so the company I work for its a taxi company and they use these radios. if I were to acquire one for myself how would I go about programming it and acquiring the channels they use and would it be illegal to acquire those channels only for listening purposes???
You don't need a license for the radio itself, no. You need a license to use the radio to transmit on a certain frequency. Unless you work for a company that uses them, or for police/fire/EMS, you'll need a license or permission to use a frequency. That goes for any UHF radio. Doesn't matter what kind it is.
Excellent idea!!! I agree because I bought one for GMRS and I have yet to get deep enough into programming because the 8180 is loaded. I haven’t scratched the surface.
Hello! I'm using this Radio for HAM Radio as a RX for a DMR Repeater. Do you know how to use the RSSI Signal on Pin1 at the SUB-D25 ? To show the Signal strength ? Best wishes from Germany
Thanks! I have, actually, but not right now. I've grown up with Kenwood radios, and I have the most experience with them. I've heard Motorola radios are harder to program. Maybe someday, though.
Actually the software on some of the older radio's has a similar format. I think you would like them! At least one and if you don't like it then you could sell it. I suggest an ht1250. I have 1 and it is the best radio I own!
Vertex standards are easy to program as long as you look around in the software for a little bit before actually programming it. I have a Vertex Standard VX-2200 UHF 45W for listening to my local police departments. I will be purchasing a VX-2500 as well. My local police department in the city that I live in uses Vertex Standard VX-231's and Kenwood TK-790H in them as my department dispatches to two surrounding departments.
You don’t need all those. Sell one. I’ll take it!

I wish you would do a video tutorial on programming these radios. I think you would make a good one.

what’s the difference between the 800 and the 8180h?
What frequency is that
What kind of range can you get with the gmrs radio channels?
Your welcome.
Do you have any Vertex Standard radios?
Nope, I only run Kenwood, with exception to my two pairs of bubble pack radios.
Cool radio!
Thanks!
Hey quick question, do you still have Rigs of Rods?
Isn't 2955 your bus?
No, 2866.
Was that the bus that broke down that one day?
Neat radio. Have you ever thought of trying a motorola?

Alright, thanks for the suggestion. Maybe sometime in the future when I get the money!
Dave I think that vertex standard is better
