use lemon oil and the writing with the marker comes right off. Blessings from a German Lady who is always eager to learn.
This is a great idea! I would probably layer the jar different. I'd first put in the add INS then the flour mix then the sugar....that way I could mix the egg+butter+vanilla, then beat in the sugar, then mix in the flour , then the add ins, just like you'd make regular cookies. You're right about the size of the egg could throw off the recipe but personally I would add a little bit more butter because water might make the cookies come out cakey and I much prefer a gooey cookie. I'm definitely going to try this!😊 Thank you!!!! 💕💖❤️
Prof Pam⚘️ Prof Jim🎉 HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY'S.. . Thank you for this idea. I will make these gifts for my daughter's family as stocking stuffers. My grandkids will so enjoy baking these with their parents... Thank you... Always #teamcantrell❤
Hi Pam & Jim. I watched this from our adventure to Newfoundland. Can’t wait to make for gifts and our pantry. We love homemade cookies! Never too old for cookies😋
I use painters tape from the hardware store to label everything! If the jar/lid is dry & room temperature, they stay put through many washings and also peel right off. My roll of painters tape and a sharpie are constantly used in my kitchen.
I’m excited to make these as gifts to my adult grandchildren. I am going to substitute gf flour. The brown sugar could be a problem getting out if it had been sitting long but as gifts it shouldn’t be a problem. Longer term on my shelf maybe 6 months? Thanks for such a fun thing to do with kids too.
I LOVE THIS! Thank you for sharing! it dawns on me I can do the same thing with my screw ball chocolate cake mix! which makes just a single layer 8" cake round.
The cowboy cookie really needs the chocolate chips makes a BETTER COOKIE!! My opinion! I would add to the recipe a 1/2 cup of shredded coconut and 1/2 raisins. These are the Best ever cookies!!
This is such a wonderful gift idea. Especially many of us are overwhelmed with cookies around the holidays. Thank you, Pam & Jim! And, happy Thanksgiving!
Happy Thanksgiving to you Pam and Jim and all your wonderful followers! I love this idea and thinking of my very own Italian cookies that I may be able to do this with. My mother would have loved this.
Thanks for these! I was thinking of making up some of these kinds of jar gifts for Christmas this year, like 1 ‘Meal in a Jar’ and 1 cookie in a jar so the receiver has a full meal. However, I think it’s a great idea to also have these in the pantry. Much obliged! Hope you have a very Happy Thanksgiving!
I am so excited to make this and give out for gifts and for our pantry too!! Great idea, and a fun crafting experience for my famiky this weekend! Thank you and Happy Thanksgiving! Very thankful for you & Jim!❤
How did you attach your printed labels on front so they remove easily? I re use commercial jars. I use painters tape for my storage. Some labels are like concrete. Or glue residue is too hard to deal with. Out they go.
If I did that I would use organic can sugar. Maybe not as much molasses as brown sugar but the granules are larger and would probably be easier to get out of the jar.
Also I was thinking that maybe the reason the cowboy cookies weren't sticking is because you melted the butter instead of putting room temperature better are chill better whatever the recipe called for. These look really good.
OMG - how do you take old writing off of used lids? I save mine to after pressure canning, to use with dry goods and didn't know I could remove the label!! Can't wait to try this. My hubby is gonna love you for this!
Most cookie recipes call for the sugars to be creamed with the butter (and vanilla) prior to mixing in the rest of the dry ingredients. What if you mix the white/brown sugars then put in a little baggie. Could tie the baggie to jar with a ribbon. so that it stays separate for mixing and also prevent brown sugar from hardening. And in the case where jar isnt quite big enough, make more room for the other ingredients.
I wonder if you could add powdered egg & butter to it instead of adding the egg & butter later. You’d need to add the extra water, but that seems easy enough. I just don’t know if those 2 products are ok to have stored in a jar without going bad. Does anyone know?
Pam would there be moisture in the brown sugar that could lead to molding? I was thinking maybe the brown sugar should be left out and just added when you're making the cookies? Also should we vacuum seal these jars
I recommend putting the brown sugar in a Ziploc bag. Tamping it down will allow the brown sugar to harden to a hockey puck. Good luck getting it out and crumbled when you make the cookies
Reason you barely soften butter when making any cookie with oats because oats are so dry they absorb all the fat if melted. 10th grade Home Economics Mrs. Stovall. 1960.
On my screen there is a "more" under the description and I click on that and it drops down with more info. I am using a laptop so yours may be different.
Hit the mire button on the screen and when that opens up and you see the description text you'll see another more button on the bottom of that, click and it opens up more info. Hope tat makes sense and helps 😊
Under the video is the title. In this case it says COOKIE MIX IN A JAR. Then, under that it will say how many views, and to the right of that, will be the word, MORE. Tap on the word MORE and it will bring up a side bar on the right. You will see a printed description which also ends with the word, MORE. Tap on this second word , MORE and it will bring up links to all the recipes. You will have to click on each individual link to see each recipe. Hope this helps. I am on an IPad so don’t know how different it might be for you, , but similar I’m sure. 🍪

Grandangels, love that ❤
YES! These are going to be in my pantry and for gifts. Thank you, Rose and Jim. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving Day. ♥

Thank you. My wife's aunt made jar cookies for each family at Christmas, we couldn't wait to get them home and try them out. Happy Thanksgiving!
I made dry mix cookies in a jar back in the 80's.
Great video. Funny this showed up tonight . Yesterday I made up eight different jars of cakes, cookies and brownies. These are sooooo handy, 🌷🇨🇦

These look great. I wonder if you could add freeze dried egg powder. Maybe in a separate little container?
Hi Pam & Jim. I watched this from our adventure to Newfoundland. Can’t wait to make for gifts and our pantry. We love homemade cookies! Never too old for cookies😋
I use rubbing alcohol to remove the marker from the lids! Cookies look great!
Or nail polish remover. 💅

A light scrubber with dish soap takes it right off. I just take it off as I’m doing the dishes.
@@danbev8542that’s what I use, or colored masking tape. 👍🏻

Love these. Please do Nesco canning videos. I need more confidence 💕💕
I use a cookie scoop on these types of dough, and it is fast, and works perfectly!! It also makes uniform sized cookies.
COWBOY COOKIES
Aka kitchen sink cookies!
Loveeeee those
I LOVE THIS! Thank you for sharing! it dawns on me I can do the same thing with my screw ball chocolate cake mix! which makes just a single layer 8" cake round.
Good evening from Lynda in New Zealand. Enjoy your show. X
Num! Bet your house smelled terrific! I'm going to try some in pint jars for 'Cookies With Less Guilt' for my pantry.
I am going to try this with artificial sugars for my diabetic daughter in law. Thank you!!
If your brown sugar is as harsh as a brick bat...put a slice (heal) of bread in the bag/container...so soft in 24 hrs
Marshmallows work better. Plus no risk of mold. 😊
I’ve used the bread trick too! Works great! I also would put a slice of bread on top of too hard/crispy cookies to soften them up in the cookie jar. 😊
@@Pamela-BI like this idea
Works with white sugar too
@ 👍🏻😊

Thank you for reminding me of some other ways to give gifts. Happy Thanksgiving!
Great gift ideas. Have a great Thanksgiving.
I like the smaller quantity these make and you are so right about the eggs-young hens replacing the older flocks struck with avian flu
Thank you so much. I'll make them with at least half of the sweetners Stevia. Easy Peasy. 👍
Love this
Oh I want one!!!
Great tips as always. Double the cookie sheets very smart💚 have a blessed Thanksgiving I’m grateful for your wonderful teaching 💚💚
Try using hickory nuts instead of the pecans. Gives it a maple-y flavour. Pretty amazing. Hard to find hickory nuts, but worth the search.
Thank you! This is so easy to keep on the shelf! Pam and Jim have a very wonderful Blessed Thanksgiving!
I love these cookies in a jar recipes. Thank you for sharing them.
I hope y’all have a wonderful blessed Thanksgiving. ❤❤
The cheery sound gooood. Thank you for sharing these!
Pam: Love the make ahead idea. We all have very busy holidays. Happy Thanksgiving.
This is a great video. I have learned so much from you and Jim. Thank you.
What is the shelf life since jar is not vacuum sealed.
You’d use the earliest expiration date from all of the individual ingredients
Great gift ideas, tyvm

Hello, what a fantastic idea! Going to be making these in the near future! Thank you so much! Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
Thanks for the reply. I guess I will have to use my laptop or maybe my tablet instead of my IPhone to see and print information.
Good lesson

I just love that tamping down sound, 😂😂
Looks delicious

Hi Pam do you think freeze dried eggs and powdered vanilla could be used in these? So when giving as gifts they only need to add the oil
Also butter powder.
Ty
Will you please explain how you put together the 6 grain ceral.
Is there a link anywhere for your 6 grain cereal mix? I'd love to try it.
God bless
Oh, Pam, I love this! Do you have any ideas on fun labels?

Great recipes! How long are they shelf stable?
Did anyone try to print her gift tags? I can't see to do it. They print our small and half a page cutting off some.
How long are you going to store the mix with the cherries? What is the chance that those cherries mold?
I wonder if you could add powdered egg & butter to it instead of adding the egg & butter later. You’d need to add the extra water, but that seems easy enough. I just don’t know if those 2 products are ok to have stored in a jar without going bad. Does anyone know?

Don't vacuum seal sugar or salt. They turn into hard bricks that even a hammer won't break up ( ask me how I know 😊).
How long can these be stored- with the dried fruits?
Do you use Hulled Barley? I was gifted 3 quarts of it and have no idea what to do with it.
I recommend putting the brown sugar in a Ziploc bag. Tamping it down will allow the brown sugar to harden to a hockey puck. Good luck getting it out and crumbled when you make the cookies

👍🙂
What is the name of your recipes nook for meals in a jar and how can I order it?
I would eliminated the mint and used white chocolate + nuts.
Perhaps needed a bigger jar.
❤😊
How long do you think these will keep and could you put them in mylar with an oa
Oxygen absorbers turn sugar into a brick. Best not to use when there’s sugar involved in the recipe.
Won't the pecans get moldy in the jars especially if there is moisture.
Hi can i use raisins instead of cherries,? Not a fan of them.
Happy Thanksgiving!
I bet dried cranberries would be wonderful too!
Of course! Just add what you like. These are just ideas.
Yes you can use Raisins. 😊
What label maker do you have
Hi Pam. Love your videos. I just ordered the book. Can’t wait to download it. I’m definitely gonna make these for my pantry. Happy holidays.
Thanks for watching our channel and let us know your thoughts the book. Happy Holidays to you, too. Jim

Is there a shelf life issue with the baking powder? Ok...I'll wait and see if you address that
❤😊
I'm curious why there is no eggs in the ingredients to make these cookies.
Eggs are added to the dry mix when the cookies are made.
HA! You said Jim and me, instead of Jim and I... college professor. Still love you though.

You are welcome. Jim
