Been running a non-Crosstar model for two years now and it's simple fantastic. Daily drive is a 100 mile round trip commute mostly on motorways and it's quiet, comfortable and all the assist systems actually work as advertised. All the normal touchpoints feel high end, it's got ridiculously good visibility and then there's the fuel economy. Routinely get over 500 miles between fill-ups and around 70mpg and that's driving normally. Out of curiosity I tried a more, umm, efficient driving style and got a real world 80mpg at the pump which is just crazy. All that and it's properly nippy off the line too thanks to the electric motor, certainly quick enough to embarrass the lower end offerings from premium German manufacturers. That 9.6 0-60 figure is definitely on the pessimistic side from Honda!
Oh and if you do get one of these, or go on a test drive, be aware the Eco button genuinely changes how it drives to the point I've actually left it in Eco most of the time. Makes the car noticeably more laid back which really helps build up speed smoothly and tends to tame the engine revving up under normal driving conditions.

@@marvin2678 you’d be surprised. I’ve had a few models over the years and the hybrid powertrain genuinely transforms the car (well, that and decent suspension). Off the line it’s basically a pure electric car so you get all 250Nm from a standing start. Honda are definitely being, uh, cautious with a quoted 0-60 of 9.6, take a second off that if launching with no mechanical sympathy. Regularly outpaces the lesser engine versions of German luxury brands when they’re trying something dumb on a multi-lane junction. Motorway speeds are absolutely fine though these days at my normal commute times there’s not really much point in pressing on anyway, just get to the next jam quicker. Brakes are solid too though that’s one bit where a wee bit more tyre on the road wouldn’t go amiss. After two and a half years I’ve yet to have any back or leg pain after getting out, even after two and a bit hours crawling round the m25. It’s not a hot hatch but then again it’s not trying to be and what it does it does very well indeed. My only real criticisms are the low speed ride being a bit more harsh than I’d like and big bumps / potholes coming into the cabin more than is ideal.

@@marvin2678 But the new jazz has the same driveline as the civic, it's not a sports car, but I think it's quick enough for everyday driving and I have seen many reports of fantastic fuel consumption, and to top it off, it is said to be almost 100 % reliable, I think I will buy one as my next car.

My wife's had a crosstar for nearly two years now, she gets 65 mpg in urban driving because she keeps it on electric as much as she can. It's a great little car. (yes, she's a granny).

In a world of stress and urgency a car that leans into its relaxed side ain't all that bad. That such a characteristic is deemed 'old people behaviour' by society really devalues the design principles that even the most premium of car manufacturers tried to engineer: comfort and a relaxed ride!

Been driving a Jazz for 7yrs now, wish i had gotten one sooner. Incredibly reliable only brakes and tyres changed to date and doing around 25kmiles a year now. Its a breeze up the motorway when the v-tec kicks in albeit a little tiring on long journeys with its stiff suspension but great on short trip down the twisty’s.
Picked this up in 2016 2nd hand for a bargain and was only 9months old at the time, top trim it doesn’t age. People still shocked when i tell them how old it is and the kit, you May struggle to find a car today with all the safety features in one place.
We are now looking to replace the wifes car with this new hybrid model.
Be happy to get a little more performance from the car its certainly needed but like said jn the review if you poodle along its plenty and very economical.

Sadly for Australian's, Honda withdrew the Jazz about 3 years ago so this is the first time I've seen the newer version. I would buy this car in a heartbeat if it was still on offer here. You can't beat the Jazz for storage practicality, fuel consumption and good old Honda reliability. I think Honda were crazy for removing it from our shores! Lovely review - thanks!

It sucks that we can't get this here in the United States. Honda, essentially forcing me into a Civic if I want to stay within the Honda family, even though I don't want something that large (yes, the Civic has turned into more of a mid-sized vehicle than a compact at this point).
I decided to buy a 2020 Honda Fit LX (the previous generation Jazz) and have been wonderfully satisfied with it. I would've purchased this version though if it were sold in the US, and it does seem just a bit more refined and quieter. Have already hauled some items in my Fit that I could never imagine carrying in my Kia Rio sedan that I traded in. Love it!

If only someone would fit the Jazz series hybrid drivetrain into a Fiesta chassis and sell it at Ford prices.
At urban speeds the wheels are driven exclusively by an electric motor built into the gearbox which takes its power either from the small hybrid battery or a generator driven by the engine (and also built into the gearbox on a concentric shaft with the motor). Above about 50mph a clutch locks the engine to the output shaft so the engine does all the work directly. The gearbox does indeed contain gears, but they are all fixed ratio to keep all the components rotating at optimal speed (the motor runs faster than the engine, and the generator runs about twice as fast as the motor).
Power delivery is supremely smooth if you can get used to the disconnect between engine speed / pitch and road speed. It's way better than a PowerShift or DSG auto box.
On the plus side there are no gear changes, and no CVT belt / pulleys to wear out. On the negative side there are power electronics to go wrong and a lithium-ion battery under the boot floor where the spare wheel used to be (just waiting to be damaged / burst into flames in a rear-end shunt). And £25,900 is heinously expensive for the base model of a small car no matter how clever it is.

No spare wheel, no deal. Why didn't the presented reveal the deletion of a spare wheel, jack and tools. To make the boot/trunk larger, delete the spare wheel. Dumb design on EVs. What is the range of this "half distance cruiser?" Facts and figures are too objective, focus on the styling. I vastly prefer the older model's clean and simple lines.

Not interested in the Jazz at all. Only watched because of Rebecca.

Possibly the ugliest new car on sale today. Who signed this design off? Should be ashamed.

You just get into it start it up and drive it gets you there at a good speed with a great Fuel economy, it never goes wrong, its comfortable, its sat nav is a lot better than that in the Mercedes and The Mazda I had. If you want a penis extension go buy one. If you want a good Hybrid buy a jazz

I will not buy any new car that does not offer at least a Space saver spare wheel/tyre.
