I personally dont like the sound of them, but that i realise is subjective.
I think if it comes to heavy 8s I think my vote for number 1 and two spot is
Westbury as they are classic prewar Taylors and then the 40cwt of Adelaide.
There is a very punchy sound of these bells, i think it is due more to the tower than the actual bells

We did ring a quarter peal of plain bob major at Westbury in the morning of the same day as Sherborne and I agree that Westbury are much better

@@RingerPeter There is something about pre war heavy Taylor bells I love, they tend to have a drone about them that is probably less noticeable in post war bells.
Classic examples are Yorkminster, Worcester and Winchester and Inverary.
Obviously post war bells are great, I simply want to know why the are different.
Obviously the bell profile and the metal mix would change things but assuming these remain unchanged then perhaps a variation in tuning is the reason.
What I do know is that tuning is a very complex subject and there is a great video on youtube about it my Nigel Taylor who was the tuner for whitechapel for 40 years..
I also find it interesting how comparing Whitechapel and Taylor tenors the Taylor bells seem to have more breath to them.
