The funny thing is: all MR-63 and MR-73 are in fact Jeumont trains... The French company Jeumont made the motor controls for both types of trains. What we refer to as the "Jeumont train" as seen in this video is the prototype test train that was made by modifying a MR-63 to test the chopper circuit motor controls that would be eventually be used on the MR-73 (bodies built by Bombardier) This test train is sometimes referred to as being MR-71. A test train was also made for testing a Hitachi system, and ended up getting converted back to a regular MR-63 after Jeumont was selected. The final configuration ended up slightly different, where you only hear the 3 note sequence that's so familiar to Montreal Metro users (and the same notes are also used as the door chime, as a "signature"). Jeumont also made the yellow track circuit signal isolation boxes that you can see between the rails. Some of them have "JS" on the lid, for "Jeumont Schneider". About the "one of two three car sets": There was originally a full 9 car set (full length train) made with this chopper system. Montreal trains, except for the newer Azur trains, are made up of three "elements" consisting of two traction end units and an unpowered car in the middle. The Jeumont train driving cabs had unique controls and could not be used with the automation that was later introduced on the metro lines. It ended up in storage at the back of the Beaugrand garage. Then the techies came up with a way to put a Jeumont element in the middle, between two regular MR-63 elements, which could be operated the regular, automated way. Only two of the three Jeumont elements ended up getting reused that way, hence the existence of two three car sets in the middle of MR-63 trains.
What I like about the Montreal metro is that not a single bit of platform space is wasted. Cars span the whole length, so people can get on at any point on the platform without waking, saving boarding time
Those MR-63 jeumont motors sound really beautiful... I wish I was in Montreal to see them. But I went to Montreal in 2019, and those jeumont trains were retired in like 2017 or something...
Putain... You are right! Sadly, the Jeumont 41 was the first ever MR-63 scrapped for the Azur arrival, followed by 42.

What I like about the Montreal metro is that not a single bit of platform space is wasted. Cars span the whole length, so people can get on at any point on the platform without waking, saving boarding time
except if your getting off at Villa-Maria, Plamondon, Guy-Concordia and Jarry stations. If you get off at those you need to walk a bit to the exit
The blue line use shorter trains, which do not cover the entire platform
Maybe this has changed now, idk

Even better is that the door chimes sound like those motors!
The door chimes of the 73s is actually the sound they produce when they're leaving a station!
mr 73 3 tone version of the mr 63 5 tone
FYI the 73s actually have the full 5 tone on slow acceleration
