Oh I looove this. I painted with alcohol ink awhile back. Too many fumes from the alcohol and I had to stop. I used Brusho today on my photo paper. Wow, I had so much fun I could barely stop. I just used water and got some amazing effects. You bring such good ideas and joy to back. Abstract flowers !!! 🌸 bravo
Thank you! So pleased you found this inspiring! I loved alcohol inks, but they gave me a headache. Which is such a shame... But I was impressed with the Brusho and just dropping in water creates amazing effects!
Another awesome video. I have plenty of Yupo paper left over from my alcohol ink adventure, and just two weeks ago, I got my first batch of Brusho. I can't wait to try out your always terrific techniques.
Very intreguing and inspirational Karen, enjoyed this video as always which you've planned out what your talents will give a brilliant painting. Thanks greatly appreciated stay safe and healthy
This is a super cool demo, Karen. I'm going to do this tomorrow with a group of people, we're playing with new art materials. Thank you so much for doing all the legwork for this demo, and getting your fingers all painted!
Hi Karen! What a great idea! It looks wonderfull! Thank you very much for all this inspiration you share with us! I am so thankfull! It really keeps me going, If I stopped painting and don't know what to do next. 🙋🏻😘
Hi Karen I have only subscribed to your channel for only about a week and a half and my head is about to explode with all the great tips about painting! I see trying this painting with watercolor and salt!!! Thank you so much for your kindness and help! You are the best teacher for beginners I have seen! Will you ever be doing any live streaming, or a payed zoom class????
Hi Marvin, thanks so much! Really pleased you are finding the tutorials helpful! Good luck with the watercolour and salt. I have no plans at present to do live streaming because of my schedule. However I would love to do something like that in the future. Watch this space 😊
Thank you Anne. To seal your Yupo watercolour painting use a high quality acrylic non-yellowing varnish on YUPO, such as Lascaux Fixativ or Krylon Crystal Clear.
Hi Karen l've just brought some Brusho l just wanted to know what you used to pierce the holes into the lid and how many holes did you do f l don't put the holes into the lid l can see big accidents happening lol l absolutely love your art and channel and G'Day from Australia 💞💞💞
G'day Kerry (in Australia!), I hope you enjoy playing with the Brusho! So pleased you like my art! Yay! I usually use push pins to punch holes into the top... start with one and just test to see how much comes out. Because of the design of the push pin, they are great as a top to stop the Brusho from escaping afterwards. Hope this was helpful, have fun 😊
Hi, I like to look at your watercolors and at the same time I wonder if I could also paint a picture ?! What format should I start with? You know it very well. Thank you!💖👍

I love this! I’m going to break down and order some. Thank you for your videos. Love your work. Did you leave this as it was or can you seal it, somehow?
Great question Fergie. You can wipe watercolour off as well with a sponge. The best way to protect the painting is to make sure it does not get wet and to frame it behind perspex or glass and not to hang your painting in direct sunlight... hope this was helpful :)
Hi Lana... thank you for your question: I would frame the Yupo painting behind glass and not hang the framed picture in direct sunlight. Hope this was helpful 😊
Absolutely love this technique but have one question. I had trouble getting a nice round white shape for my flowers. Could it be my bleach ratio was not not strong enough or maybe too much paint on paper before dropping alcohol?? They were more like an irregular oval. Tks,
Glad you enjoyed this tutorial. I would suggest you practice with different ratios and see if there’s a difference. It is a bit of trial & error. Hope this helps 😊
Can you do this with watercolour rather than brusho? How does bleach work with watercolour (or is alcohol better?) I have some yupo paper and would like to try this with my watercolours, as I dont have any brusho...Thanks
Ooh that’s very interesting. Never used yupo paper before but always wanted a go. One question, will the paint stay out when it’s dry do you need to seal it with anything? Thanks xx
Thank you for your question Sue: I would keep your painting away from moisture and frame the Yupo painting behind glass and not hang it in direct sunlight. Hope this was helpful 😊
Thank you so much Mimi... The best way to protect the painting is to make sure it does not get wet and to frame it behind perspex or glass with frame. Don't hang your painting in direct sunlight your painting may fade over time... hope this was helpful :)
I don’t have brusho so intend to try and paint this using a combination of watercolour paint and pencils which I’ll scrape over wet paper using an emery board nail file , which Karen suggested in a previous tutorial. No idea how it’ll turn out but it’ll be fun to try out 😊
Hello! I do have a question. Do you seal the painting after it’s dry? Yupo is synthetic I’m curious if the paint could be scratched off since it sits on top and isn’t absorbed. Thanks!
Stunning! Can’t wait to try this! One question, if I may? Did you take off the greenish brusho at the top right and replace it with brown Brusho (on re wetted Wupo)? That upper right background is so beautiful!
What an amazing background - beautiful effects with the swirling colours - definitely need to try this 😁👏
Thanks so much Chris! I think you will love it! 😊
Brusho is like magic .... It's utterly amazing. I could watch it all day
Me too! Thank you for watching!
Great your painting
Thank you so much 😀

Thank you Alison :)
This is a beautiful painting. Thank you.
It's always a joy to watch you create💖👏
I love 💕 your work so good.
Thank you!
Absolutely stunning! I haven't used Brusho for a long time and never tried it on Yupo.

Merci pour cette technique. Je vais l'essayer et m'amuser! Québec,Canada
My pleasure. Happy painting 🎨
Never saw this technique with brusho and this paper before.
Looks like a perfect idea.
Thanks for sharing. Even I've got only 3 brushos yet.
It's great fun Petra 😊
Would never have thought of using Yupo with Brushos. Not sure I’d have the patience to let it dry though. Absolutely beautiful piece as always 😊
Thank you so much!
Such exquisite painting. Can this be preserved? Can we get similar results on watercolour paper?
Thank you for your wonderful tutorial!
You could frame this behind glass. You can’t get quite enough he same effect in watercolour. It’s because the watercolour paper is more absorbent.
Will be trying this 😅
Have fun!
Whooo hoo another Brusho tutorial 😍😍😍
YEAH! Art therapy at its best! Thanks Maggi 😊
@@KarenRiceArt use try this paper too!👍
Ekkkk, I love this !!!
Me too Julie! I could paint these for hours!
Beautiful 👍🏻
Thank you 😊
Love this Karen ☺️ I have the brusho and the yupo paper, just need the courage to have a go now ☺️
Thank you Lesley! Just tell yourself you are going to have fun and experiment! :)
@@KarenRiceArt I will ☺️
Thought it looked fab even before the dandelions were added, great textures, must have a go. 🙂
Thank you Kim! You will love it! So much fun!
sincere congratulations, wow, what do you then use as varnish to preserve the work please?
I usually frame my work behind uv glass.
Toll!!!!!! Sehr schön!!!👍👍👍👍

Thanks, will try this! I have plenty of yupo from my brief obsession with alcohol inks. 😁
Have fun Kris 😊
What an interesting idea! Is this paper the same for encaustic painting? It is similar... Thanks
It is Yupo paper: recyclable, waterproof, tree-free Synthetic Paper.
Thank you for your sharing 😊How to clean hands after? I tried brusho and got hands so pigmented that it was useless even water and soap...
Thank you Pat, so pleased you found this useful, especially cleaning your hands :)
thank you Karen great demo im wondering do you know how archival the end result it mainly without the bleach thanks
Thanks Trish, I am not sure of the answer to this. But I would frame the Brusho behind the glass to protect it :)
What a beautiful technique Karen! But if one does not have Brusho, what can one use instead?
Thank you! You could use watercolour by itself :)
@@KarenRiceArt thank you.
I love this! I’m going to break down and order some. Thank you for your videos. Love your work. Did you leave this as it was or can you seal it, somehow?
I did leave it, but you can frame behind glass 😊
Loved this. Have you tried taking a print while the paper is still so wet?
Thanks Rosie... I have not tried a print? Do you mean placing another piece of Brusho over the top and pressing down on the painting?
@@KarenRiceArt No I meaant placing paper on top of the wet painted Yupo
Beautiful! If you can just wipe it off, how do you preserve it?
Great question Fergie. You can wipe watercolour off as well with a sponge. The best way to protect the painting is to make sure it does not get wet and to frame it behind perspex or glass and not to hang your painting in direct sunlight... hope this was helpful :)
WOW!

I just started playing with yupo paper, such a strange surface. please advise how would you preserve the painting on yupo? fixative? thank u

Thank you for your question Sue.... just to say the watered down bleach works really well with watercolour. Have fun 😊
@@KarenRiceArt Great thank you.

There painting is lovely! How do you protect the painting once done? Do you use some kind of fixative?
Thank you so much Mimi... The best way to protect the painting is to make sure it does not get wet and to frame it behind perspex or glass with frame. Don't hang your painting in direct sunlight your painting may fade over time... hope this was helpful :)
Thank you, same as any watercolor, easy enough.
Thank you, same as any watercolor, easy enough.
I love this effect, would it be possible to achieve this with water colour pencils instead of Brusho, I’m very much a beginner 🙂
I don’t have brusho so intend to try and paint this using a combination of watercolour paint and pencils which I’ll scrape over wet paper using an emery board nail file , which Karen suggested in a previous tutorial. No idea how it’ll turn out but it’ll be fun to try out 😊
Yes you can! You can use so many different mediums with Yupo paper 😊
Have fun Pia
can the bleach mix be used on regular cotton or wood pulp watercolor paper?
Hi Kathy, yes you can, but it does seem to make the colours dull when the painting is dry. So I prefer using it on the Yupo paper :)
@@KarenRiceArt thank you!
Karen, do you seal your watercolors done on Yupo or just frame them with no sealer?
Hi Mary, thank you for your question, you can seal your Yupo paintings, but I prefer to frame them... hope this was helpful :)
Hello! I do have a question. Do you seal the painting after it’s dry? Yupo is synthetic I’m curious if the paint could be scratched off since it sits on top and isn’t absorbed. Thanks!

How long does it take for the brusho and gauche to dry
Quite a while, maybe 6 hours. Depends how warm your room is 😊
Stunning! Can’t wait to try this! One question, if I may? Did you take off the greenish brusho at the top right and replace it with brown Brusho (on re wetted Wupo)? That upper right background is so beautiful!
Thank you Sue, I think the Brusho dries very light, but it could have disappeared with all the spritzing! So pleased you like the upper background 😊
@@KarenRiceArt thanks 🙏
Love this can’t wait to try. What did you use to make holes in brusho container?
Thank you! I used a push pin and then used the same push pin to seal the container... win win :)
@@KarenRiceArt fabulous idea, thanks!
