  • Back in August 2023, my service dog in training and I went to the Marlins Park to watch the Marlins play the Yankees. We, unfortunately, had the worst access issue we've had to date due to uneducated security staff. Come with us to watch Mars' second baseball game!

That’s ridiculous that the staff at the game weren’t better informed but good that Mars did well at the game

Its difficult dealing with public access issues. I've heard some people buy those fake ID cards and that appeases some places. But then you get people thinking its mandatory to have the ID card. Unfortunately most people aren't very receptive when trying to explain the rules. I've only had one experience that was actually positive when I explained to a business owner. Otherwise its usually a hassle people don't like to be wrong or something and i try to be as careful and polite as possible. I find it helps sometimes when i tell them that they do have a right to ask a service dog to leave under certain circumstances and explain. I think some business owners have problems with fake service animals.
You'd think a large venue like a stadium would be better informed. I've also heard of people who carry pamphlets explaining the rules that they can give or show when there is an access issue. I think having a pamphlet might be the best option to help de-escilate.
Its just so uncomfortable having to deal with access issues, the worst is when it's not a business owner or employee but a random person who is upset that you have a dog for whatever reason. My absolute worst experience was when some random person in the grocery store started screaming at me and my dog then when i went all the way to the other end of the store you could still hear the person screaming about us that was horrible i never went back to that store since. Its tough especially when you have anxiety.

Yeah, my experience has been that people lock up and dig in their heels when they don’t understand. Don’t want to be wrong like you said

The I’d card thing is so frustrating! Our city literally has it in their definitions, against state and federal law. I’d love to get it changed for other people dealing with the city but don’t know if I have the energy to fight the idk, city attorney about it? Glad you were able to get in and hopefully they’re better to the next person with a sd coming in.
Oh and glad my pup isn’t the only one who likes to lick things 😂

What stadium was this at? I went to Wrigley Field and was asked for my papers. I said there's no such thing as papers. He walked away and that was that. I also bought seats in the ADA area. Gave my dog and I more room and we didn't feel so cramped. The staff in the area was AMAZING!!!

I would make a crayon drawing of the dog and write "This is my ADA ID"

Showed you an emotional support animal ID… when emotional support dogs aren’t protected under the ADA. That alone underscores the need for better training among businesses.
