"You can get snagged with it..." I think Pat Weiss is my spirit animal when it comes to his attitude towards things. I've never hired a rent-a-buddy, and never will, but he's one of a handful of people (or imaginary friends) I'd love to fish with and learn from for a day. I wish he had said more about why he finds a micro-leader isn't optimal for flat water. I haven't heard that view before. Finally, kudos to Fulling Mill for forgoing the gratuitous fish-catching moment. Keeps it real.
Thankyou pat. There must be thousands of films on nymphing out there, but you just explained pretty much the essence of nymphing and what you need to try and do, and it only took 10 minutes. You meet some fishermen and you can just tell they have a simple natural understanding of the fish and how to catch them. Its not time on youtube that makes you a better fisherman, its time on the water. But pats films are an exception.
Interesting to see a team usa guy who is so indifferent to the micro-leader. I feel like all of the others who post content have me sold on working my way thinner. This reminds me that there are always many ways of doing things, and they are mostly all viable. The importance comes with learning your water and set-up. Getting into the next hype item every 6 months keeps you from ever mastering a technique or piece of gear. We all probably remember being given a rifle, bow, or fishing rod when we were young and mastering it because getting another never crossed our mind.
I would love to hear Pat talk in detail about what characteristics he looks for in a rod to ensure specific diameters of a micro leader will fish optimally.

That's one of my spots!

Pat is fishing a MasterNymph Bellator 2 wt 10'. And he's as always the no BS kind of guy I knew from my competitive days.
Yeah.... Actually if anyone here wants a Master Nymph I've got two I want to part way with... Both are the latest models {BelatorVII}. PF1 11' PM2 10'
I would love those :)
