my husband and i use the entire double 12 set and play 2-player. the full game with all 13 rounds will take long, yes, but we play a few rounds a night, and it's fun! i don't recommend cutting down the number of dominos. Using the full set is more fun!
Thanks for the clear, concise instructions. I had the same experience as remcat03 in that the instructions that come with the game might as well have been written in Greek. I like the option of playing the second tile off a double on a different tile, but agree that this should only be used with experienced players. I'll look for that tile guide for different numbers of players on the internet. Good Job!
my family and I play a slightly different version of Mexican train Domino's (think of it like a 2.0 version). I'm planning on doing a Video on how to play my family's variant on this game
Let’s say it’s a two player game and the first player puts a double and play a dominoe in his lane and the second player didn’t put anything yet, can he start his lane if the Double is in the mexican train?
if the train is open it can be played on but if you play on your train no one else can play on it. you can however start another persons train for them which is actually a good strategy on your part.
double locking on all sides sucks for both the person trying to perform the move and those who are about to fall victim to it. this occurs when all sides of the train or chicken foot are blocked off by doubles that cannot be matched and essentially locking the game in to a tie. its risky because it involves you having to keep some doubles which can cost you huge points should you not be able to pull off such a move.
I bought a set of Dominoes with instructions and it mentions different games such as this one...how come it didn't come with the "trains"? How can I show and teach my grandson??
+TheGameBoyGeek - Hi Quality Hi Energy Board Game Reviews Thank you muchly for getting back to me so quickly! I have another question if I may...my grandson is 4 1/2 going on 20 lol he'll be 5 on 1/1 but I'd thought to introduce him to the game even though he may not quite get it all as I'm kind of confused still.. confused about the game itself...maybe I have to watch your video again...
+Nancy Marrone Omg just read my comment and didn't see my question...please, excuse me..as you can see I'm confused lol.. I'll watch your video again and if I have further questions, I sure to ask. Thanks again! :)
The rules in my set state one MUST satisfy any double by following up with a single number of that same double number. You are demonstrating that one does not have to follow up the double they play??!!
Jeez… I played this for the 1st time a couple of days ago with friends and had a great time so I thought I'de buy a set and get the family involved. Well, in every vid I've watched so far, the rules differ in one way or another from other vids watched …… And NONE of the vids seem to use the same rules as when we played a few days ago LoL >,
Yes, it seems they differ quite a bit between versions. I'm not even familiar with the play of multiple dominoes on the first turn. The most familiar variation I've seen on RUclips that also makes some sense to me is from a version from Tactic, which only differs from the one in this video by the play of multiple dominoes on the personal train on the first turn. I assume a second double may not be played on another train as the second domino, even if it's the only domino that matches with an end of one of the trains. I have a version from Goliath, which differs quite a bit from this one here. The rules' differences in this version are: - Players get their dominoes at the setup before a double is selected; the player with the highest double in their 'hand' places that double in the center of the station and becomes the starting player of the round; - Single domino play on the first turn; - A player can only lay a domino on the Mexican Train after starting their own private train; - A player playing a double must close it with the second domino mandatorily, if possible. I got this as a present. Allthough I like the main concept, I don't like the particular rules of this Goliath version. The setup is a bit chaotic and players will expose some information on doubles yhey might have while not having the highest one. The starting player mechanic is out of balance, since that player starts with one domino less than the other players AND gets to lay another domino to start their private train if they can. But my biggest problem with this variation is the rule that forces a player to immediately close a double they just played with a second domino, because it takes away a lot of the tactical power that allows a player to tear apart an opponent's hidden train. A player can still cause a double to be open at yhe end of their turn, but it will also cause them to mandatorily take a domino from the pot if they can't close yhe double. The placement of the second domino on another train, which the Tactic version allows, is better for that reason; there is an open double, without the player having to draw another domino from the pot.
I have just commenced watching this review, the comment 'I kinda outgrew them' when referring to playing dominoes. You do not play dominoes, but games devised to use dominoes, just as until you designate which game you are play which use playing cards, whist, bridge, poker etc. If you 'outgrew' them, you only ever played the simplest form of game using them! There are a great number of games one can play using dominoes, some requiring a very high level of skill and strategy, you just haven't encountered them! I'll continue watching the remaining clip now to see what objectivity is presented about this particular game.
I am so frustrated trying to learn this completely confusing game. Too many people interpreting the rules differently. If I was Mexican, I would be pissed off that this game was named after my people. BUT, this video is almost the most clearly explained. Thanks GameBoyGeek.
Im mexican and i really dont know why this variant of dominoes is called like that, but who cares, for real. And the other thing is that everyone explain how its played at its own way, so yes, it confusses. And yes, this is one of the best explanations out there.
I’ve watched seriously like 10 other videos and yours was the only one I could freaking understand 😂 cheers!

ugagradrn I agree
If you throw a double & can satisfy the double you MUST play it.
great explanation! We "learned" how to play last night but found out that directions were not quite accurate. Thank you for such a clear presentation.

I feel kind of dumb, it seems that there are several ways to play; I would like to figure out one version.
Thanks Angel! I hope you subscribe and enjoy the channel!
Thank you for making this video!!
Best video on Mexican Train. Thanks!
Thanks Susan!

BlueTarantulaProductions so why don't you do I, if you do I will subscribe to you
when you played your 3/0 on the 3, could you have played your 3/3 then the 3/0, would that have been a better move?
In this variation, what happens if, on your first turn, you can play ALL your dominoes at once? Do you immediately win the round?
yes you would win...its hard to do a shut out like that given that there are not as many doubles as there are other dominos.
Let’s say it’s a two player game and the first player puts a double and play a dominoe in his lane and the second player didn’t put anything yet, can he start his lane if the Double is in the mexican train?

You didn’t play on your train but started a new one, don’t you put a train on it too?
I bought a set of Dominoes with instructions and it mentions different games such as this one...how come it didn't come with the "trains"? How can I show and teach my grandson??
+Nancy Marrone Other than buying an official version of the Mexican Train, you could use different coins for the different trains as icons?

Unfortunately being a mass market game and with many different editions and publishers the rules can vary depending on the version you have.

Can you do a tutorial of spinner dominoes with travel version
Did not understand how it was played because it seem seems people play it differently
Do you know 74刀's rules?

definitely the best video explanation.
The explanation yet on RUclips. There's a lot of bad ones out there.
