  • Unmanic is a simple tool for optimizing your file library. You can use it to convert your files into a single, uniform format, manage file movements based on timestamps, or execute custom commands against a file based on size.
    Configure Unmanic, point it to your library and let it automatically manage that library for you.
    We'll show the app, why it's better than Tdarr, and how simple it can be to get the best out of your library.

    if Tdarr is as user friendly as this... it would be my go to. but for now... ill be using unmatic.

    I prefer unmanic over Tdarr as it is easier to use for me as you said in the intro. In terms of quality of the output files I did not make a comparison.
    Word of warning though. If you are a sucker for picture quality then compressing an already compressed file is going to yield you worse picture quality. So if you aren't sure if this is for you test with 1 or 2 files first and see if the output is meeting your expectations.
    I am using it to save space on my server and it does an amazing job at reducing media file size storage.

    Fantastic video mate. I was wondering if there was a way to automatically rename a file after Unmanic converts it. My Radarr/Sonarr are setup to put the encode type in the file name, but it keeps x264. I saw that Unmanic has a plugin to run post operation scripts, but couldn't find any already made scripts for renaming files. Possibly a solution could be for Radarr to rescan and rename the files? But I'm not sure if how to get Radarr to trigger that, if it can at all

      I believe so, I think there's a plugin just for that

    I have used Tdarr for years and become used to it. It is very custom but more for a developer. I will check this out and if it can replace Tdarr.

      I checked out Unmanic, excellent work from the developers and I can see its appeal. Having used Tdarr for some time and trying this briefly, for me I prefer Tdarr.
      Unmanic is user friendly and with that its not customiseable enough, you also have to use many plugins which wastes SSD cycles.
      Tdarr I can code a single plugin to do 5 plugins worth and this results in the video processed only once instead of running through the pipe over and over per plugin.

    Thanks for this video, it has convinced me to move away from TDARR. Do you have more information on how to set the capabilities of a worker? My main Unmanic container is configured for NVENC and i've set up a second container for Intel QSV. I'm trying to get both my GPU and iGPU to work on a library simultaneously to speed up the process. Do i have to install plugins in both containers or just the main "sender" container? I can barely find any info on this.

    Great video, got it all up and running but added a new “library” called mover, so mover can move finished processed content to Plex library for the end consumer. Issue I’m getting is mover will not operate. 112 processed items, and mover wont move them down the chain. It’s enabled, “mover” folder is selected. And its to duplicate the folder structure then delete the original etc.

    Can this automatically converts any video file (avi, flv, etc) to mp4?

  • @resolutepixel

    I've used unmanic before. I don't know if it's something I did or not but my videos converted to hevc we're taking up more space than the h.264 ones. At least the overall folder size was larger when the conversion was done it also wouldn't convert videos with embedded subtitles I'm now using Tdarr. And have the onboard graphics card for my server plus the onboard graphics card and an Nvidia card in my PC converting 20 files at a time and I'm saving space faster than unmanic could do it

  • @Untapped0293

    I trialled it over the weekend and didn't go to plan. (not sure it's related but odd coincidence)
    My plex library suddenly was no longer accessible.. By plex. But proven to be accessible via VLC on a separate windows machine. (plex on unraid, along with unmanic, "arrs etc)
    Maybe it was plex upgrade that occurred overnight but first time it's done it. So currently jury is out.

      nevermind figured it out. Some of the settings have changed quite a bit. You now need to go into the library and add the plugin for it there.

    Works better than Tadarr. way less resource heavy. But. It makes me nervous that I cant see what it does. example. x265 conversion. What else is going on, is it stripping anything, or just pure converting.

    Great video! Is a GPU required for this process? I don't have one on my server. ** Edit: I have dual Xeon L5640 CPUs. With 2 workers my usage was pinned at 100%. 1 worker was roughly 50-60%. To encode a video file roughly 2 hours long it was estimated at almost 3 hours work time. I estimate my library will take over 450 days at that rate. I think i need a GPU to make this worth while.

    • @GodTM
      @GodTM 2 года назад +2

      I imagine a GPU isn’t required (they had a 265 cpu option in the video examples)… it would just take longer using a CPU. I’d be curious if there’s a quality difference between the gpu and cpu versions of the plugins however?

    • @mattitude1245
      @mattitude1245 Год назад

      In my experience so far while CPU takes longer it encodes a lot better. Files size drops to 25-30% of the original. I’ve tried GPU encoding and my files while converted quicker were either the same size or larger.

      May be late, but this happens when Plex empties the trash of the library during a library scan when it realizes the old file is gone but still has not found the new file. So basically Plex thinks the movie was removed for a brief moment then it gets re-added.
      My solution was to just disable emptying trash on library scan and just periodically empty the trash myself.

    My biggest issue with all these conversion tools whether it's Unmanic or Tdarr, is that I can't just select my TV library, then choose individually what shows I want it to scan. It's all or nothing, but I don't want that. If you could select a specific library, then check a box of what shows or movies you want scanned/converted, this is the dream for me.

    • @martijnjanszen5521

      I have a 5700g and it does work with the integrated graphics. Just put "--device=/dev/dri" under "Extra Parameters" in "Advanced View" the same as for Intel, have the "Radeon top" plugin installed (With version 6.10 or higher this probably won’t be necessary as drivers should be integrated though I did not test this) , in Unmanic select the: "Video Encoder H265/HEVC - hevc_vaapi (INTEL/AMD)" plugin and your good to go.
