Great upload , thanks. This film shows that, in the hands of a well trained driver, a Chiffy was quite a nippy and agile beast, despite all the furore about the L60 engine.

L60 was improved along the line plus chieftain’s main use is to sit in favorable position and snipe the soviet hordes. It’s gun is also quite good. I have found that people quite often l’y forget how weak chieftains armor is (without later appliqué armor that is). During the Iran Iraq war, the Iraqis captured some chieftain MK5P and sent it to the soviets. In the following ballistic tests, the chieftains armor can’t reliably defeat 125mm APFSDS shells in 2000m. The Russians concluded that the level of protection, minus the wet storage bin, is pretty much the same with the lighter M60A1 tank, which was also tested alongside the chieftain after being captured from Israel in 1970s. The round shapes didn’t help that much and some places were determined as weak points. However, the chieftain is the last and more throughly designed conventional armored tank ever, it’s just it was born in a era where such armor wasn’t needed.

With the power upgrades of various marks, the problem ended up moving to the gearbox/brakes.

"in the hands of a well trained driver" is the problem. Equipment has to work well for the novice driver in a major war.

This is the exact problem: "in the hands of a well trained driver ..." In a major war, you need equipment that is close to soldier-proof as possible. Expect novice drivers only and design around them.

Yeah, old good UK. A nation that has gone from being the pioneer of armored vehicles to being an outsider in the world's armored forces. Amusing

The best tank in the World, as long as it broke down in a good fire position, the 120mm is still the best tank Gun ever with 2 piece ammunition!
