Ren saved my life. I have fibromyalgia, bipolar, PTSD and was on a ton of meds. Ren's music inspired me to get off an SSRJ(that was slowly making me crazy(er)). Stopping that made it possible to get off hydrocodone, alprazolam & Ambien. I regained my sanity and decreased my pain levels. 💜💜💜

Dr Mikes medical channel talked awhile back how he as a Dr counterintuitively sometimes manages chronic physical pain by slowly removing pain meds from chronic sufferers, letting them feel it, and then it goes away....pain is pain, so makes sense that are times that can also apply to chronic emotional trauma as well

Sending my thanks to the entire team at Atma MD. I'm a former workaholic that retired a few years ago after working hard for almost 50 years. As an introvert, quitting work left me with very few social contacts. I've been following Ren for about 2 years and his music brings me a lot of joy. Please consider another of Ren's songs featuring a mental health topic: "Dominos." it's not an easy listen but beautiful.

The best musical “siblings”. Ren has called her his sister from another mister and a female version of himself due to their similar approach to music. For me I think it shows in the fact that they both have that something special that draws you in and demands attention. To see it fully for Chinchilla, check out her live version of Fingers.
This song always reminds me that one of the (many) things that makes Ren so great is his ability to know exactly when to be complex, keep it simple, or even use silence to get his message across. He isn’t flexing his guitar skills in this, just playing exactly what is needed with that beautiful guitar tone. And my favourite line in this is so simple, totally devoid of all the clever metaphors that he is so good at using, but it hits soooo hard: “I’m scared of being okay cause all things change”. I think anyone who has been through any struggles can relate to that feeling of not trusting that anything good will last. You can’t just enjoy it because you’re busy worrying about how long it will last and the feeling that will come when it’s gone. And then good days just make the darkness feel so much worse because you remember the light that’s gone… Ren is so special. He keeps being so relatable that it reminds us that we’re not alone. And we will always make room for more RENegades down the Ren rabbit hole cause we all need his light in the darkness 🐰🕳️
If you want more emotional singing from Ren, please check out one of my personal favourites: Crutch feat. Bibi. It’s an older song from before he was finally correctly diagnosed with Lyme disease and was written after a breakdown following multiple emergency trips to the hospital. It is heart wrenching and beautiful. And very different from everything else in his catalogue.

I wish they’d fix the subtitles for some of the videos, as it says “it’s a beautiful shame” not “a beautiful shape”. Which hits a bit differently.
The amount of times I’ve felt it’s been bittersweet being on meds, yes to an extent it can help numb some of the horrific feelings, but it made me feel like such a robot I couldn’t even enjoy some of the good things. Years down the line after being off SSRI’s I’m paying the price, no libido or desire to have any physical contact, the head zaps coming off Venlafaxine, the attempt of my life on Prozac, these things still haunt you years after being off something you hoped would help.

I'll be the first to acknowledge those mental health professionals who truly care for their patients, BUT, in Ren's case, either incompetency or complacency led to his mis-diagnosis and subsequent harmful treatment. Understandably, Ren is bitter and in many of his videos has harsh words for those who treated him in the past. Too many therapists seem content to "push more pills", knowing that the side effects are damaging to the patient. The sarcastic, bitter, emotional lyrics ("Take this one, wash it down & you'll be fine....don't cry -'cause there's a pill for everything.....take it just in case") reveal his inner feelings.....thanks for reacting to Ren

We come into this world naked, not remembering our past lives, to learn how to embody love. We are awareness of pure love energy. We are spirit and this avatar our spirit has activated is our spirits costume to experience the 3rd dimension. Also for the awareness that you are to see itself. Remember this is not your body nor your mind. Im 54 and struggled with mental illness ( fear, anxieties). I finally figured out how to live in this avatar. Be love cause thats all you are pure love. Your reality is the reflection of you. Its the mirror image of you. So open your eyes in the morning and embrace love joy and happiness and the universe will grant you that everyday. Peace and love to all that read this🫂🫂

Love Music 1 - 4, Power, Back on 74/Message in a Bottle... Ren has a lot of just fun stuff. He also has a lot of beautiful (but more message or serious) videos like Crutch and Dominoes that don't get enough attention. You have several unspoken assumptions that I find questionable built into your "detoxification" model, at least insomuch as you represent it in this video.
First, you assume that there is some "true", "baseline" version of our consciousness, and that substances in our environment interfere with that, often in unhealthy ways. While it's simply a fact that our environment contains many substances that alter our consciousness in many different ways, it is not at all clear that there is any underlying "true" or "baseline" version of who we are. Humans have never existed in an environment that's free of strong exogenous pressures that shape our consciousness; you lament all the "crap in our tap water", but needing to drink fermented beverages for breakfast, lunch, and dinner because untreated water was so dangerous was not exactly a superior alternative for the thousands of years that humans lived with that as the best known alternative. Microplastics or whatever the latest thing to be worried about (and there may, indeed, be very good reason to worry about these things) are probably not worse for us than being malnourished once every three winters or so, or having limbs amputated because of simple cuts and the lack of antibiotics. I would argue (and this certainly isn't an original thought-- the first time I was exposed to it was via Goffman's "The Presentation of Self in Everyday Life") that there isn't any "true" version of us; we are what we are at any particular point in time. I'm just as much "me" if I'm high on opioids as I am if I've done a 3 month detoxification program. Sure, I'm different, but there's absolutely no a priori reason to assume that the detoxed version is somehow closer to a hypothetical underlying "real" version of me. Goffman drove that point home by continually referring to the different ways that we behave in different settings as "face work", rather than "mask work"; the latter implies that there's some relatively fixed version of yourself, and that as your behavior changes according to social circumstances, you're in some sense acting or playing a role, whereas the former forces us to confront the possibility that there is no "me" that's putting on a mask-- I am who am I at any particular moment, and the fact that I behave and even think quite differently in different social contexts just means that my consciousness is much more fluid than most of us are comfortable thinking that it is.
Another strongly implied assumption that I take issue with seems to be that "natural" or "pristine" is better than "manufactured" or "artificial", whether it's foods or medicine or chemicals in the environment. The fact of the matter is that humans in a state of nature are likely to lead quite miserable lives. Just antibiotics alone have relieved incalculable amounts of human suffering, and they are not in any way, shape, or form "natural". A diabetic taking insulin is infinitely better off than being dead. And though our incredibly primitive understanding of how the brain works means that most of the drugs we have to treat mental illness or even just mental issues are poorly targeted, have inconsistent effects and inconsistent side effects, etc., that is an indictment of where we are in our scientific quest to understand how we function, not of the notion of using artificially designed and manufactured medicine to cause changes in our brain chemistry; and even with all the baggage most of these medicines currently come with, in many instances they are still a net positive-- sometimes a huge net positive-- in many peoples' lives. A substance is either helpful for a given situation or not; whether the origin of that substance is "natural" or "artificial" should not make any difference whatsoever to how we evaluate its efficacy. While you stop short of explicitly saying so, one gets the impression that like so many people who have realized the myriad flaws with our current medical system (and our current way of life, for that matter), you've over-adjusted by almost fetishizing the notion that humans are more healthy and better adjusted the fewer chemicals/medicines/substances we consume, and again, there's simply no a priori reason to believe this would be true.
I think it's important to remember that if we're to take Ren at his word, his ultimate salvation, health-wise, was due to a stem cell transplant-- pretty much near the bleeding edge of medical science, and not something that could in any way be mimicked by any "natural" process. Yes, he has had horrible experiences with the medical profession; and as the spouse of someone with an autoimmune disease and other chronic illnesses, I have seen the staggering indifference and incompetence that he talks about first-hand. But it would be disingenuous to use his criticisms of how the medical system can fail us as somehow implying that it always fails us, or that it is unfixable, or that we're better off seeking alternatives like homeopathy or whatever. His story is ultimately one of the triumph of medical science and invasive medical intervention, not of getting better by distancing himself from the system while it was failing him.
