My iPhone 4s still communicates with iCloud and shows me the latest photos there. My old MacBook Pro and Air from 2009 and 2010 are still working and connecting to the eco-system. This kind of product compatibility / stable software development throughout the years has become a competitive edge and asset for Apple products.
That’s the beauty of Apple. I can use the latest MacBook to load music onto the original iPod from 2001. iTunes recognizes it perfectly. The 2007 iPhone also had a wireless earpiece that works quite similarly to AirPods. Unused batteries have long since been dead, but if you still have one that has kept its battery life, you can still use it with modern iPhones. It even has its little status bar icon built into current iOS! Compatibility is the very core of the Apple ecosystem, and that’s what gives it so much strength
You were spot on with the confidence argument. Google has always had a huge tendency to abandon projects immediately and/or out of nowhere. We've seen this many times already and even recently with the whole Stadia situation. Unless Google actually tries to give their projects continuity and gain consumer trust, their ecosystems will always be doomed to fail from the get-go.

I think it's because they think in software: if something goes wrong you can always release an update, with hardware you can't and supporting it is way harder then a random app

I like your point, Apple may be boring, or the "same thing every year" but you know more or less what you're getting, and what it will be in 1, 2, 3 years. Getting a Google phone seems like an undue risk as a consumer who wants something predictable, not a cancelled engineering failure in a year.
Apple have messed up the macbook with its keyboards and ports and didnt fix it for years, the new iphones have camera issues and the new ipad isnt worth buying. Tons of issues in the past too. Don't get me wrong Google have made a lot of hardware mistakes too but Apple isn't innocent either

Would love to see a compare of the Samsung ecosystem vs the Apple Ecosystem, as they have done far more to have and keep a suite of consistent hardware.
I too would also like a comparison between Apple and Samsung's echosystems, especially since I'll be switching to Samsungs primarily next year. Only Apple product I am keeping is my Mac Mini 2020, once my iPhone 13 Pro is paid off. Going with either the S23 or A54 when it comes to the phones, and either a Tab S8 or a Samsung Chromebook when it comes to the tablet side of things. Will I pick up a Galaxy Book laptop? Unsure for now. Same goes for the watch.

You're not wrong on any of this, but my position is if you're ignoring the fact one can buy a Chromebook from e.g. HP or Lenovo, a phone from e.g Nokia or Samsung and a watch from e.g. Fitbit or Google, a TV from JVC or Sony and even some smart home bits too and they all work together well, THAT'S the real Google ecosystem and it's way more affordable and useful than apple's in my experience. It doesn't matter that Google don't keep their hardware going because you can just go buy a Google software device from someone else.
I couldn't agree more. I was all in with Google; Pixel phone, Pixel Book, and Google Home, (I even used a Fitbit for about a decade) but it always annoyed me to have to find workarounds to make certain things play nice with each other. Now that I'm in the Apple Ecosystem things are just so much more connected. There's nothing like getting a pair of headphones and it's instantly connected to all of my other devices and switches seamlessly between them, not to mention being able to answer a phone call on my watch, laptop, iPad, or even the phone itself.
Hey dummy the pixel buds seamlessly switch(afaik) between your devices the same way galaxy buds do with Samsung devices(they act identical to airpods switching between devices)
Omg yes apple does it so well. For fun I can still use old iPhones and work well mon the ecosystem. I love the iPhone 4s design and can send and reply and FaceTime and gets calls, and update my playlist across all my new modern idevices
@@HomerAndRoe Because once you're in an ecosystem getting out of it takes time and money and I'd rather put my money into an ecosystem that I know has stability. Google keeps canceling products or projects because they don't seem to work the way they want so people who are invested are out of luck. Apple may take longer to bring things to market but they tend to stick with them when they do. When I used nothing but Android and Google Pixel phones I used to make fun of Apple as well, but now I can see the benefits. A lot of people want to customize everything to change up the look or function on a regular basis, I used to be there, but now I just want my stuff to work together so I can do what I need to do when I need to do it. The one thing I do know is that when Apple comes out with the next "WhateverItIs" device or software I'll be able to use it for years to come.
This is exactly why I left the android/google ecosystem a couple of years ago and I never looked back. Once I got my first iPhone it was like I had seen the promised land.
My pixel 3 was abandoned less than 3 years after purchase new from google. It was abandoned on the buggiest version of android 12, and has made the phone unusable. People do not talk about this enough in reviews.
It is integral that companies make products that break the ecosystem instead of promoting it. Staying in one ecosystem seems the sure shot digital analogue of dystopia and slavery I can think of. The more the ecosystem grows, the more control the company has over your experience. They control your apps, news, ads, recommendations. They can easily throw you into an echo chamber where you see some part of the world where becoming blind to another part. Imagine someone tells you to stay at a hotel that you will have to pay for. You can do everything in the hotel. You have a gym, you have office, you have bex, you have films, tv, spa, blue films, magazimes, news, ads, shower, food as per your liking and everything is super convenient, just one facial recognition and you money will be deducted or maybe added to a loan. All happiness and convenience, BUT YOU CANNOT LEAVE THE HOTEL.
I think Google has finally started to see their hardware division (specifically their pixel products) as a main player in the game and not just a proof of concept for enthusiasts. I think the biggest indicator of this is their new found scope and scale of marketing. For the longest time most of their ads seemed to target reddit tech heads who wanted the latest fun feature to play with. Now they're focused on a much broader/general audience with way bigger campaigns like the NBA/team pixel.

I don't think it's confidence. I don't think the average person is thinking about that. It's probably just someone buys a pixel, but by the time they want a watch or earbuds, the product isn't around anymore. Plus, all of Android works well together. So Google isn't just competing with apple and a products that don't work as well together, they're also competing with Samsung and Nothing and Oppo and Xiaomi and Sony with products that work just as well together. They don't restrict other products like Apple does.
While I've been a Nexus / Pixel user for the better part of a decade, I've gotta say you hit the nail on the head here. My biggest frustration with Google is the longevity of OS support - especially compared to Apple. The Pixel 3XL that I still daily drive and still suits my needs will never receive another update. But I hesitate to update because I still get unlimited backups to Google Photos that doesn't count against my quota (granted it's space saver mode but still) - which is yet another feature they killed off as time went on. But I still like the OS. I still like the Google software ecosystem. But they are making it harder all the time. Killing off Google Music pushed me to Apple Music instead of YT Music. I find I'm shooting more footage on my work-issued iPhone 12 because it's so much easier to airdrop to my MBP than to tether my Pixel 3 to drag-and-drop files or wait for them to sync to Google Photos so I can download them. In any case, the battery on my Pixel 3XL can still get me through about 70% of the day before I need to charge so I'll probably hold on for another year and see what comes down the pipe in 2023. But I'd be lying if after all this time I wasn't tempted to jump ship to iOS at this point....
Also take into consideration how updates on Android is different from iOS. You still get Google play security updates. Camera, messages, photos and many another system apps will continue to be updated for many years on whereas on iOS system apps need whole system updates . Also on iOS you start loosing third part app support after a while of no longer being supported by apple. For reference the galaxy s4 can still run most apps. The iphone 6 has started losing support

I tried to make the Google system work for years. I switched to the Apple system in 2020 and I won’t go back. Everything syncs flawlessly. All the stuff that worked great in the Google system also works without the Google system. I don’t own a Mac tho, windows for pc. All my portable devices are Apple now.

It all started in 2017 when I bought an iPad Pro. Then my Windows computer took a dump and everything was gone. My backup had also failed. Bought a late 2015 refurbed iMac on a friends reccomendation. Then the iPhone 11 Pro Max, my 1st iPhone. Now I have an iPhone 13 Pro, Apple watch 7, iPad Air4, M1 Mac mini and an M1 Macbook Air, as well as Air Pods Pro 1st gen. Apple sucks you in slowly. LOL That said, everything meshes together and works quite well. I wonder if I'll be able to escape, should the need arise! Haha

There are some valid points here. But the one gaping hole is that the devices aren't really their ecosystem. It's the software. Android, Gmail, search. They don't halve to focus entirely on hardware because they have some many hardware partners. I've been fully embedded in the "Google" ecosystem for decades, but I've got from Google to Motorola to Razer to Nubia. I've had multiple smartwatch manufacturers and it all works. In fact, many people use Googles ecosystem on their Apple phones. One tech reviewer described his iPhone as nothing more than a conduit to his Google apps.

I think the main difference is in mindset. of both the users and the companies Google, naturally, has by far the tightest integration when it comes to their web-based applications. However, when it comes to software like Android and ChromeOS, Google maintains interoperability because they work with multiple manufacturers besides themselves. So, really, is there a need for an ecosystem? An example: Samsung's earbuds work just as well, if not better, than pixel buds on my pixel phone. They connect the moment I open the case, and unlike the pixel buds that have intermittent signal drops they work nigh flawlessly. The beauty of not being within the Apple ecosystem is choice. I use a windows laptop, a linux workstation, and an android phone, because they best suit my needs. They all work together. Maybe there isn't as tight integration as Apple's ecosystem, but I'm not willing to compromise my everyday workflow and my wallet to move over for an ecosystem that I don't need. The whole idea that Google needs to focus on their ecosystem ignores the fact that very few users on this side actually buy everything from the same manufacturer. It's the mentality of Mac and Iphone being applied to a completely different, much more open and much wider space.
This is the best take I've seen in the comments. I don't *want* an ecosystem to be locked into. For me, different form factors and different OSes all have different use cases, and quite frankly, Apple's products are too restricted for me. Not to sound like an Android fanboy as I've been somewhat seriously debating getting a new phone and getting an iPhone this time around, but Apple's products simply just don't feel geared towards power users.
Companies that can make money should not only make a good product alone, but also do a good job in the ecosystem, so that consumers will buy multiple products to experience the ecosystem and spend more money.

I have an HP laptop (Windows 10) and a POCO X3 Pro (Android) and as an ecosystem, it works absolutely fine for my needs. (I managed to make a working ecosystem with Linux and Android as well 😄)
Another big plus of the Apple ecosystem is that because they support their products for so long a new consumer can get into Apple by buying something a few years old that’s significantly cheaper than their brand new products. Like buying an iPhone X or even an iPhone 7-8 for a tenth of the price of the the new iPhone just to see if you actually like the Apple experience.
Apple can wake me up when they let me customize the phone the way I want like using landscape mode on the home screen. Having a completely clean home screen, and using third party launchers and side loading apps. I can't even access the amazing hub of apps available on F-droid on an iPhone. And of course the unforgivable dragging of their feet with lightning.
I'm going to dissent a little. You left out the Google Home/Nest part of the ecosystem, which Apple lags far behind (Amazon is Google's main competitor). I have a Google Home/Next screen or speaker in every room of my house and use it many times every day. It works great with my Nest thermostat, Nest doorbell, various Google-compatible IoT devices, RUclips and RUclipsTV subscriptions, and my Android phone. It's much more important to me than any kind of watch, which I have no desire for. On the other hand, I have no desire for a Chromebook. Instead, I have a MacBook, an iPad, and Windows laptop. Even though I haven't bough into one single ecosystem, I don't feel like I am missing out.
Big reason why I switched from Android to an iPhone is companies like Samsung seemingly dropping software support as soon as the next phone comes out. It's frustrating as hell. My old phone is a perfectly good phone, but it committed the crime of being released in 2018. So Samsung doesn't support it. There is NOTHING wrong with the phone, it can and should support the latest software updates, but it's stuck on a version of Android from 2019 and security updates were intermittent with months in between AT BEST. I shouldn't HAVE to use software hacks just to have an up to date OS. Recently got myself an iPhone SE (2022) while I save up for a more pro model that I hope will last me a long time.
Apple's ecosystem also has another huge advantage - silicon. Because Apple designs the processors in every product it means they work seamlessly together, e.g. AirPlaying your MacBook to your Apple TV, or controlling your AirPods with your Apple Watch. Google simply can't do that, and it all adds up to the seamless experience.
Very good points here. I like to think that Google understands these points now and is why they are saying "It's all coming together." I think a strong ecosystem is the focus, finally, and I have invested in what they have available right now. Time will tell though on how it goes. They are working hard to make people forget the past let downs.
I'm so deep into Apple's ecosystem that I'm totally stuck. My Company may be moving away from our MacBook Pro's and without it just causes a monkey wrench. I text, FT meetings, answer calls, etc. on my MacBook. With Window's I'm screwed. Same thing happened whey I had my Note 20, just threw a monkey wrench in the chain. I think my next phone will be a Samsung Z-Fold if I'm getting a Windows machine next. Then I'll get the Samsung Watch and Buds. EDIT - the reason our Company may move away from MAC, we aren't getting 6-7 years out of them like we once did. I changed my 2016 MAC in 2021 due to swollen battery which destroyed the screen and trackpad. Then a colleague 2019 MAC display stopped working and we paid to have it fixed. The quality is down.
it's possibly the worst time to switch now as I suspect the current gen of macs is built much better, they're not about to ruin their entry into desktop processors.
I don't think the build quality of Macs is down or has ever been down, the problem rather seems to be the form over function design of the 2016-2019 MacBook pros, they are just too thin. Also with the better design since 2020 and especially their own chips, I'd guess the current MacBooks could well become the longest-lasting ones made so far.

I agree that the Apple eco system is better if you want to be in an ecosystem. However, people like myself that would rather be out of an ecosystem and use as much open source software as possible are better off going with the android side of things.
I've got an 11 Pro Max, Airpods Pro and the Apple Watch. Recently I've ordered the Pixel 7 Pro to try it out and got the Pixel Watch as well. Just like you pointed out, with Apple if you want another device to complement your setup, the options are there and are clearly laid out. With Android or Google, I don't have an easy or clear choice, not even from a giant like Google. Their new phone is good, but the watch is rubbish and earphones are meh at best. Then let's say that you do get an Android phone, earbuds and a watch, but they don't work well with eachother like the Apple devices. Yes, the Apple devices are "locked", too simple, but I think that's their selling point: they just work!
The pixel buds pro are meh? Give me a break they're WAY(look at their routine sales) better priced then airpods and are good. MKBHD literally gave them a glowing review and said "just buy these."
Currently in the Apple ecosystem but was a Nexus, Samsung, and Pixel user for a long while… To start, I loved my Pixel phone & sincerely miss the gesture functionalities on Pixel Buds along with Google Assistant (the only competent virtual assistant). Also miss how much better the cross-app communication is on Android… I feel like if you click to open an app in iOS safari it almost never pulls you up to the item you were viewing since it routes things through the App Store and then to the app, losing where you left off in translation. I liked the images that my Pixel produced more too - they we’re less flat and more vivid than my current iPhone photos IMO and night mode was way better too… I wish they had the Pixel Watch at the time because that was on my list of reasons I switched to Apple as the Android Wear options of the time we’re uninspiring at best and lacked several features available on the Apple Watch… Another issue with the Google ecosystem is computing… I also was hooked on Mac and now have become an iPad Pro power user. I really can’t switch to Chromebook because I do a good amount of photo editing plus need to be able to download, edit, and upload a lot of various types of documents for work - not ideal on Chromebook. Samsung’s Galaxy Tab is the only real “competitor” to the iPad and I really don’t want to be locked in Samsung’s skinned Android ecosystem. Also messaging is annoying on Android because Apple hasn’t played ball. You’re left with highly compressed photo and video sharing that is basically unusable/pixelated meaning you have to constantly ask friends, can you re-share that on WhatsApp/FB messenger (which I think is still semi-compressed) or literally anywhere else besides in the native messaging app. I really wish I could go back to Google little world but unless they’re coming up with a serious iPad Pro competitor and figuring out some message solution I don’t know that I can… There are a lot of things about Android that I like better but the few areas Apple edges out are kinda important and annoying to have to work around at times…
I only recently converted to the apple ecosystem. I have been a big android fan since it came out back when I was in college around 2010. I had experienced unlocking, flashing roms, kernels, cpu overclocking/undervolting, and even bricked a few of my phones including the original nexus, nexus S, galaxy s3, lg g3, and lg g5. It was fun and the ultimate goal was to have better performance and battery life(atleast for me). It was only until the oneplus6 that I was totally satisfied with the performance and battery life that I kept it all stock. I had it side by side with the s10e because why not? Then came time I sold the oneplus because I needed something for mild office work and my laptop just broke. Enter the 11inch ipad pro 2018, my first apple device and it just delivered on what I needed it for- mild office work and netflix😅. After a year I sold my s10e and got my first iphone in the 12. Both devices had been with me for a while now and I never really missed android.
I read a linkedin post from a Google employee stating that they are promoted based on successful new projects they deliver. No one receives recognition for supporting and maintaining already existing ones. This would explain the google eco system problem.
1 reason i love the Google ecosystem is it's not about the hardware. I can use Android, iOS, Mac, Windows, Linux, ChromeOS, iPad, Apple Watch, Android TV or Apple TV, I can still use Google services every where. That's one heck of a eco system any company yet to build.
I would like to see a deeper look into the impact of developer confidence on an ecosystem. When I think of an ecosystem, I want all the apps to work together seamlessly across the devices. If a dev sees that everything Google releases gets changed or discontinued, they basically have no confidence that the effort they invest will all be wasted. So each new ecosystem device presumably has less devs making apps for them, and making less effort to make devices work with each other. Im not sure how much this may be affecting Google right now, but I’m sure it’s not gonna get better with the Stadia debacle.
So I've always kind of trashed on Apple for being more expensive than its competitors. Honestly though this is the most convincing argument to use Apple products that I've ever heard, and it's something that I kind of subconsciously know. Honestly after watching this video and just knowing how consistent Apple can be I might buy Apple products simply because of their consistency.
Nailed it. I've been on Pixel every year, and it's been a wild ride never knowing what you are gonna get every year, or if it's gonna work right. When it's time for a new phone you have to spend a lot of time to know if it'll work for you.
An ecosystem has to be thought of beforehand, fortunately enough the engineers at Apple and Steve Jobs thought this through very well. I feel like Google reacted to what Apple did and tried their best to start from scratch like Apple but were (are?) not capable of doing so, too many "good enough" products that don't have a life to iterate and upgrade.

Most things on google CAN be adjusted in settings, which is more than can be said about Apple. You can even download all your data and delete it from Google.
I had to decide between the two ecosystems when I was buying a new phone last year. The big driver for me was HomeKit or Google Home. We went with Apple because my family already had iPhones. When you add kids to the devices, it's much easier to manage with one family app.
A huge driver likely is one simple feature: iMessage. At the foundation of all these devices, they are networking devices, and what is networking? Being connected to others. iMessage is one of the simplest ways to communicate and be connected to others. While messaging apps like Facebook messenger, Telegram, and Google voice can be used from a non-Mac device, it’s just easier to have all SMS and iMessage integrated in any device: Mac, iPad, iPhone, even watch.
very well said! I bought the first iPhone & iPad decided to take a tangent in 2020 w a Pixel 3a. I definitely can see the adhoc development you speak of & was ready to switch back to iPhone & the only reason Google convinced me to stay is they bought back my 3a for exactly what I paid for it so my 6a only cost $150. Meanwhile I got an iPadPro in 2020 & the integration across devices (eg. Focus mode) is very clear & it only makes me want to go back "home" because the Apple ecosystem very much feels evolved from 2008 indeed. I'm giving Google the benefit of the doubt now that they've committed 5 years of updates & still honestly only giving this 6a 3 years max! There are a few things Google does right so it is interesting to straddle both worlds (and have a Linux server to boot :)
You make so many good points! Knowing that Apple’s devices get such good support is a huge part of the reason I’m more willing to spend more money on their higher-end products.
Another big reason that googles ecosystem is so fractured is that their wearables and tablets have never really had a flagship device that has lasted and been iterated on. Aside from android phones, Chromebooks have really been the only thing that have stuck around and adopted widespread market adoption. Samsung is arguably the only manufacturer in the android space that has an established ecosystem worth investing in
There are some problems with this way of looking at things: 1) You're comparing Apple branded products with Google branded products. The difference between Apple and Google is that Apple write (some pretty good) software in order to sell hardware and more recently to get you into their ecosystem, so they have access to your user data and such. Google writes software and (occasionally) creates hardware to showcase those aspects of the software that they'd like to highlight. That has a number of repercussions, but one that really matters is that Apple OSes is on Apple products _only_ whereas Google OSes are on a whole slew of other branded products. Google's goal is, like Apple's second goal, to get your user data and such, but they aren't at all committed to selling you the hardware. (They don't mind selling the hardware, mind you, but they are predicated on it like Apple is.) This brings us to a related repercussion: One aspect of Apple's infrastructure is both pro and con: The cooperative functionality is a real boon to those who don't mind buying all the various products from Apple, but that your choice: Either you buy all the things from Apple or you "give up" some cooperative functionality. Google can't/won't do that. It's important that the cooperative functionality work not just on Google branded devices, but also on as many of the Android OEM devices as possible. On the one hand, the synergy isn't as tight. On the other hand, I don't have to buy from only one manufacturer. I can buy from the manufacturers that innovate in the way that I like the most. The tight integration both helps and hurts Apple. You can clearly see that they keep trying to make the iPad more powerful, but not in such a way that it would truly be competitive with the MacBook. (Sometimes it seems like they actually sabotage the iPad in subtle ways in order to achieve that end.) Google doesn't have to worry that their high-end phone might make it so people won't buy the tablet. Apple does. Personally (and not without a certain level of regret), I've basically stayed away from the Apple ecosystem simply because I simply won't limit myself to a single chain of supply no matter how good a current item in that supply is. Right now, I don't have the most power-efficient laptop available (there's the regret), but I do have a very innovative design with a lot of features that Mac doesn't have right now (and I can still upgrade my RAM if I'd like to do that). I'm sure there are people who are reading this who will only be too willing to tell me how stupid I am for making that choice, but I've given my reasons. I'd say the bottom line is that I agree with you that Apple, by specifying both hardware and software has an advantage in creating a tightly bound ecosystem and there are a number of benefits to users who don't mind being locked into it. I'm just not one of those people.
Honestly, this is a really good analysis. Apple's consistency and incremental upgrade inspires a lot of consumer confidence that there will be reliable interoperability between their devices, but also between new versions of their devices. I own an iPhone 11 Pro Max and an iPad Pro. As things stand, I will need to upgrade my iPhone in a few years while my iPad will likely last much longer. I am entirely confident that when I upgrade to the iPhone 15 or 16, it will remain fully compatible with my iPad, which will by then be a much older device, but nevertheless not obsolete. It will be an iPhone that will do everything my current iPhone does, at most with slightly different UI. I think the only feature that Apple introduced and killed off was 3D touch. Otherwise, they've been very consistent.
Your point about all the Apple products working together regardless of year is a good one. I started with a 5S coming from Nexus phones/tablets, then I bought a 2015 MBP which I had until 2020. But that old MBP worked in tandem with my newer iPads and iPhones. Part of the reason I switched was because google primarily is an AD company and want you to be the product. Although I feel now Apple is definitely heading along that way too. I feel like Samsung phones are kinda tacky with loads of stupid unnecessary features, then you have all the samsung apps doubled up with googles so you get two companies in one mining your data. Also hearing stories about adds within basic apps like contacts, just completely puts me off. Pixel would still be my choice if I had to use an Android though, but I really can’t see that happening, even though I started with android and had fun with messing with custom roms. Now I just want my phone to be secure and work without complications, which Apple does brilliantly.

You forgot to mention it's Google promotion culture that holds them back. Where senior engineers get promoted after launching a new product and move on, that why so many of their products can't be iterated on. I would never in my life trust them to stick around for any new product, especially a hardware one.
I've been an Apple user since I bought my Macintosh Plus and maxed it out at 4MB of RAM many, many years ago. I am heavily invested in the Apple ecosystem, with M1 Mac Mini, M1 iPad Pro, iPhone 11 Pro Max, and Apple Watch. But instead of replacing my aging 2013 MacBook Pro 15" with another MacBook, I switched over to a much less expensive Windows 11 laptop, which is working great after beingin it up to 32GB and 1TB M.2 specs. Apart from some lingering typeface issues related to Adobe products, I'm having success with a "mixed ecosystem." The Chromebook platform is so limited I don't think it can ever be the anchor of its own ecosystem. Any thoughts on this "mixed ecosystem" with the much-more-useful Windows platform?
I have been an Apple user since 2005. iPod, iPhone, Mac, iPad, Watch. I have 4 Macs /MacBook, PowerBook G4, iMac 27" and Mac Pro with a 30" Cinema Display/, got many iPhones, iPads, iPod and watches. With this 17 years of experience I can say that Apple offers the best ecosystem and these products just work well. I probably will stay with Apple for a long long time.
Spot on, this is one of the main reasons i don't like Google devices but also for a few more reasons: - Google Pixel devices not available in many countries including my country. - Importing a Pixel device cost 2x as much if Google doesn't release it in a country - Very few accessories available 99% only available online - No physical stores, no warranty, no technical support or repairs for their devices, no spare parts... - Google doesn't care about your privacy, by going Pixel you literally throw your privacy in the bin.
Not only that, Luke, but a lot of web services of Google get scrapped all together all the time. Hardly any professional of any sort will waste his or her time with a product or service which won't have any continuity. You stick with what is proven and know before hand that will be there when you need it.
I totally agree with everything you said in this video. The only Android phone I was vaguely interested in was the Nothing Phone 1, but in the end I got the iPhone SE3 when my iPhone 7 stopped getting supported, but I'm in so deep in Apple's ecosystem I don't really want to leave.

Apple did this somewhat with the Touch Bar. It came and it went. On the other hand, the MagSafe went, and it came back, along with the missing I/O ports instead USB-C-only, with multiple dongles, fetish. When a company listens to its customers, and doesn’t just abandon an important-to-them feature, they have happier repeat customers, that buy their whole universe of products.

I think there is one fundamental difference. Google Android is fundamentally a multi manufacturer platform. Each manufacturer is motivated to develop the heir own ecosystem USP (unique selling point) That means that differentiation is built in to the Android ecosystem. This situation has certain advantages… many manufacturers mean greater price competition and a whole stew of diverse innovation. But android approach inherently sacrifices apples monopolistically enforced platform integration. Which is why android features so easily come and go. And why Android has such an evanescent approach to platform integration. And, in the end, a collection of different and non integrated products does not create an ecosystem
Funny what Miani mentioned about how there's no indication of Google making a new chromebook. Google was working on a new PixekBook, it was recently revealed that it's been scrapped, and Google has no current plans for making a new Chromebook. To be fair, I have a hard time justifying the purchase of a more expensive Chromebook, when I had managed to get buy for a year and a half with a Lenovo Chromebook for $170. Is the screen stuck in 2010? Yes, but it worked for what I needed. I still have it as a backup device, incase my M1 MacBook Air suddenly dies, and I have to send it in for repairs. Though I'm tempted to buy an older MacBook as a backup device.

Apple acts like a man responsible for their customers and has long-term consistent plans on their products, while Google acts like a child doing experiments on their customer and abandon them immediately after things not going well. Google may have a reputation but they’re onto something now. They’ve started building their own chips and I genuinely think Google wants this fairly new version of their ecosystem to succeed. Same thoughts as well, I've been 5 flagship Xperias, several other Android tablets and smart watches until I got my M1 Macbook Pro at the end of 2020. Last year, I also upgraded to a 13 Pro, and got a Series 8 Apple Watch on its launch day last month. Everything feels well put together despite some bugs that are actually fixed. I don't think I'll be going back to Google's ecosystem anytime soon.
Google is an engine to looking up things on the internet. Apple makes Hard and Software. There is a reason why Apple doest drop a searching engine. Coz we have Google. Google should think the same way. Why try to copy something. And if u do make it better it take your time. One more thing: Google(Android) is made for kids. Apple is made for adults.
My ecosystem that I use can be described like this: "once you're in Chrome, you are home" 90% of stuff that I do happens in a web browser. So for me, the device itself is kind of irrelevant.
I think apple ecosystem just doesn't exist for a lot of people outside US, apple translate app for example just have few languages, maps etc. And in the end you notice using all google services on iphone and it's a pain comparing to pixel, where you enter your google account once and everything sync, works perfectly
My iPhone 4s still communicates with iCloud and shows me the latest photos there. My old MacBook Pro and Air from 2009 and 2010 are still working and connecting to the eco-system. This kind of product compatibility / stable software development throughout the years has become a competitive edge and asset for Apple products.
That’s the beauty of Apple. I can use the latest MacBook to load music onto the original iPod from 2001. iTunes recognizes it perfectly.
The 2007 iPhone also had a wireless earpiece that works quite similarly to AirPods. Unused batteries have long since been dead, but if you still have one that has kept its battery life, you can still use it with modern iPhones. It even has its little status bar icon built into current iOS!

You were spot on with the confidence argument. Google has always had a huge tendency to abandon projects immediately and/or out of nowhere. We've seen this many times already and even recently with the whole Stadia situation. Unless Google actually tries to give their projects continuity and gain consumer trust, their ecosystems will always be doomed to fail from the get-go.
Does the average person really know what Stadia even was or that Google even killed it off? Mostly only techheads know about that reputation.

I like your point, Apple may be boring, or the "same thing every year" but you know more or less what you're getting, and what it will be in 1, 2, 3 years. Getting a Google phone seems like an undue risk as a consumer who wants something predictable, not a cancelled engineering failure in a year.

You're not wrong on any of this, but my position is if you're ignoring the fact one can buy a Chromebook from e.g. HP or Lenovo, a phone from e.g Nokia or Samsung and a watch from e.g. Fitbit or Google, a TV from JVC or Sony and even some smart home bits too and they all work together well, THAT'S the real Google ecosystem and it's way more affordable and useful than apple's in my experience. It doesn't matter that Google don't keep their hardware going because you can just go buy a Google software device from someone else.
I couldn't agree more. I was all in with Google; Pixel phone, Pixel Book, and Google Home, (I even used a Fitbit for about a decade) but it always annoyed me to have to find workarounds to make certain things play nice with each other. Now that I'm in the Apple Ecosystem things are just so much more connected. There's nothing like getting a pair of headphones and it's instantly connected to all of my other devices and switches seamlessly between them, not to mention being able to answer a phone call on my watch, laptop, iPad, or even the phone itself.

Apple may take longer to bring things to market but they tend to stick with them when they do. When I used nothing but Android and Google Pixel phones I used to make fun of Apple as well, but now I can see the benefits.
A lot of people want to customize everything to change up the look or function on a regular basis, I used to be there, but now I just want my stuff to work together so I can do what I need to do when I need to do it. The one thing I do know is that when Apple comes out with the next "WhateverItIs" device or software I'll be able to use it for years to come.
This is exactly why I left the android/google ecosystem a couple of years ago and I never looked back. Once I got my first iPhone it was like I had seen the promised land.

My pixel 3 was abandoned less than 3 years after purchase new from google. It was abandoned on the buggiest version of android 12, and has made the phone unusable.
People do not talk about this enough in reviews.
It is integral that companies make products that break the ecosystem instead of promoting it. Staying in one ecosystem seems the sure shot digital analogue of dystopia and slavery I can think of.
The more the ecosystem grows, the more control the company has over your experience. They control your apps, news, ads, recommendations. They can easily throw you into an echo chamber where you see some part of the world where becoming blind to another part.
Imagine someone tells you to stay at a hotel that you will have to pay for. You can do everything in the hotel. You have a gym, you have office, you have bex, you have films, tv, spa, blue films, magazimes, news, ads, shower, food as per your liking and everything is super convenient, just one facial recognition and you money will be deducted or maybe added to a loan. All happiness and convenience, BUT YOU CANNOT LEAVE THE HOTEL.
I think Google has finally started to see their hardware division (specifically their pixel products) as a main player in the game and not just a proof of concept for enthusiasts.
I think the biggest indicator of this is their new found scope and scale of marketing. For the longest time most of their ads seemed to target reddit tech heads who wanted the latest fun feature to play with. Now they're focused on a much broader/general audience with way bigger campaigns like the NBA/team pixel.

I don't think it's confidence. I don't think the average person is thinking about that. It's probably just someone buys a pixel, but by the time they want a watch or earbuds, the product isn't around anymore. Plus, all of Android works well together. So Google isn't just competing with apple and a products that don't work as well together, they're also competing with Samsung and Nothing and Oppo and Xiaomi and Sony with products that work just as well together. They don't restrict other products like Apple does.
While I've been a Nexus / Pixel user for the better part of a decade, I've gotta say you hit the nail on the head here. My biggest frustration with Google is the longevity of OS support - especially compared to Apple. The Pixel 3XL that I still daily drive and still suits my needs will never receive another update. But I hesitate to update because I still get unlimited backups to Google Photos that doesn't count against my quota (granted it's space saver mode but still) - which is yet another feature they killed off as time went on. But I still like the OS. I still like the Google software ecosystem. But they are making it harder all the time. Killing off Google Music pushed me to Apple Music instead of YT Music. I find I'm shooting more footage on my work-issued iPhone 12 because it's so much easier to airdrop to my MBP than to tether my Pixel 3 to drag-and-drop files or wait for them to sync to Google Photos so I can download them. In any case, the battery on my Pixel 3XL can still get me through about 70% of the day before I need to charge so I'll probably hold on for another year and see what comes down the pipe in 2023. But I'd be lying if after all this time I wasn't tempted to jump ship to iOS at this point....
Also take into consideration how updates on Android is different from iOS. You still get Google play security updates. Camera, messages, photos and many another system apps will continue to be updated for many years on whereas on iOS system apps need whole system updates . Also on iOS you start loosing third part app support after a while of no longer being supported by apple.
For reference the galaxy s4 can still run most apps. The iphone 6 has started losing support

I tried to make the Google system work for years. I switched to the Apple system in 2020 and I won’t go back. Everything syncs flawlessly. All the stuff that worked great in the Google system also works without the Google system. I don’t own a Mac tho, windows for pc. All my portable devices are Apple now.

It all started in 2017 when I bought an iPad Pro. Then my Windows computer took a dump and everything was gone. My backup had also failed. Bought a late 2015 refurbed iMac on a friends reccomendation. Then the iPhone 11 Pro Max, my 1st iPhone. Now I have an iPhone 13 Pro, Apple watch 7, iPad Air4, M1 Mac mini and an M1 Macbook Air, as well as Air Pods Pro 1st gen. Apple sucks you in slowly. LOL That said, everything meshes together and works quite well. I wonder if I'll be able to escape, should the need arise! Haha

There are some valid points here. But the one gaping hole is that the devices aren't really their ecosystem. It's the software. Android, Gmail, search. They don't halve to focus entirely on hardware because they have some many hardware partners. I've been fully embedded in the "Google" ecosystem for decades, but I've got from Google to Motorola to Razer to Nubia. I've had multiple smartwatch manufacturers and it all works. In fact, many people use Googles ecosystem on their Apple phones. One tech reviewer described his iPhone as nothing more than a conduit to his Google apps.

I think the main difference is in mindset. of both the users and the companies Google, naturally, has by far the tightest integration when it comes to their web-based applications. However, when it comes to software like Android and ChromeOS, Google maintains interoperability because they work with multiple manufacturers besides themselves. So, really, is there a need for an ecosystem? An example: Samsung's earbuds work just as well, if not better, than pixel buds on my pixel phone. They connect the moment I open the case, and unlike the pixel buds that have intermittent signal drops they work nigh flawlessly. The beauty of not being within the Apple ecosystem is choice. I use a windows laptop, a linux workstation, and an android phone, because they best suit my needs. They all work together. Maybe there isn't as tight integration as Apple's ecosystem, but I'm not willing to compromise my everyday workflow and my wallet to move over for an ecosystem that I don't need. The whole idea that Google needs to focus on their ecosystem ignores the fact that very few users on this side actually buy everything from the same manufacturer. It's the mentality of Mac and Iphone being applied to a completely different, much more open and much wider space.
This is the best take I've seen in the comments. I don't *want* an ecosystem to be locked into. For me, different form factors and different OSes all have different use cases, and quite frankly, Apple's products are too restricted for me. Not to sound like an Android fanboy as I've been somewhat seriously debating getting a new phone and getting an iPhone this time around, but Apple's products simply just don't feel geared towards power users.
Companies that can make money should not only make a good product alone, but also do a good job in the ecosystem, so that consumers will buy multiple products to experience the ecosystem and spend more money.

I have an HP laptop (Windows 10) and a POCO X3 Pro (Android) and as an ecosystem, it works absolutely fine for my needs.
(I managed to make a working ecosystem with Linux and Android as well 😄)
Another big plus of the Apple ecosystem is that because they support their products for so long a new consumer can get into Apple by buying something a few years old that’s significantly cheaper than their brand new products. Like buying an iPhone X or even an iPhone 7-8 for a tenth of the price of the the new iPhone just to see if you actually like the Apple experience.

Apple can wake me up when they let me customize the phone the way I want like using landscape mode on the home screen. Having a completely clean home screen, and using third party launchers and side loading apps. I can't even access the amazing hub of apps available on F-droid on an iPhone. And of course the unforgivable dragging of their feet with lightning.

I'm going to dissent a little. You left out the Google Home/Nest part of the ecosystem, which Apple lags far behind (Amazon is Google's main competitor). I have a Google Home/Next screen or speaker in every room of my house and use it many times every day. It works great with my Nest thermostat, Nest doorbell, various Google-compatible IoT devices, RUclips and RUclipsTV subscriptions, and my Android phone. It's much more important to me than any kind of watch, which I have no desire for. On the other hand, I have no desire for a Chromebook. Instead, I have a MacBook, an iPad, and Windows laptop. Even though I haven't bough into one single ecosystem, I don't feel like I am missing out.
Big reason why I switched from Android to an iPhone is companies like Samsung seemingly dropping software support as soon as the next phone comes out. It's frustrating as hell. My old phone is a perfectly good phone, but it committed the crime of being released in 2018. So Samsung doesn't support it. There is NOTHING wrong with the phone, it can and should support the latest software updates, but it's stuck on a version of Android from 2019 and security updates were intermittent with months in between AT BEST. I shouldn't HAVE to use software hacks just to have an up to date OS.
Recently got myself an iPhone SE (2022) while I save up for a more pro model that I hope will last me a long time.
Apple's ecosystem also has another huge advantage - silicon. Because Apple designs the processors in every product it means they work seamlessly together, e.g. AirPlaying your MacBook to your Apple TV, or controlling your AirPods with your Apple Watch. Google simply can't do that, and it all adds up to the seamless experience.
Very good points here. I like to think that Google understands these points now and is why they are saying "It's all coming together." I think a strong ecosystem is the focus, finally, and I have invested in what they have available right now. Time will tell though on how it goes. They are working hard to make people forget the past let downs.
Google's "ecosystem" is mostly their services which work across all platforms, even Apple's.
I'm so deep into Apple's ecosystem that I'm totally stuck. My Company may be moving away from our MacBook Pro's and without it just causes a monkey wrench. I text, FT meetings, answer calls, etc. on my MacBook. With Window's I'm screwed. Same thing happened whey I had my Note 20, just threw a monkey wrench in the chain. I think my next phone will be a Samsung Z-Fold if I'm getting a Windows machine next. Then I'll get the Samsung Watch and Buds. EDIT - the reason our Company may move away from MAC, we aren't getting 6-7 years out of them like we once did. I changed my 2016 MAC in 2021 due to swollen battery which destroyed the screen and trackpad. Then a colleague 2019 MAC display stopped working and we paid to have it fixed. The quality is down.
it's possibly the worst time to switch now as I suspect the current gen of macs is built much better, they're not about to ruin their entry into desktop processors.
I don't think the build quality of Macs is down or has ever been down, the problem rather seems to be the form over function design of the 2016-2019 MacBook pros, they are just too thin. Also with the better design since 2020 and especially their own chips, I'd guess the current MacBooks could well become the longest-lasting ones made so far.

Apple is so committed to thier features that they will keep the lightning port and keep using the first generation Apple pencil in their products.
I agree that the Apple eco system is better if you want to be in an ecosystem. However, people like myself that would rather be out of an ecosystem and use as much open source software as possible are better off going with the android side of things.
I've got an 11 Pro Max, Airpods Pro and the Apple Watch. Recently I've ordered the Pixel 7 Pro to try it out and got the Pixel Watch as well. Just like you pointed out, with Apple if you want another device to complement your setup, the options are there and are clearly laid out. With Android or Google, I don't have an easy or clear choice, not even from a giant like Google. Their new phone is good, but the watch is rubbish and earphones are meh at best.
Then let's say that you do get an Android phone, earbuds and a watch, but they don't work well with eachother like the Apple devices. Yes, the Apple devices are "locked", too simple, but I think that's their selling point: they just work!

Currently in the Apple ecosystem but was a Nexus, Samsung, and Pixel user for a long while… To start, I loved my Pixel phone & sincerely miss the gesture functionalities on Pixel Buds along with Google Assistant (the only competent virtual assistant). Also miss how much better the cross-app communication is on Android… I feel like if you click to open an app in iOS safari it almost never pulls you up to the item you were viewing since it routes things through the App Store and then to the app, losing where you left off in translation. I liked the images that my Pixel produced more too - they we’re less flat and more vivid than my current iPhone photos IMO and night mode was way better too… I wish they had the Pixel Watch at the time because that was on my list of reasons I switched to Apple as the Android Wear options of the time we’re uninspiring at best and lacked several features available on the Apple Watch… Another issue with the Google ecosystem is computing… I also was hooked on Mac and now have become an iPad Pro power user. I really can’t switch to Chromebook because I do a good amount of photo editing plus need to be able to download, edit, and upload a lot of various types of documents for work - not ideal on Chromebook. Samsung’s Galaxy Tab is the only real “competitor” to the iPad and I really don’t want to be locked in Samsung’s skinned Android ecosystem. Also messaging is annoying on Android because Apple hasn’t played ball. You’re left with highly compressed photo and video sharing that is basically unusable/pixelated meaning you have to constantly ask friends, can you re-share that on WhatsApp/FB messenger (which I think is still semi-compressed) or literally anywhere else besides in the native messaging app.
I really wish I could go back to Google little world but unless they’re coming up with a serious iPad Pro competitor and figuring out some message solution I don’t know that I can… There are a lot of things about Android that I like better but the few areas Apple edges out are kinda important and annoying to have to work around at times…

I only recently converted to the apple ecosystem. I have been a big android fan since it came out back when I was in college around 2010. I had experienced unlocking, flashing roms, kernels, cpu overclocking/undervolting, and even bricked a few of my phones including the original nexus, nexus S, galaxy s3, lg g3, and lg g5. It was fun and the ultimate goal was to have better performance and battery life(atleast for me). It was only until the oneplus6 that I was totally satisfied with the performance and battery life that I kept it all stock. I had it side by side with the s10e because why not? Then came time I sold the oneplus because I needed something for mild office work and my laptop just broke. Enter the 11inch ipad pro 2018, my first apple device and it just delivered on what I needed it for- mild office work and netflix😅. After a year I sold my s10e and got my first iphone in the 12. Both devices had been with me for a while now and I never really missed android.
Seriosly my Samsung S3 is still Communicating with my Google Ecosystem.
I read a linkedin post from a Google employee stating that they are promoted based on successful new projects they deliver. No one receives recognition for supporting and maintaining already existing ones. This would explain the google eco system problem.
Not to mention all the chat and music services google launched then abandoned. I remembered liking google play music a lot until that was discontinued
1 reason i love the Google ecosystem is it's not about the hardware. I can use Android, iOS, Mac, Windows, Linux, ChromeOS, iPad, Apple Watch, Android TV or Apple TV, I can still use Google services every where. That's one heck of a eco system any company yet to build.
I would like to see a deeper look into the impact of developer confidence on an ecosystem.
When I think of an ecosystem, I want all the apps to work together seamlessly across the devices. If a dev sees that everything Google releases gets changed or discontinued, they basically have no confidence that the effort they invest will all be wasted. So each new ecosystem device presumably has less devs making apps for them, and making less effort to make devices work with each other. Im not sure how much this may be affecting Google right now, but I’m sure it’s not gonna get better with the Stadia debacle.
Google sells its services to Apple on a huge scale. It is the principal search engine on Apple, and has a a constantly updated chrome app.
So I've always kind of trashed on Apple for being more expensive than its competitors. Honestly though this is the most convincing argument to use Apple products that I've ever heard, and it's something that I kind of subconsciously know. Honestly after watching this video and just knowing how consistent Apple can be I might buy Apple products simply because of their consistency.

Nailed it. I've been on Pixel every year, and it's been a wild ride never knowing what you are gonna get every year, or if it's gonna work right. When it's time for a new phone you have to spend a lot of time to know if it'll work for you.

An ecosystem has to be thought of beforehand, fortunately enough the engineers at Apple and Steve Jobs thought this through very well. I feel like Google reacted to what Apple did and tried their best to start from scratch like Apple but were (are?) not capable of doing so, too many "good enough" products that don't have a life to iterate and upgrade.

Most things on google CAN be adjusted in settings, which is more than can be said about Apple. You can even download all your data and delete it from Google.

I had to decide between the two ecosystems when I was buying a new phone last year. The big driver for me was HomeKit or Google Home. We went with Apple because my family already had iPhones. When you add kids to the devices, it's much easier to manage with one family app.
Homekit is dogshit but it's what apple has to deal with.. oh well
People who use the word “ecosystem” with any company other than Apple, have no idea what “ecosystem” means.
A huge driver likely is one simple feature: iMessage. At the foundation of all these devices, they are networking devices, and what is networking? Being connected to others. iMessage is one of the simplest ways to communicate and be connected to others. While messaging apps like Facebook messenger, Telegram, and Google voice can be used from a non-Mac device, it’s just easier to have all SMS and iMessage integrated in any device: Mac, iPad, iPhone, even watch.

very well said! I bought the first iPhone & iPad decided to take a tangent in 2020 w a Pixel 3a. I definitely can see the adhoc development you speak of & was ready to switch back to iPhone & the only reason Google convinced me to stay is they bought back my 3a for exactly what I paid for it so my 6a only cost $150. Meanwhile I got an iPadPro in 2020 & the integration across devices (eg. Focus mode) is very clear & it only makes me want to go back "home" because the Apple ecosystem very much feels evolved from 2008 indeed. I'm giving Google the benefit of the doubt now that they've committed 5 years of updates & still honestly only giving this 6a 3 years max! There are a few things Google does right so it is interesting to straddle both worlds (and have a Linux server to boot :)

Another big reason that googles ecosystem is so fractured is that their wearables and tablets have never really had a flagship device that has lasted and been iterated on. Aside from android phones, Chromebooks have really been the only thing that have stuck around and adopted widespread market adoption. Samsung is arguably the only manufacturer in the android space that has an established ecosystem worth investing in
There are some problems with this way of looking at things: 1) You're comparing Apple branded products with Google branded products. The difference between Apple and Google is that Apple write (some pretty good) software in order to sell hardware and more recently to get you into their ecosystem, so they have access to your user data and such. Google writes software and (occasionally) creates hardware to showcase those aspects of the software that they'd like to highlight. That has a number of repercussions, but one that really matters is that Apple OSes is on Apple products _only_ whereas Google OSes are on a whole slew of other branded products. Google's goal is, like Apple's second goal, to get your user data and such, but they aren't at all committed to selling you the hardware. (They don't mind selling the hardware, mind you, but they are predicated on it like Apple is.)
This brings us to a related repercussion: One aspect of Apple's infrastructure is both pro and con: The cooperative functionality is a real boon to those who don't mind buying all the various products from Apple, but that your choice: Either you buy all the things from Apple or you "give up" some cooperative functionality. Google can't/won't do that. It's important that the cooperative functionality work not just on Google branded devices, but also on as many of the Android OEM devices as possible. On the one hand, the synergy isn't as tight. On the other hand, I don't have to buy from only one manufacturer. I can buy from the manufacturers that innovate in the way that I like the most.
The tight integration both helps and hurts Apple. You can clearly see that they keep trying to make the iPad more powerful, but not in such a way that it would truly be competitive with the MacBook. (Sometimes it seems like they actually sabotage the iPad in subtle ways in order to achieve that end.) Google doesn't have to worry that their high-end phone might make it so people won't buy the tablet. Apple does.
Personally (and not without a certain level of regret), I've basically stayed away from the Apple ecosystem simply because I simply won't limit myself to a single chain of supply no matter how good a current item in that supply is. Right now, I don't have the most power-efficient laptop available (there's the regret), but I do have a very innovative design with a lot of features that Mac doesn't have right now (and I can still upgrade my RAM if I'd like to do that). I'm sure there are people who are reading this who will only be too willing to tell me how stupid I am for making that choice, but I've given my reasons.
I'd say the bottom line is that I agree with you that Apple, by specifying both hardware and software has an advantage in creating a tightly bound ecosystem and there are a number of benefits to users who don't mind being locked into it. I'm just not one of those people.

Honestly, this is a really good analysis. Apple's consistency and incremental upgrade inspires a lot of consumer confidence that there will be reliable interoperability between their devices, but also between new versions of their devices.
I own an iPhone 11 Pro Max and an iPad Pro. As things stand, I will need to upgrade my iPhone in a few years while my iPad will likely last much longer. I am entirely confident that when I upgrade to the iPhone 15 or 16, it will remain fully compatible with my iPad, which will by then be a much older device, but nevertheless not obsolete. It will be an iPhone that will do everything my current iPhone does, at most with slightly different UI.
I think the only feature that Apple introduced and killed off was 3D touch. Otherwise, they've been very consistent.

Your point about all the Apple products working together regardless of year is a good one. I started with a 5S coming from Nexus phones/tablets, then I bought a 2015 MBP which I had until 2020. But that old MBP worked in tandem with my newer iPads and iPhones.
Part of the reason I switched was because google primarily is an AD company and want you to be the product. Although I feel now Apple is definitely heading along that way too. I feel like Samsung phones are kinda tacky with loads of stupid unnecessary features, then you have all the samsung apps doubled up with googles so you get two companies in one mining your data. Also hearing stories about adds within basic apps like contacts, just completely puts me off.
Pixel would still be my choice if I had to use an Android though, but I really can’t see that happening, even though I started with android and had fun with messing with custom roms. Now I just want my phone to be secure and work without complications, which Apple does brilliantly.

You forgot to mention it's Google promotion culture that holds them back. Where senior engineers get promoted after launching a new product and move on, that why so many of their products can't be iterated on. I would never in my life trust them to stick around for any new product, especially a hardware one.
I've been an Apple user since I bought my Macintosh Plus and maxed it out at 4MB of RAM many, many years ago. I am heavily invested in the Apple ecosystem, with M1 Mac Mini, M1 iPad Pro, iPhone 11 Pro Max, and Apple Watch. But instead of replacing my aging 2013 MacBook Pro 15" with another MacBook, I switched over to a much less expensive Windows 11 laptop, which is working great after beingin it up to 32GB and 1TB M.2 specs. Apart from some lingering typeface issues related to Adobe products, I'm having success with a "mixed ecosystem." The Chromebook platform is so limited I don't think it can ever be the anchor of its own ecosystem. Any thoughts on this "mixed ecosystem" with the much-more-useful Windows platform?
I have been an Apple user since 2005. iPod, iPhone, Mac, iPad, Watch. I have 4 Macs /MacBook, PowerBook G4, iMac 27" and Mac Pro with a 30" Cinema Display/, got many iPhones, iPads, iPod and watches.
With this 17 years of experience I can say that Apple offers the best ecosystem and these products just work well. I probably will stay with Apple for a long long time.

Spot on, this is one of the main reasons i don't like Google devices but also for a few more reasons:
- Google Pixel devices not available in many countries including my country.
- Importing a Pixel device cost 2x as much if Google doesn't release it in a country
- Very few accessories available 99% only available online
- No physical stores, no warranty, no technical support or repairs for their devices, no spare parts...
- Google doesn't care about your privacy, by going Pixel you literally throw your privacy in the bin.
Not only that, Luke, but a lot of web services of Google get scrapped all together all the time. Hardly any professional of any sort will waste his or her time with a product or service which won't have any continuity. You stick with what is proven and know before hand that will be there when you need it.
I totally agree with everything you said in this video. The only Android phone I was vaguely interested in was the Nothing Phone 1, but in the end I got the iPhone SE3 when my iPhone 7 stopped getting supported, but I'm in so deep in Apple's ecosystem I don't really want to leave.

Apple did this somewhat with the Touch Bar. It came and it went. On the other hand, the MagSafe went, and it came back, along with the missing I/O ports instead USB-C-only, with multiple dongles, fetish. When a company listens to its customers, and doesn’t just abandon an important-to-them feature, they have happier repeat customers, that buy their whole universe of products.

Why did he not buy the Google Pixel State tablet from the Google Store website since it is where you are more guaranteed to get your products more on time to ship to you.
I think there is one fundamental difference. Google Android is fundamentally a multi manufacturer platform. Each manufacturer is motivated to develop the heir own ecosystem USP (unique selling point) That means that differentiation is built in to the Android ecosystem.
This situation has certain advantages… many manufacturers mean greater price competition and a whole stew of diverse innovation.
But android approach inherently sacrifices apples monopolistically enforced platform integration. Which is why android features so easily come and go. And why Android has such an evanescent approach to platform integration. And, in the end, a collection of different and non integrated products does not create an ecosystem

Google was working on a new PixekBook, it was recently revealed that it's been scrapped, and Google has no current plans for making a new Chromebook.
To be fair, I have a hard time justifying the purchase of a more expensive Chromebook, when I had managed to get buy for a year and a half with a Lenovo Chromebook for $170. Is the screen stuck in 2010? Yes, but it worked for what I needed.
I still have it as a backup device, incase my M1 MacBook Air suddenly dies, and I have to send it in for repairs.
Though I'm tempted to buy an older MacBook as a backup device.
don’t forget there services like google music or google play music, my mom and i invested thousands of dollars for our song library that we would both own like itunes but they canned the service and lead many people like myself to lose all my favorite songs and all my music and replaced it with the horror of a music app, which is youtube music, all my purchases gone, just like that, i didn’t even get my money back and i have to pay a subscription to listen to music i already bought and own, now what’s left of my music library is on my old galaxy s3 mini, it’s so sad man

Apple acts like a man responsible for their customers and has long-term consistent plans on their products, while Google acts like a child doing experiments on their customer and abandon them immediately after things not going well. How can customers have faith in you if you yourself don't?

Google may have a reputation but they’re onto something now. They’ve started building their own chips and I genuinely think Google wants this fairly new version of their ecosystem to succeed. From the pixel 6 onwards, they seem like they know what they’re doing. I hope they keep it up. This guy is only criticising Googles past
Same thoughts as well, I've been 5 flagship Xperias, several other Android tablets and smart watches until I got my M1 Macbook Pro at the end of 2020. Last year, I also upgraded to a 13 Pro, and got a Series 8 Apple Watch on its launch day last month. Everything feels well put together despite some bugs that are actually fixed. I don't think I'll be going back to Google's ecosystem anytime soon.
